Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension Through “KWL Plus” Technique at SMAN 2 Kampar Zalisman Zalisman; Riki Astafi

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out the significant improvement of using KWL Plus technique in comprehending reading text. Thus, to find out the improvement of students’ reading comprehension, the writer carried out experimental research, which focused only in experimental class. The writer used KWL Plus technique that consisted of some steps. First, the students must completed KWL grid that consists of three columns. Then, the students made concept map based on information from KWL grid. After that, they wrote a summary based on concept map. The sample of this research are thirty five students. The research has been conducted from May to June 2020 at the first year students of SMA N 2 Kampar. In collecting data, the writer gave reading texts in form of multiple choice tests that consists of 30 questions to the sample of experimental class. After giving the test to the sample, the writer collected the answer sheets to be calculated for the data. The obtained data was analyzed by using the formula of t-test in Hatch and Farhady Book (1982:105). It was found that t-calculated was 7.06 and t-table on the level of significant 5% or 0.05 and degree of freedom (df) 34 was2.042. It was seen that Tc>Tt. It means that null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. In other words by using KWL Plus technique was able to give positive contribution to improve students’ achievement in reading comprehension at the first year students of SMA N 2 Kampar.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the development of the Naqshabandiyah Tarekat and its influence on the socio-cultural life of the Sakai people in Bengkalis Regency. The findings of this study are that the Naqshabandiyah Tarekat entered and developed among the Sakai Tribe in a number of different regions, but not at the same time with different carrier figures. If mapped, there are three main lines (networks), namely the first line of the Ibrahim Caliph in 1912 at Bomban Potani in the area of Bathin Solapan. Second, the path of Sheikh Imam Sabar Al-Kholidi in 1925 in Beringin Village, Talang Muandau area. Third, Caliph Mahmud in 1947 in Tasik Serai. The presence of the Naqsyabandiyah Tarekat in the onder region of the Mandau district can be well accepted by the Sakai Tribe. This is evidenced by the existence of approximately 11 suluk houses in the Sakai Tribe domicile today. The teachings of the Naqshabandiyah Tarekat greatly influenced the socio-cultural life of the Sakai Tribe. Most of them have abandoned the bad habits that have been practiced and become devout Muslims. Islamic values are very thick coloring their social system both concerning the system of marriage and family life, social relations, political and government leadership, customs and traditions, and the economy.

Abstract

In addition to studying in formal schools, children can also study in non-formal schools, such as taking courses to understand a lesson. However, to be able to take the course certainly costs a lot. The symptoms found were that some students came from underprivileged families. Found it difficult to divide their study time with their busy lives at the orphanage, lacked interest in learning English, and did not have English language manuals other than textbooks from school. This service activity aims to improve students' English through courses at the Dayang Dermah Bengkalis Orphanage. The method used in this service activity is through fun courses in games, singing, and short conversations. The result of this service is that students' English skills have increased with this course, as evidenced by the increase in students' average English scores from 78 on the initial test to 87 on the final test. It can be concluded that using the course method is an effective way to Improving Students' English at Dayang Dermah Bengkalis Orphanage.

Abstract

Reading and understanding the Qur'an is obligatory for Muslims, for this reason, instilling a culture of reading and memorizing selected short surahs will be better if done as early as possible.The purpose of this study is to discuss literacy skills and mastery of memorizing short verses in early childhood.This research method uses a qualitative type through surveys and in-depth interviews via WaatsApp.The subjects of this research are teachers who teach and students who take early childhood education (PAUD). The results of this study include an overview of improving literacy skills and mastery of short verses in early childhood.This study concludes that the ability to memorize short verses in early childhood is very diverse, and mastery of short verses still needs guidance and must be improved literacy skills on short verses.The limitation in this study is that researchers have not been able to examine more deeply the literacy skills possessed by each early childhood.Therefore, researchers hope that future researchers can conduct research that aims to examine more deeply the ability of early childhood in understanding short verses.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between social media and altruistic behavior among Generation Z through a systematic literature review of 25 Scopus-indexed articles. Social media platforms have emerged as significant tools for fostering prosocial behavior, providing avenues for awareness, engagement, and collective action. Findings indicate that social media plays a dual role in shaping altruism by enabling actions such as fundraising and volunteering while also posing challenges like slacktivism and compassion fatigue. Generation Z's digital fluency and emphasis on authenticity shape their approach to altruistic behavior, with preferences for digital activism and campaigns aligned with their values. This study highlights the need for designing authentic, transparent, and impactful digital campaigns to promote sustained altruism and calls for further exploration of the long-term effects of social media-driven altruism.

