<![CDATA[The objective of this research was to find out the correlation between students’ grammar mastery and News writing ability of the fourth semester students of English Language Education at Faculty of Teachers’ and Training Universitas Islam Riau. This research used correlation research design. The research sample was 4C Class which consisted of 26 students which selected by using cluster sampling technique. Technique of data collection was grammar and news writing tests. In analysing the data, the researcher applied Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and Significance of Coefficient Correlation formula. The result of calculating correlation between students’ grammar mastery and their achievement in News writing was r = 0.874. It means that there is a significant correlation between students’ mastery of grammar and News writing ability of the fourth semester students of English Language Education at Faculty of Teachers’ and Training Universitas Islam Riau]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to investigate the perceptions of online learning occurring during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study was applied as a case study design. The population of the research was all the second-semester students of English Language Education at one of the private universities in Riau, Indonesia. The population in this study was 173 students, while the sample was selected using random cluster sampling, amounting to 79 students. Data were collected by a questionnaire consisting of 18 questions from five components of online learning using a 5 Likert Scale. The data presented that the dominant percentage of total students gave a positive preference for the utilization of Padlet as online learning media.]]>

<![CDATA[The aim of this research is to analyze students’ language attitude towards blended learning model for writing subject. The mix method was applied through the combination of quantitative data and qualitative data. The former was administered to the students through the four-point likert scale survey. The latter was obtained from the interview. The data was processed and computed by employing SPSS 24, then explained descriptively. The result of the study was classified into three categories namely affective, cognitive, and conative. The first was at moderate level with range 2.51--3.50. The second was at moderate level with range 2.51--3.50. The last was at moderate level with range 2.51--3.50. Overall, it is confirmed that the students positively behave on blended learning model in writing subject. In emphasizing the result, the interview illustrated that students showed good attitude on writing subject when taught by using blended learning model.]]>

<![CDATA[This research aimed to find out students’ writing at vocational school YPPI Tualang and know how WebQuest improves students’ writing procedure text of second-year students at vocational school YPPI Tualang. This current study was experimental research which was held at the vocational school YPPI Tualang. The experimental research involved two groups of students; they were the experimental group and the control group. The research subjects were the second-year students of vocational school YPPI Tualang. The sample of this research was taken randomly. The experimental group that belongs to the experimental group included 20 students, while the students of the control group belong to the control group were 20 students. The researcher's findings included the research results: the experimental class's analysis results show that the mean score of pre-tests in the experimental class was 63.9. The mean score of the post-test was 77.4. Meanwhile, the control class's analysis result shows that the mean score of pre-tests in the control class was 53.8, and the mean score of the post-test was 58.4. It shows that the experimental class experiences improvement in their writing test. The hypothesis testing indicates that the experimental class students' score was higher than the control class. It can be concluded that WebQuest was effective for enhancing learning writing and providing a positive learning experience.]]>

<![CDATA[Collaborative discussion is a purposeful means for lecturers to assist students’ ideas in writing. This research, therefore, aims to determine the effect of collaborative discussion using Padlet-based materials that have been previously developed by researchers for Mechanical Engineering students to enhance learning outcomes. This research was conducted at second-year undergraduate in a class of 40 students. This research was classified as a pre-experimental design. Moreover, the quantitative data were collected by using pre-test and post-test to the sample class. The finding revealed descriptive statistics of the sample studied, pre-test and post-test. For the pre-test value, an average learning outcome or mean of 60.13 is obtained. While for the post-test score, it was obtained the average value of learning outcomes of 77.25. Furthermore, the correlation coefficient or correlation is equal to 0.867 with a significance value (Sig.) of 0.000. The finding indicates that Collaborative learning using Padlet-based teaching materials in Mechanical Engineering class could influence students’ writing outcomes.]]>

<![CDATA[The Coronavirus 2019 outbreak caused the world to experience a pandemic and paralyze human activities, including the education sector. Consequently, the teaching-learning system changed from face-to-face to online. This study aimed to determine how high school students' preferences and challenges in Pekanbaru city employing the Google Classroom to learn English. This descriptive study involved 30 high school and vocational high school students as the sample who obtained through purposive sample technique. Google Form and interviews with Zoom were employed to gather the data. This study found that Google Classroom was quite effective in helping students replace the learning process during a pandemic with an online learning system. ]]>

