Abstract

This research is analyzing errors made by the students in answering the past tense form of English direct and indirect speech. The aim of this research is to find out how many errors made by the students in answering the questions of English direct and indirect speech in the past tense form.The population is the first year students of the faculty of Economy majoring Accounting,Gunadarma University, namely lEB 11 and 1EB13. The number of population is 88 students which is 43 students from 1EB11 and 45 students from 1EB13.50 students are choosen as the sample. The data analysis will show the result of the occurence of errors made by the sample by giving the numbers of students who made errors, then giving the explanation of the correct answer, and interpreting the data. The result shows that most students still found difficulties in answering the questions. Errors happened more in changing the sentence from the direct speech to indirect speech in the form of simple past than in the form of past perfect tense.

Abstract

Glosari penerjemahan berisikan istilah atau hal yang berkaitan dengan ilmu penerjemahan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mencori strategipembentukan istilah asing dalam glosarium penerjemahan bahasa dan mencari strategi yang paling banyak digunakan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif. Setelah dilakukan analisis, diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa ada beberapa strategi yang dapat diterapkan dalam pembentukan istilah asing glosarium terminologi penerjemahan tersebut seperti, penerjemahan langsung, penyerapan, penggabungan antara penyerapan dan penerjemahan, dan penerjemahan dengan memberikan deskripsi mengenai teks. Strategi penyerapan dalam pembentukan istilah asing glosarium terminologi penerjemahan merupakan strategi yang paling banyak digunakan.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mencari tipe-tipe dari campur kode (code mixing) yang digunakan dalam ujaran Dodit dalam stand up comedy dan untuk menemukan alasan penggunaan campur kode (code mixing) dalam ujaran yang dilakukan oleh Dodit dalam stand up comedy. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif karena data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berupa kata, frasa, dan klausa bukan angka-angka. Sedangkan metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode simak dan catat. Setelah mengelompokan data ke dalam bentuk kata, frasa, dan klausa yang mengandung campur kode dalam ujaran yang dilakukan oleh Dodit dalam stand up comedy, peneliti menemukan 38 data untuk campur kode yang terbagi menjadi 23 kata (words insertion), 4 frasa (phrases insertion), 1 klausa (clause insertion), 8 hibrid (hybrid insertion), 2 pengulangan kata (repetition insertion), dan 1 idiom (idiom insertion). Sedangkan alasan yang sering muncul dalam penggunaan campur kode yang dilakukan oleh Dodit adalah ketidaksengajaan, penyesuaian diri, tujuan tertentu dan terakhir adalah penyampaian pemikiran.

Abstract

Schizophrenia is chronic psychiatric disorder when the sufferers experienced hallucinations, delusions, confusion in thinking, and attitude change. People with Schizophrenia generally experienced symptoms of psychosis, namely the difficulty of distinguishing between realities with the mind that is on itself. The aims of this research were to find out the Schizophrenia symptoms that were suffered by Adam Petrazelli, as the main character in Words on Bathroom Walls film by using Nevid Jeffery’s theory and to find out the type of Schizophrenia that was suffered by Adam Petrazelli based on Halonen and Santrock’s theory. This research used qualitative method. The writers found that there were 5 symptoms of Schizophrenia that were suffered by Adam Petrazelli, there were four hallucination, eight delusion, one thought and speech disorder, one disturbance of emotional, and one inability to sustain attention. While the type of Schizophrenia that was suffered by Adam was Paranoid Schizophrenia.

Abstract

Politeness is a basic human behavior to build a harmonious relationship. This research discussed the maxims of the politeness principle that were found in a movie named ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass. The aims of this research were to find out that the maxims of the politeness principle that were used by the characters in ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’ movie based on Leech’s theory. The method for this research was the qualitative method. This research used the movie script as the source of data. The result of this research showed that there are six maxims of politeness principles that were found in the movie, they are Tact Maxim with 6 data, Generosity Maxim with 7 data, Approbation Maxim with 5 data, Modesty Maxim with 5 data, Agreement Maxim with 5 data and Sympathy Maxim with 5 data. Generosity Maxim is the most dominant maxim that was used by the characters. Furthermore, this research can be concluded that the characters tend to be generous to show their politeness to one another.