Abstract

This literature review explores the implementation of flipped classroom methods in English language teaching (ELT), aiming to evaluate their effectiveness and challenges in enhancing language skills and learner engagement. By systematically reviewing peer-reviewed articles, conference papers, and case studies from the last decade, the research identifies common themes, benefits, and obstacles of flipped classrooms. Findings show that flipped classrooms significantly boost student engagement, motivation, and autonomous learning through interactive, student-centered environments. Teachers benefit from increased flexibility in content delivery and addressing individual student needs. However, challenges include the substantial initial time investment for preparation and the necessity of robust technological infrastructure. Additionally, some students struggle with adapting to self-directed learning. Despite these challenges, the flipped classroom method offers a promising alternative to traditional ELT approaches, with notable improvements in learner engagement and language proficiency, provided there is careful planning, adequate resources, and continuous support for both teachers and students.

Abstract

Maryam adalah Sosok wanita Tangguh yang diceritakan dalam Al-Qur’an berhasil mendidik anaknya walaupun single parent mengantarkan putranya menjadi seorang pemimpin bahkan menjadi seorang Nabi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami Penafsiran Kisah Maryam Dan Isa Dalam surat Maryam ayat 16-40 dan untuk memahami nilai-nilai pendidikan anak dalam keluarga single parent pada surat Maryam ayat 30-34.. Pendekatan yang digunakan untuk mengurai hasil penelitian adalah pendekatan Kepustakaan. Metode penelitian menggunakan penelitian kepustakaan (library Research) yaitu adalah penelitian yang dilakukan dengan membaca karya-karya tertulis yang terkait dengan persoalan yang dikaji. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsep dasar Pendidikan Islam, berupa nilai-nilai akidah, syariat dan akhlak. Pendidikan Akidah yang dikandung dalam surat Maryam ini adalah keharusan mempercayai adanya rukun iman, yang berupa percaya pada Allah, malaikat, rosul serta nabi, kitab-kitab, hari kiamat dan yang terakhir qada-qadar. Pendidikan syariat yang terkandung dalam surat Maryam ini terletak pada kewajiban sebagai seorang hamba untuk selalu menyembah kepada Allah sebagai rasa syukur kepada sang pencipta yaitu dengan shalat. Selain shalat seseorang juga bisa mendekatkan diri kepada Allah dengan cara menunaikan zakat. Pendidikan akhlak yang terdapat dari surat Maryam ini adalah kewajiban bagi seorang anak untuk selalu berbakti kepada orang tua.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan Nilai-Nilai Religius dalam acara Mandi kumbo dalam pernikahan adat Melayu di Bengkalis Provinsi Riau. Pendekatan yang digunakan untuk mengurai hasil penelitian adalah pendekatan seni, budaya dan esensi. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskritif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan Observasi (dokumentasi) dan Wawancara (Interview). Teknik analisis data menggunakan model analisis data Miles dan Huberman yaitu Pengumpulan data, Reduksi data, Penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tradisi mandi kumbo menjadi salah satu fokus kebudayaan yang keberadaannya diakui secara adat istiadat dan sebagai warisan budaya oleh masyarakat Bengkalis, selain itu tradisi ini memiliki makna dan nilai Religius yang penting bagi masyarakat Bengkalis. Abstract

The efforts to enhance the understanding of religious moderation in the Bengkalis District aim to strengthen tolerance and social harmony in a diverse society. This community service program is designed to provide education and outreach on the values of religious moderation, such as tolerance, respect, and rejection of extremism. The approach used in this program includes seminars, workshops, and interactive discussions involving various elements of the community, including religious leaders, youth, and local communities. Active participation from different parties is expected to increase the effectiveness of conveying the messages of moderation. The evaluation shows a significant improvement in the community's understanding and attitudes regarding religious moderation. Not only has awareness increased, but the program has also successfully fostered mutual respect among different religious groups. This improvement is reflected in the following indicators: Inclusive and Tolerant Attitudes increased from 40% to 75%, Neutral Attitudes decreased from 35% to 20%, and Exclusive and Intolerant Attitudes dropped from 25% to 5%. Thus, this initiative not only provides short-term positive impacts but also has the potential to become a model for implementing similar programs in other areas. These efforts are expected to contribute to the creation of a more harmonious, tolerant society that can coexist in diversity. The program emphasizes the importance of interfaith dialogue as a foundation for inclusive and peaceful social development, which in turn supports sustainable national development. This program reflects a structured and holistic strategy in promoting religious moderation and building a cohesive society.
