Abstract

Hedging devices are often used to express opinion rather than a fact of a proposition. Hedging devices are also expressing speaker uncertainty. What will happen when hedging devices are translated into the target language? Based on that question writer try to find out on how hedging devices are translated into target language using modulation technique. By using modulation technique, translator tries to understand the meaning of the hedging devices with different point of view. This study used qualitative methods in analyzing the data. The source data of this study is a novel written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, entitled Sherlock Holmes and its translation. Hedging devices found in this study were 96 data. Those data were translated using modulation technique. 96 data were divided into four such as, adaptors 66 data, rounders 6 data, plausibility shields 17 data and attribution shields 7 data. By using modulation technique translator translate those hedging devices with different hedging devices in the target language, but the function of the hedging devices are similar with the hedging devices of the source language.

Abstract

Glosari penerjemahan berisikan istilah atau hal yang berkaitan dengan ilmu penerjemahan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mencori strategipembentukan istilah asing dalam glosarium penerjemahan bahasa dan mencari strategi yang paling banyak digunakan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif. Setelah dilakukan analisis, diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa ada beberapa strategi yang dapat diterapkan dalam pembentukan istilah asing glosarium terminologi penerjemahan tersebut seperti, penerjemahan langsung, penyerapan, penggabungan antara penyerapan dan penerjemahan, dan penerjemahan dengan memberikan deskripsi mengenai teks. Strategi penyerapan dalam pembentukan istilah asing glosarium terminologi penerjemahan merupakan strategi yang paling banyak digunakan.

Abstract

The writer took 'The equivalents of wish in Indonesian' as the problem of theresearch. The writer chose this topic because the writer was interested to find outthe equivalents of wish. The aim of this research was to find out the equivalentsof wish in Indonesian. In this research, the writer used qualitative method. Themethod covered collecting, arranging, classifying, analyzing, and interpreting thedata. All the data were taken from novels by Stephenie Meyer entitled 'New Moon','Eclipse' and 'Breaking dawn'. From the 100 data of wish, the writer classifiedthem into their translation. The result of the research showed that wish aretranslated into seandainya(saja), kalau(saja), harap, berharap, berharap kalausaja, ingin, semoga and zero translation. There are 43% of wish are translatedinto 'kalau(saja)', 31% are translated into 'berharap', 7% are translated into'berharap kalau saja', 6% are translated into 'seandainya(saja), 4% are translatedinto 'ingin', 4% are translated into 'harap', 1% is translated into 'semoga' and 4%are not translated or zero translation.

Abstract

PT. Galenium Pharmasia Laboratories is a private company engaged in the pharmaceutical sector in Indonesia. The Plastic Packaging Production Division is a relatively new pioneer by PT. Galenium Pharmasia Laboratories with the aim of fulfilling the need for plastic packaging used for packaging materials produced in the existing division in the company. Production management of caps and bottles that are produced is still manual, because in recording production reports, and records of material use do not use the system, it is feared that data management will take time in recording production results, data is also vulnerable to loss and damage so it is feared that information is not conveyed to the production manager . By using information systems based on computer technology, it is expected that material stocks and product stocks can be controlled properly, by making the input process of production data management that is connected to each other between users or employees with the aim of getting information quickly and getting quick responses also between users or employees. The research method uses the Waterfall method, system development uses the Unified Modeling Language, the UML diagram used in this system uses case diagrams, class diagrams, activity diagrams, sequence diagrams. This system is able to manage the production process more closely, from production planning to production completion

Abstract

Berita mengenai peristiwa aksi umat Islam di Indonesia yaitu aksi Reuni 212 pada tanggal 2 Desember tahun 2018 menjadi berita headline di berbagai media online. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pemberitaan media online yaitu antara viva.co.id dan republika.co.id yang berkaitan dengan Reuni 212 pada tanggal 2 Desember 2018. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan desain anaisis framing. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini diperoleh dari sumber pemberitaan media viva.co.id dan republika.co.id pada tanggal 29 November sampai 3 Desember 2018. Pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik penelusuran data online dianalisis menggunakan model pembingkaian Robert N. Entman dengan instrumen penelitian berupa observasi dan studi dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menggambarkan bahwa pemberitaan viva.co.id dan republika.co.id yang berkaitan dengan Reuni 212 pada tanggal 2 Desember tahun 2018 yaitu bersifat non politik berkaitan dengan silaturahim tetapi pada kenyataannya tidak bisa dilepaskan dari adanya nuansa dinamika politik yang sedang terjadi. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa berita Reuni 212 pada tanggal 2 Desember Tahun 2018 di media viva.co.id dan republika.co.id tidak bisa dilepaskan dari nuansa politik