<![CDATA[Evaluasi merupakan bagian yang sangat krucial pada proses pembelajaran untuk mengetahui ketercapaian tujuan pembelajaran. Namun, pandemi COVID-19 tidak memungkinkan untuk melaksanakan tes secara konvensional. Untuk mengatasai masalah tersebut, tim pengabdian Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris menawarkan solusi dengan memanfaatkan Google formulir sebagai alat tes agar lebih efektif dan efisien di tengah pandemi. Sararan dari pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian adalah guru-guru mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris SMA Negeri 1 Peranap. Kegiatan dilaksanakan secara daring. Setelah materi dipaparkan melalui video tutorial, pemateri melakukan pendampingan mengenai penggunaan Google Formulir dalam evaluasi pembelajaran. Hasil dari kegiatan adalah Guru-guru mendapatkan dampak positif dari kegiatan workshop tes digital melalui Google Formulir (68,5%) dan dapat membuat soal melalui Google Formulir (94,7%).]]>

<![CDATA[This research aimed to explain the extent to which cognitive strategy can improve the students’ reading comprehension and what factors that influence the changes of the students’ reading ability by implementing cognitive strategy. This research was a classroom action research which consists of two cycles and four meetings of each cycle. Three meetings for teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text by using cognitive strategy and another meeting for reading comprehension of descriptive text test. The research was conducted from April, 30 2013 up to May, 30 2013. The instrument used to collect the data were reading comprehension of descriptive text test, observation sheets, field notes, and interview which were helped by a collaborator. The finding revealed that the implementation of cognitive strategy could better improve students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text at grade VII-2 of SMPN 1 Indra Praja Tembilahan. The improvement was confirmed by the increasing average students’ score, the average score of students in cycle I was 70,72 and in cycle II was 78,10. The factors that influence the students’ reading comprehension during the application of cognitive strategy were the materials, the students’ reading motivation, and the teacher’s role to students. Finally, the classroom action research by using cognitive strategy could improve the students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text at grade VII-2 SMPN 1 Indra Praja Tembilahan.]]>

<![CDATA[The lecturers are in search of exploring innovative assessment techniques in order to promote students skill. For assessing students’ language skills, the study introduces Edmodo. Being a web-based online technology, beside can provide all subject, Edmodo also allows students and teacher to post materials, share videos and links, grades, notices, and assignment. It enables teachers to work with their learners in real time, and can be used either in the class or at home. The special code assigned for a particular group which makes it secure and safe in use. The study focuses on how the use of edmodo as an assessment tool. 68 students from two classes that attending News and Report Writing Course in English Language Education Islamic University of Riau in Pekanbaru participated in various assessment activities through Edmodo during 2016/2017 academic year. Reflection of the students regarding the use of Edmodo as an assessment tool were obtained by semi-structured interviews. There were four questions which posed to the students conducted by the researcher. The result indicated that most of the students motivated and Edmodo also reduced their test anxiety to a great extent and they would prefer to be assessed through Edmodo rather than traditional asessment techniques like pen-and-paper test.]]>

<![CDATA[Quipper School is an online learning platform which consists of two portals, namely Learn for students and Link for teachers This research aimed to investigates the students‟ perception on the advantages and disadvantages of Quipper School platform in learning English. This research was conducted at SMAN 3 Mandau, and the sample was 52 students of the eleventh grade. This research used quantitative research, and the instrument is questionnaire. The questionnaire consists of 20 questions, divided into 10 questions of the advantages and 10 questions of the disadvantages. The results of this study were processed quantitatively using the Likert scale formula. The finding revealed the index advantages of 1st statement to the 10th statement were about between 60%-75%. The result indicates that students completely agree with the 10 questions of the advantages of Quipper School‟s. Equally important, the researcher also found that the students were dominant disagree with the 9 questions and were agree of 1 question of disadvantages of Quipper School‟s with the index 52%-61%. In conclusion, the students of SMAN 3 Mandau dominant disagree with the disadvantages of Quipper School and they assumed that Quipper School is an online learning platform that suitable for teachers and students in the learning process, especially in learning English.]]>
