Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic since early 2020 in Indonesia, the demand for electrical energy in the housing sector has increased significantly. This is due to the government’s recommendation to reduce activities on the outside and work from home, specifically for educational and entertainment activities. Those are almost recommended to be done online. Many people complain about the increase in monthly electricity payments compared to before the pandemic. The construction of solar power plants in housing/solar home systems (SHS) will reduce the electricity consumption from the public grid. This SHS installation can be used to supply some household electricity needs, such as computers, televisions, internet facilities, lighting, et cetera. In this article, the researchers discuss the performance testing of SHS with a capacity of 300 Wp. It is installed in the house buildings accompanied by the design and measurement of solar energy potential.

Abstract

In this work, the demonstration of dissipative soliton (DS) was observed in erbium doped fiber laser (EDFL) using of Bismuth Telluride (Bi2Te3) nanosheets saturable absorber (SA). The prepared SA was deposited on a fiber ferrule using optical deposition method. Interestingly, the DS generatered was accompanied with sidebands and the number of sidebands grew with laser diode pump power. Sidebands were observed as a result of modulation instability (MI) process, which arises from the interaction between DS and nonlinear gain in the fiber laser cavity. Signal to noise ratio (SNR) of 58 dB was attained, confirming the stability of the generated pulse. This work proved the capability of Bi2Te3 as SA for generating DS with sidebands in an EDFL.

Abstract

The energy crisis is a major issue in developing countries, with fossil fuels being the main source of cooking. Induction cookers have received attention due to their safe operation and eco-friendliness, but traditional AC induction cookers are costly and inefficient due to an inverter and rectifier. In this regard, this paper aims to model and develop a solar-powered, low-cost, and highly efficient induction cooker that can be operated directly by solar panels through a battery. By utilizing the solar panels’ maximum output, a maximum power point tracking (MPPT)-based solar power controller has been utilized to charge the battery. A modified coil structure for the cooker is proposed to decrease the coil’s excitation time and increase the resonant frequency. A quasi-resonant converter topology has been used in the proposed induction cooker, as it operates at high frequencies above 20 kHz to avert audible noise and below 100 kHz to minimize losses in switching. The performance of the suggested induction cooktop has been validated by modifying the circuit and the coil of a traditional 220 V, 2 kW induction cooker. Based on the outcomes, it is observed that the efficiency of the proposed induction cooker reached 93%, which is better than that of existing induction cookers.

Abstract

A solar photovoltaic (PV) array is part of a PV power plant as a generation unit. PV array that are usually placed on top of buildings or the ground will be very susceptible to dirt and dust. Thus, this dirt and dust will be able to reduce the performance and work efficiency of the generation unit. Cleaning PV arrays by manpower requires high effort, cost, and risk, especially in higher location. This study presents the design of a mobile robot that is used to replace human labor to clean PV arrays. That way, the PV array maintenance steps can reduce operational costs and risks. This intelligent controlled mobile robot can maneuver safely and efficiently over PV arrays. gyroscope and proximity sensors are used to detect and follow the sweep path over the entire PV array area. Proportional integral derivative (PID) control test makes the robot can stabilize in about 5.72 seconds to keep on the track. The smart PV cleaning robot has average operation time about 13 minutes in autonomous mode and 20-24 minutes in manual mode. The operation of the robot is effective to give more efficiency on the use of energy, time, and maintenance costs of PV array system.
