Abstract

This research was conducted aiming to an analysis of students’ ability in writing sequence of events based on “UP” movie by the third-year students at English Language Education Study Program of Universitas Islam Riau. This study was descriptive research and the method used in this research is the quantitative method with utilizing SPSS software to calculate the frequency, percentage, and mean score. The subject of this research were the students at the third year that consisted of 35 students and this research focused on five aspects of writing. In gathering the data, this research used Google form to collect the result writing test of the students. From the data analysis of 35 students who took the writing test, 4 students were in good to excellent level which the percentage is 11.4%. 27 students were in average to good level which the percentage is 77.1%. 4 students gain poor to average level with the percentage is 11.4% and no one of the students (0%) got poor level. Based on the researcher analysis from the result of the research, the highest score that most students could gain was in the vocabulary aspect with the mean score 3.68. Meanwhile, the lowest score that the students could gain was in fluency with the mean score 3.06. So, in this case, the researcher could interpret that the third-year students were on average to good level and able to write the sequence of events of the movie.

Abstract

Foreign language anxiety commonly appears in reading, it causes the brain to engaged with unpleasant feelings that it become difficult to seize new information. Thus, this research aimed to classify the levels of students’ reading anxiety and to find the significant difference in reading comprehension between students with higher level of reading anxiety and lower level of reading anxiety. A descriptive design was employed to conduct this research. The data were collected from the first-year students of English Language Education at a Private University in Riau using adapted Questionnaires from Foreign Language Reading Anxiety Inventory (EFLRAI). The result of this research revealed that 8 or 14% of the students are categorize as low anxious level, then 39 or 66% of the students are categorize as medium anxious level and 12 or 20% of them are classified as high anxious level. Furthermore, according to the results of the Mann-Whitney U Test analysis, it figured out that students with lower levels of anxiety outperform the students with higher levels of anxiety in terms of reading comprehension, with a p value of 0.011.

Abstract

Speaking is the act of conveying information or expressing ideas and feelings in spoken English. Anxiety becomes a barrier to language mastery. This study analyse students' speaking anxiety in English. This research used quantitative research methods. Researchers selected class B of third semester consisting of 40 English Language Education students taken with purpossive sampling. Research instrument are used to obtain data from questionnaire. Meanwhile, the data collected by using Google Form. The total number of questions consists of 18 statements using the Likert Scale. According to the results of the questionnaire, the students have anxiety about speaking English, as evidenced by the percentage of responses in the question, which indicated that students had anxiety about speaking English at the time of wanting to speak while the teaching and learning process was in progress. Researchers discovered numerous findings from the anxiety of speaking English after analyzing the data. First, researchers discovered that the following cause contribute to anxiety in English-speaking students: fear self-prediction, irrational faith, sensitivity to dangers, sensitivity to anxiety, attribution of incorrect body signals, and inadequate self-efficacy. Second, the causes of students' speech anxiety are that students are not confident to speaking English, are afraid to make mistakes when speaking, anxious when teachers are asked to speaking, and embarrassed to perform in front of the class.

Abstract

The teaching and learning process, particularly in Universities, was conducted face-to-face but has transitioned to fully online learning back in COVID-19 pandemic. Lecturers and students were forced to engage in online learning and teaching activities, which has a significant impact on the student's learning experience. This study is aimed to investigate students' difficulties in speaking for professional context class during the COVID-19 situation. The quantitative method was used and an online questionnaire was distributed to 30 students in the third-semester English Language Education of a private university in Riau. The findings revealed a number of issues that students encountered while taking the class. The first is the usage of YouTube videos as a source of educational materials. Next, the students have difficulty elaborating on the lecturer's material during online classes. After that, the issue concerns the student procedures when working on projects or assignments assigned by the lecturer. The fourth is overcoming students' access limitations to ZOOM Meetings. The last is the lack of learning equipment and student support services while participating in online learning.