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to find liberal feminist values and to discover Maleficent's personality traits in the film Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. This research employed Tong's liberal feminist theory to find liberal feminist values and used McCrae & Costa's theory to discover Maleficent's personality traits. The data were analyzed using a qualitative method. The data were taken from the film Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. This research discovered that Maleficent, as the main character, demonstrated that women deserved to be acknowledged as rational women and deserve to get the same civic liberties, formal education, economic possibilities, and other privileges as men. The result of this research showed that from the big five personalities, Maleficent has four personalities, namely agreeableness, neuroticism openness to experience, and the last is extraversion.

Abstract

This research purposed to find out the types of taboo words and to describe the functions of the taboo words used in the Bad Boys For Life movie by Adil and Bilall. This Research used two theories, the theory from Battistella (2005) for analyzing the types of taboo words and the theory from Jay’ (1992) for analyzing the function of taboo words. The qualitative analysis method was used in thi s research. The result of the research showed that there were 4 types of taboo words that had been found. There were 193 data found in Bad Boys For Life movie namely: 10 data of Epithets, 21 Data of Profanity, 30 data of Vulgarity, and 132 data of Obscenity. For the function of taboo words, there were also 193 data were found, namely: 82 data of Anger and/or Frustration, 53 data of Descriptive – Evaluative, 5 data of Joking, 19 data of Surprise, and 34 data of Sarcastic Irony or Insults.

Abstract

Bullying is a type of aggression that involves an imbalance of power where the bully consciously and deliberately hurt another person physically or psychologically by hurting their body, feelings, self-esteem, reputation, and property. This research aimed to find out the types of bullying that happened in Speak movie and the impacts that the character Melinda Sordino suffered in Speak movie. This research used Sheri Bauman’s theory in analyzing the types of bullying and used SEJIWA’s theory to analyze the impacts of bullying in Speak’s movie. The source of data was the Speak movie by Jessica Sharzer. In analyzing the data, the qualitative method was used. The data of this research were the scenes and dialogues in the movie that contained the types of bullying and the impacts of bullying. The results of this research showed that there were 9 data found based on the types of bullying, namely 3 data of physical bullying, 3 data of verbal bullying, and 3 data of indirect bullying. However, for the impacts of bullying, there were 12 data found, namely 2 data on academic impacts, 4 data on psychological impact, 3 data on physical impact, and 3 data on social impact.

Abstract

In the context of contemporary media consumption facilitated by advanced technologies, subtitling serves as a crucial tool for overcoming language barriers in movie viewing. This research delves into the analysis of interrogative sentences and their corresponding subtitling strategies in the Luca movie, an American animated fantasy film. Utilizing Frank's theory for interrogative sentence classification and Gottlieb's theory for subtitling strategies, the study explores communication nuances within the movie's dialogues. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, data was gathered from English-Indonesian subtitles, focusing on interrogative sentences and their subtitling approaches. The findings reveal prevalent types of interrogative sentences, notably Yes-No Questions, and highlight Paraphrase as the dominant subtitling strategy. This study underscores the significance of subtitling in enhancing audience comprehension and facilitating cross-cultural cinematic experiences.

Abstract

This research investigates the types and motives of code-mixing employed by Iqbaal Ramadhan in the YouTube videos "Iqbaal Ramadhan: '3x Ditolak Idola Cilik' - IN-FRAME w/ Ernest Prakasa" and "Iqbaal Ramadhan: 'Nggak Mau Kerja Demi Uang' - IN-FRAME w/ Ernest Prakasa". Utilizing qualitative methodology, the study applies Muysken's (2000) code-mixing theory to categorize the types of code-mixing and Hoffmann's (1991) theory to analyze the underlying motives behind Iqbaal Ramadhan's code-mixing instances. The analysis reveals the presence of all three types of code-mixing, including insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization, with a total of 101 instances identified. Furthermore, seven distinct motives for code-mixing are identified, namely talking about particular topics, expressing group identity, clarifying speech content for interlocutor comprehension, repetition for clarification, emphasis, interjections, and quoting external sources.
