Abstract

This study aims to determine the students’ speaking skill before and after applying Guessing Game and find out the effect of Guessing Game on the students’ speaking skill at the first semester of English education study program of STAIN Bengkalis. This research is experimental research that involved 18 students at the first semester of English Education Study Program of STAIN Bengkalis. Speaking test was implemented in order to collect the students’ speaking performance, and the collected data were quantitatively analyzed. Guessing Game has a less significant effect in improving the students’ speaking skill at the first semester of English education study program of STAIN Bengkalis. This is evidenced by the results of t-o (1,3) smaller than t-table.

Abstract

The main aim of this research is to investigate the useful strategy in teaching and learning process to improve Speaking Ability at SMPN 1 Bengkalis at the seventh year. In this research, a researcher tries to modify Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) Using Video Technique into English material. The researcher uses Quasi-exprimental design which a data is taken from pre-test and post-test after giving a treatment for expriment group and non treatment for control group. The population and the sample of this research are the seventh grade of SMPN 1 Bengkalis in Bengkalis subdistric, the research is held for 6 (Six) meetings or 3 (Three) weeks. The research is quantitative, the data analysis of students’ performance in a pre and post-test, the result findings showed that students showed some improvement in Speaking Ability. It can be seen from the test scores after intervention compared to the control group. It means that there is significant effect of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) Technique on Students’ Speaking Ability.

Abstract

Reinforcement is a response to a behavior that can increase the likelihood of the behavior recurring. Reinforcement can be done verbally and nonverbally, with principles, enthusiasm, meaningful and positive responses. The problems found are; Most teachers have not yet how to provide good and correct reinforcement and also do not know the benefits of reinforcement in learning. This research is descriptive research. Based on the data obtained, it can be concluded that the form of reinforcement given by teachers at SMP Bengkalis as a whole is varied, but in the results of observations teachers use verbal reinforcement more often than nonverbal reinforcement. This can be seen in the proportion obtained as much as 83.33%. In addition, reinforcement also has a good influence on students and learning goals. This can be seen from the positive response from students and the increased enthusiasm of students in learning and also seen from the percentage obtained as much as 61.11%. The reinforcement given at SMP Bengkalis has varied and is going well.

Abstract

Tradisi Bele kampung yang dilakukan oleh masyarakat pambang pesisir merupakan suatu bentuk upacara tradisional yang dilakukan oleh masyarakat dan upacara ini mempunyai makna yaitu sebagai kesangupan untuk kewajiban berbakti kepada kampung tempat tinggal serta mepertahankan warisan dari leluhur secara kolektif dalam bentuk upacara tradisi bele kapung yaitu kebiasaan yang dilakukan oleh masyarakat pambang pesisir dengan sebuah harapan agar kehidupan tetap aman jauh dari segala macam persoalan.             Adapun maksud dan tujuan  dari tradisi bele kampung masyarakat pambang pesisir merupakan ekspresi keterbatasan manusia, dimana para nelayan mengharapkan keselamatan sewaktu bekerja di laut dan didarat dan hasil panen pun meningkat. Untuk itu mereka mengadakan ritual bele kampuang, untuk meningkatkan pendapatan atau kekuatan atau perlindungan, salah satu yang nampak bahwa ritual bele kampung sebagai ekspresi religius adalah keyakinan mereka bahwa ritual ini sebagai wujud rasa sukur terhadap Tuhan yang Maha Kuasa yang telah memberi rezeki melalui hasil panen di laut dan didarat. Disamping itu, ketika pelaksanaan ritual bele kampung, suasana religius nampak mulai dari bacaan-bacaan mantra oleh tokoh masyarakat yang sebagian doa-doanya mengunakan bahasa arab. Berkaitan dengan hal tradisi bele kampung, maka masyarakat kampung pambang pesisir. Kecamatan Bantan Kabupaten Bengkalis termasuk yang berupaya untuk mewujudkan keterpadauan antara sesuatu yang sakral dan yang profan,

Abstract

This research is motivated by most of the students have low participation in learning English during pandemic COVID-19. The aim is to know Students' intrinsic motivation and Students’ extrinsic motivation in learning English during pandemic COVID-19. The method used is a survey method with a quantitative descriptive approach. The subjects of this research are the students of seventh grade of SMPN 1 Bukit Batu in the academic year of 2021/2022. The sampling technique used is simple random sampling, the researcher takes the sample using lottery so that this study used 86 students to be used as samples. The data in this study were obtained by distributing questionnaires in the form of statements using a Likert scale. Data analysis techniques using descriptive statistics. The results of this study show that 1) The average level of students' intrinsic motivation in learning English during the pandemic COVID-19 is in the excellent category. 2) Average level of students' extrinsic motivation in learning English during the pandemic COVID-19 in the Good category

Abstract

This research aims to explain the extent to which task based learning (TBL) technique can improve the students’ speaking skill and what factors that influence the changes of the students’ speaking skill by implementing TBL technique. This research is a classroom action research (CAR), which was conducted in two cycles. The instruments that were used to collect the data were speaking test, observation sheet, field notes, and interview guide. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The findings reveal that the implementation of TBL technique can improve the students’ speaking skill at first semester of English Education Study Program STAIN Bengkalis. It was showed from the students’ average score. The mean score before conducting the research was 2.62, the mean score of cycle 1 was 2.98, and the mean score of cycle 2 was 3.38. Besides, this research also found the factors that influence the changes of the students’ speaking skill by implementing TBL technique namely, real world material, interaction, and lecturer’s role. Therefore, it can be concluded that TBL technique is effective in teaching speaking. While, real world material, interaction, and lecturer’s role influence the improvement of the students’ speaking skill at first semester of TBI.

Abstract

In addition to studying in formal schools, children can also study in non-formal schools, such as taking courses to understand a lesson. However, to be able to take the course certainly costs a lot. The symptoms found were that some students came from underprivileged families. Found it difficult to divide their study time with their busy lives at the orphanage, lacked interest in learning English, and did not have English language manuals other than textbooks from school. This service activity aims to improve students' English through courses at the Dayang Dermah Bengkalis Orphanage. The method used in this service activity is through fun courses in games, singing, and short conversations. The result of this service is that students' English skills have increased with this course, as evidenced by the increase in students' average English scores from 78 on the initial test to 87 on the final test. It can be concluded that using the course method is an effective way to Improving Students' English at Dayang Dermah Bengkalis Orphanage.