Abstract

As a result of the Covid-19 epidemic, educators in Indonesia have had experience dealing with synchronous learning, which has challenged them to select an interesting and engaging method, strategy, or tool to aid the teaching and learning process. Padlet was eventually chosen as the solution to this study. Padlet is a virtual wall that is used to build students' interest in learning English, specifically writing. In this study, the researchers used a descriptive quantitative research design with a sample of 96 students to assess their perceptions of using Padlet as a virtual wall. Numerous factors such as utility, knowledge, engagement, enjoyment, motivation, and ease of use were determined through a questionnaire-based survey which was then distributed as benefits and drawbacks of using Padlet. According to the findings, the students agreed that Padlet provided several benefits to their learning process. On the other hand, students disagreed with Padlet's disadvantages. Therefore, the result implied that the expectation to enhance knowledge is the major factor influencing students’ perceptions of the Padlet utilization in synchronous learning

Abstract

SMKS Budi Dharma adalah sekolah menengah kejuruan yang ada di Kota Dumai Provinsi Riau. Sekolah ini telah difasilitasi teknologi pendukung proses pembelajaran, salah satunya adalah jaringan internet. Meskipun demikian, ternyata minimnya pengetahuan akan berbagai jenis media berbasis web menjadi salah satu masalah yang dihadapi oleh siswa. Padahal media berbasis web akan sangat membantu siswa dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Oleh karena itu, pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini dilaksanakan untuk memberikan pendampingan dalam menggunakan media pembelajaran interaktif berbasis web bagi siswa SMKS Budi Dharma yang ada di Kota Dumai Provinsi Riau. Adapun tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah memfasilitasi siswa menggali pengetahuan serta keterampilan dalam memanfaatkan berbagai media khususnya yang berbasis web. Media ini nantinya tidak hanya dapat siswa integrasikan di dalam kelas namun juga dapat digunakan secara mandiri atau self-learning. Untuk mencapai keberhasilan kegiatan ini maka dilakukan beberapa kegiatan pendampingan. Pertama, pelatihan mengenai konsep dasar mengenai pengertian, fungsi, manfaat, dan jenis media berbasis web. Kemudian, pendampingan dalam penggunakan berbagai jenis media berbasis web.

Abstract

The transmission of covid-19 has challenged the English lecturer to transform the offline learning to entirely online learning. In managing the classroom virtualy, the lecturer utilized learning management system. Hence, this research aimed to figure outthe students’ perception of using the Learning Management System during the COVID-19 Pandemic at second year students of English Language Education FKIP UIR. The Learning Management Systems that used in this research are limited in using of Google Classroom and CERDAS. The indicator of students’ perception to the Learning Management Systems in this research are Usefulness, Ease of Use, Ease of Learning, and Satisfaction. This research usedthe Quantitative method to analyze the data. To collect the data, the reesearchers usedquestionnaire as the instrument of this research. In analyzing the data, the researchers employed the assessment scale. The results for all indicators categorized ‘agree’. Consequently, the study can be implied that the learning and teaching process through LMS can be accessible and useable

Abstract

Menulis teks dalam bahasa Inggris merupakan sebuah tantanganbesar bagi sebagian besar siswa-siwa di tingkat menengah atas, terlebih di SMKS Budhi Dharma. Hal ini dikarenakan banyaknya komponen-komponen terkait yang harus dikuasai siswa untuk menghasilkan tulisan yang bagus dengan menggunakan Bahasa Inggris. Kurangnya latihan dan feedback yang diberikan oleh guru cenderung menjadi salah satu permasalahan yang menyebabkan fenomena ini terjadi. untuk menyikapi hal ini, tim PkM menawarkan solusi penggunaan AI (Artificial Intellegence) dalam proses menulis untuk mencapai tujuan pembelajaran menulis dalam bahasa Inggris secara efektif dan efisien. Hasil analisis angket menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas siswa memberikan respon positif terhadap pendampingan yang telah diberikan

