Abstract

The broadening of Mount Halimun Salak National Park (TNGHS) area is unseparable from the trade off between conservation interest and community’ economic interests. An alternative solution to overcome these problems is an action to conduct natural tourism activities in TNGHS. This action is also expected to encourage the participation of community in preserving national parks. The purpose of this study is to examine economic benefits of nature tourism for maintaining the function of conservation of national parks which at the same time can improve the community’ economy in TNGHS area. The methods used are income analysis which includes ratio of economic benefits from tourism activity to total income and covering of economic benefits from tourism to household expenditure and to conservation fund. The results showed that the economic benefits from natural tourism activity obtained by the community was 66% of the total income and it could also fulfil 91% of household expenditure. In addition, ecotourism activities also generate tourism revenue which is called as PNBP as much as 343% of conservation funds.

Abstract

Mangroves provide a wide range of ecosystem services. Therefore, the existence of mangrove ecosystem needs to be maintained ecologically, economically and socially. This study aimed to identify the mangrove ecosystem linkages with shrimp. Data used in this study were primary and secondary data to generalize a case study on shrimp and mangrove ecosystem linkages in Pabean Udik Village Indramayu regency. The economy analysis of the relationship between mangroves and shrimp used mathematical equations by Barbier and Ivar (1994). Mangrove ecosystem linkage with shrimp seen from the marginal productivity of mangrove area (MPM) was 153.454 tons per km2, while the marginal productivity of fishing effort (MPE) wais 0,305 tons per trip using the shrimp catching boat. The study showed that the decline in mangrove ecosystems area would affect the decline in shrimp production, and the increase in mangrove ecosystems area would affect the incrase in the number of shrimp production.

Abstract

Ciletuh in Sukabumi area was inaugurated as a Global Geopark by UNESCO in 2017, and has many potential natural resources such as Palangpang Beach as a leading tourism area of Ciletuh Geopark. Palangpang Beach in Ciletuh Bay is also an estuary area used by fishermen to collect fish in Fish Auction (TPI). Fishermen on Palangpang Beach are categorized as small fishermen according to the size of the capture fishery units, which results in the fishermen on Palangpang Beach prefer to take part in tourist activities by chartering boats for tourists to increase their income. The objectives of the study were to investigate the impact of Geopark establishment on fishermen’s livelihood and to establish ecotourism development strategies in supporting the sustainable livelihood. The method used for sustainable livelihood analysis was descriptive analysis. The results showed that increased sustainable livelihood assets of fishermen were found in human capital, social capital, physical capital, and economic and financial capital, while natural capital assets declined. The Geopark Ciletuh development strategy to improve the sustainable livelihood can be performed through the fishermen involvement in capture fishery and Geopark tourism management such as by becoming a tour guide, a fishing trainer, an educator who educates on fishing weather in fisheries, a mangrove planter, and a coral reef educator. Keywords: capital asset, geopark, descriptive analysis, ecotourism, fish auction

Abstract

The Paotere Fish Landing Bases (PPI) in Paotere Makassar city is a government-operated port. PPI Paotere plays a role as the center for production, processing, and marketing of fishery as well as fostering the fishermen groups. The high intensity of fishermen’s daily activities can lead to conflict in the use of fishery resources at PPI Paotere. The institutional performance of PPI Paotere is another case that still needs to be improved in developing fisheries management at PPI Paotere. Therefore, the objective of this study is to analyze the roles and interests of stakeholders in non-market institutions towards fisheries resource management at PPI Paotere. The collected data will be analyzed by stakeholder analysis. The results of this research show that the stakeholders involved in PPI Paotere consist of the Department of Marine and Fisheries South Sulawesi Province, the Department of Fisheries and Agriculture Makassar City, the Regional Technical and Auction Unit (UPTD) of PPI Paotere, the Fisheries Cooperative, Indonesian Fishermen Association (HNSI) Makassar City, District Government, Head of Fishermen Groups, and Lecturers.

Abstract

Aquaculture in Indonesia has several superior commodities, one of which is eel. Eel (Anguilla bicolor) is a fish with high economic value and a type of fish that is an export commodity (Japan, Hong Kong, Germany, Italy, and several other countries). This condition is inversely proportional to the level of domestic eel consumption which is still relatively low. Aquaculture activities provide direct and indirect impacts on the local society, one of them is the economic impact of the existence of giant mottled eel aquaculture in the Banyuwangi District. The research aimed to analyze the economic impact of giant mottled eel aquaculture activities. The Survey research method was used and data were analyzed using descriptive and multiplier effect analysis. The research result of the economic impacts of giant mottled eel aquaculture that provides a positive economic impact on local society is indicated by the development of giant mottled eel aquaculture activities and the other sectors. Keynesian Local Income Multiplier value was 2.65. Type I Multiplier Income Ratio was 1.16 and Type II Multiplier Income Ratio was 1.6.