Abstract

Banyak sekali bentuk-bentuk metafora yang sudah kita kenali dan pahami penggambarannya, namun tidak sedikit pula dari kita yang kurang begitu mengenal bentuk-bentuk  dan penggambaran dari metafora tersebut. Oleh karena itu dalam penulisan artikel ini penulis ingin memperlihatkan bagaimana bentuk-bentuk dan penggambaran dari metafora tersebut khususnya yang terdapat di dalam lirik lagu. Melalui penggambaran dari metafora itulah kita dapat menentukan konseptualisasi dari metafora tersebut. Dengan pemahaman metafora konseptual itulah yang akan mempermudah kita dalam membentuk suatu metafora baik itu dalam bentuk lisan maupun tulisan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah lirik lagu KLA Project. Konseptual metafora cinta yang terdapat dalam lirik lagu KLA Project adalah Love is a fluid in a container (Cinta bagaikan cairan dalam sebuah wadah), Love is a Journey (Cinta adalah suatu perjalanan), Love is a bond (Cinta adalah suatu ikatan), Love is a fire (Cinta itu api yang membara). Love is a natural force (Cinta adalah dorongan alami).

Abstract

This research aims to identify types of figurative language found in some of Greys Anatomy’s movie scripts and to identify the function of figurative language in some of Greys Anatomy’s movie scripts. The source of the data in this research is the dialogue in Greys Anatomy. To achieve the aims of this research; the researcher uses the qualitative research method. The researcher uses the theory of Kennedy & Perrine. The first result of this research is 100 data can be classified in Figurative Language, 7% Simile, 65% Metaphor, 7% Personification, 4% Hyperbole, 9% Understatement, 3% Metonymy, and 5% Paradox. The second result of this research is 92 data can be categorized as a function of figurative language. 14% Imaginative Pleasure, 13% Additional Imagery, 48% Emotional Intensity, and 25% Means of Concentration.

Abstract

This article aims to identify the types and functions of illocutionary acts in the main character’s utterances in “I Am Not Ashamed” movie. The theory used in this article is theory of illocutionary acts proposed by Searle (1976) who classified the types of illocutionary acts into five types, there are representatives, directives, commissives, expressives, and declaratives. The method in this article using a qualitative descriptive method.  The result of this study there are 4 types of illocutionary acts such as representatives, descriptives, commissives, expressives and 36 of functions of illocutionary acts there are describing, stating, inform, assert, claim, believe, conclude, tell, agree, guess, assure, remind, urging, forbiding, ask, requesting, begging, questioning, inviting, suggesting, warning, promising, planning, offering, threatening, surprise, thank, apology, annoyed, curious, greet, disappointment, worried, like, satisfied, and praise in the main character’s utterances in “I Am Not Ashamed” movie.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the types of taboo words, to identify the functions of taboo, and to observe the subtitling strategy in the translation of taboo words in Indonesian subtitles in Sex Education Season 2 TV Series. The source of data in this research is the dialogue that contained taboo words in the English subtitle and the Indonesian subtitle script in the Sex Education TV Series season 2. The researcher uses the descriptive qualitative method. The first result of this study show there were 201 data can be classified as types of taboo words where the highest type is sexual activity 70 data (35%), and the lowest type is lavatory 38 data (19%). The second result shows the 201 data can be categorized as a function of taboo words where the highest type is surprise 60 data (30%), and the lowest type is joking 15 data (8%). The most common use of sexual activity taboo words is to express anger and/or frustration. Furthermore, the lavatory is commonly used to express surprise as well as to identify the descriptive-evaluative function. Furthermore, the author discovered 5 of 10 subtitling strategies in this study, which included expansion, paraphrasing, transfer, condensation, and deletion. The transfer strategy is the most frequently used in translated taboo words, while expansion is the least frequently used.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the types of directives illocutionary acts by Searle and perlocutionary acts by Austin, that occurred in the novel The Girl who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh. The data for this research were obtained using a descriptive-qualitative method. The data of this study are taken from 291 utterances that featured directives illocutionary acts. The result of this research showed seven out of eleven types of directives illocutionary acts were found; asking (184), begging (11), commanding (8), demanding (29), ordering (36), requesting (8), and warning (15). Furthermore, the researcher also found that after receiving directives illocutionary acts from the speaker, there were successful and unsuccessful perlocutionary acts from the interlocutor.
