Abstract

Film the White Tiger yang disutradarai oleh Ramin Bahrani diadaptasi dari novel karya Aravind Adiga dengan penekanan yang kuat pada unsur naratif dan visual untuk menciptakan pengalaman sinematik film yang menarik. Film ini mengikuti perjalanan dari karakter Balram Halwai, seorang pemuda yang lahir dari keluarga miskin yang berhasil menjadi pengusaha kaya melalui cara-cara yang kontroversial. Film ini secara keseluruhan menggambarkan tentang kesenjangan sosial dan ekonomi di India, yang menekankan tentang dampaknya terhadap kuputusan dan moralitas individu. Analisis psikologis pada film ini bertujuan untuk memahami tentang perubahan karakter Balram secara lebih mendalam. Faktor eksternal yang meliputi lingkungan sosial, ekonomi, dan budaya menjadi aspek yang penting dalam perkembangan moral Balram, melalui pemahaman teori-teori psikologi seperti teori perkembangan moral Lawrence Kohlberg dan teori lingkungan sosial Urie Bronfenbrenner juga teori kognitif sosial Leon Festinger. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif, dengan analisis teks serta visual. Data primer diambil dari film, sedangkan data sekunder diambil dari literatur terkait perubahan psikologis karakter. Analisis secara mendalam terhadap perjalanan psikologis yang dilewati Balram Halwai mengungkap wawasan penting mengenai pesan sosial dan dinamika karakter film tersebut, yang memiliki dampak lebih luas terhadap realitas sosial dan ekonomi di India. Abstract

This research aims to analyse denial as defense mechanism in main character of The Great Gatsby (2013) movie, Jay Gatsby. This research discovered denials as defense mechanism in psychoanalytic in the main character, which based on Sigmund Freud's theory. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive method based on the movie’s dialogue and character’s behaviour. The Great Gatsby (2013) movie was the primary data source in this research. This research identifies 3 types of denial as defense mechanism in Jay Gatsby's character. Jay Gatsby shows that his denials were caused of his own ego, that he can’t accept reality he was born in a poor family and his unhealthy obsession towards Daisy Buchanan which their relationship has ended long time ago and now Daisy is already Tom Buchanan’s wife. Abstract

A research entitled Conversation Implicature in Spongebob Squarepants: Your Shoe’s Untied Animation aim to find the type, function of implicature, and context that found in this animation and explain or describe the type, function of implicature and context. The source taken from the transcript of SpongeBob Squarepants: Your Shoe’s Untied. The writer uses Yule and Searle theory which Yule is to identify types of implicature found in the animation and Searle to find the function of implicature found in the animation. This analysis uses qualitative descriptive method. Results found in this analysis are that there are 2 data using general implicature, 2 data using particularized implicature, and 1 data using scale implicature. Abstract

This research is titled “Representation of Social Conflict in the Film Django Unchained”. This research purposes are to identify and describe social conflicts that occur in the film Django Unchained using the perspective of Karl Marx’s conlict theory. Marx stated that in every society there must be a dominant party and dominated pary, both parties have different views and goals about the system which exist in their social environment. Due to the differences of views and goals, it is possible for social conflict occur in between these parties. This research use data from dialogue and screen capture from the movie, that represent a social conflict. The result of this research is, the conflict occurs because of an unfair society system between the dominant party or the bourgeoisie and the dominated party or the proletary, where this system is more inclined and give more benefits to the bourgeoisie. Resulting the conflicts between white and black races, conflicts between the government and society, conflicts between foremen and slave, conflict between masters and fighter slave, also conflict between masters and servant slave. Abstract

This study aims to examine the discourse structure of U.S. President Donald Trump’s speech on June 21, 2025, using a structural discourse analysis approach. The approach investigates the text through three main levels: macrostructure, microstructure, and superstructure along with interpretative analysis focusing on tone, emotion, and persuasive strategies. The data were obtained from the official transcript of Trump’s “Address to the American People” published by the Miller Center. The study applies a descriptive qualitative method grounded in van Dijk’s, Halliday and Hasan’s, and Barthes’ frameworks. Findings reveal that the speech demonstrates coherence between global meaning (macrostructure) and its linguistic and organizational structures. Interpretatively, the speech exhibits a persuasive tone, patriotic emotion, and rhetorical strategies that combine ethos, pathos, and logos to construct political and moral legitimacy. This study affirms that structural discourse analysis can effectively uncover meaning dynamics and power relations in modern political communication.