Abstract

Abstract: An-Nahl Islamic Preschool & Kindergarten is an Islamic-based school and uses a bilingual instruction technique. One of the materials listed in the school curriculum is prayer. Prayer is carried out once a week in the mosque to learn the stages of prayer directly. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, students could only study and pray at school. Responding to this, the community service team provided a solution by providing teaching materials for the stages of prayer through Bilingual Techniques assisted by Augmented Reality media for An-Nahl Islamic Preschool & Kindergarten Tutors. Activities are carried out directly through strict health protocols. Submission of material is done by direct practice method involving preschool and kindergarten students. According to the time specified, the activity ran smoothly and received good attention and a positive response from tutors and students. Students are directly directed by the tutor to follow the prayer stages by praying in the congregation at school.     Keywords: augmented reality; bilingual; media; technique; prayer stagesAbstrak: An-Nahl Islamic Preschool & Kindergarten adalah sekolah berbasis islam dan menggunakan bahasa pengantar yang menggunakan teknik bilingual.  Salah satu materi yang tercantum pada kurikulum di sekolah adalah pembelajaran solat. Pembelajaran solat dilakukan satu minggu sekali di masjid agar peserta didik dapat langsung mempelajari tahapan solat. Namun, selama pandemik COVID-19, Peserta didik hanya dapat mempelajari dan melaksanakan solat di sekolah saja.  Merespon hal tersebut, tim pengabdian masyarakat memberikan solusi dengan memberikan materi Pengajaran tahapan solat melalui Teknik Bilingual berbantuan media Augmented Reality bagi Tutor An-Nahl Islamic Preschool & Kindergarten.  Kegiatan dilaksakan secara langsung melalui protokol kesehatan yang ketat.  Penyampaian materi dilakukan dengan metode praktek langsung dengan melibatkan peserta didik yang terdiri dari peserta didik preschool dan kindergarten. Kegiatan berjalan dengan lancar, sesuai dengan waktu yang ditentukan serta mendapat perhatian yang baik serta respon yang positif dari tutor maupun peserta didik.  Peserta didik langsung diarahkan oleh tutor mengikuti tahapan solat dengan melakukan solat berjamaah di sekolah.   Kata kunci: augmented reality; bilingual; media; teknik; tahapan solat

Abstract

Abstract: Online learning tendencies for elementary students are not effective as expected. A lot of students feel under pressure while learning online. Meanwhile, learning should be fun for their age. To overcome that condition, the teacher should use various interactive media to motivate them in the learning to achieve the learning objectives. In this case, PkM team offers a solution which designing teaching media-based gamification through Kahoot. This media can increase the learning dynamic which can be accessed autonomously or operated by the teacher through video conferences such as Zoom or Google Meet. The features are easy to be operated and innovative so the students can enjoy their learning process by achieving the lesson unrealized. The result of this workshop is effective to improve the teachers’ digital literacy by considering their capability in creating and using Kahoot for the teaching and learning process. It can be seen from their online quiz simulation by utilizing Kahoot.Keywords: gamification; kahoot; learning mediaAbstrak: Kecenderungan belajar secara daring untuk anak-anak sekolah dasar tidak berjalan efektif seperti yang diharapkan. Banyak anak-anak yang merasa terbebani dengan belajar online. Padahal seharusnya belajar haruslah menjadi hal yang menyenangkan bagi mereka pada usianya. Untuk menyikapi hal ini, guru hendaknya menggunakan media ajar yang bervariasi dan tidak   monoton untuk meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa lagi agar tujuan pembelajaran tercapai. Salah satu solusi yang ditawarkan tim PkM adalah media ajar berbasis game   yakni Kahoot. Media ajar ini dapat meningkatkan dinamika pembelajaran yang dapat diakses secara mandiri oleh siswanya maupun dipandu langsung oleh gurunya melalui platform video conference seperti Zoom atau Google Meet. Fitur-fitur yang ringan dan innovative membuat siswa secara tidak sadar mendapatkan ilmu melalui bermain Kahoot tersebut. Hasil kegiatan pelatihan ini dapat dirasakan sangat bermanfaat dilihat dari perubahan literasi guru yang menjadi lebih kreatif dan piawai dalam mendisain pembelajaran yang menyenangkan dengan menggunakan Kahoot. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari hasil quiz berbasis Kahoot yang telah dibuat dan disimulasikan selama pelatihan sebagai hasil pendampingan tim PkM.Kata kunci: gamifikasi; kahoot; learning media
