The experimental class is taught by Vlogging. Both classes took Pre-Test and post-test. The instrument of collecting data is an oral test that focuses on describing one of the historical place. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental class learning achievements on the post-test. The mean score and standard deviation of the post-test in the experimental class were (M=11.73, SD=1.387). The results of data analysis indicate that the Vlogging technique has a contribution to improve students' speaking skills in descriptive text material. In implementing vlogging, the researcher found several benefits, the first being that students really enjoyed learning to use vlogging. second, students can used vlogging to demonstrate ideas and give students' creativity and thirdly in today's era students easily access the internet and can learn where and whenever they want. The population of this research was the second-grade students of SMA Negeri 3 Sinjai Timur who enrolled in the academic year 2020/2021 consist of 30 students. The technique sampling used in this research was random sampling. The sample of this research is class XI MIA 2 consists of 15 students, the instrument used to collect data was the speaking test. The data were analysed by descriptive and inferential technique statistic. The result of the research presented that the pre-test of the class got a mean score of 31.26. After giving treatment the students got a mean score of 62.86. The outcome of the data analysis revealed that there was a significant improvement in students’ transactional speaking skills using YouTube Music Video. Subsequently, it was also supported by the result of one sample t-test where Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 < 0.05. This implies that the treatment had a significant main effect on the students’ transactional speaking skills achievement. Therefore the null (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Based on the result analysis, the researcher may conclude that using YouTube Music Video was effective to improve the students Transactional Speaking skills especially at Class XI MIA 2 at SMA Negeri 3 Sinjai Timur.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the influence of the Mind Mapping Technique on students’ writing skills at MA Guppi Samata. Since writing in English seems to be one of the most difficult tasks to do. The researcher intended to help the students write a descriptive text by applying the mind mapping technique. The researcher performed the quasi experimental research method to find the influence of the technique. The population of this research was 49 first-grade students at MA Guppi Samata. The subjects of this study were 25 students from the experimental class and 24 students from the control class. The researcher did the treatment by teaching descriptive text and applying the mind mapping technique. The data were collected through the test. The result of the data was analyzed quantitatively. By comparing the value of the t-test and t-table to analyze the hypothesis, the researcher defined the result of the research. The researcher found that there was a significant difference between students’ scores in the post-test for the experimental class and the controlled class. The mean score of post-tests (7.44) in the experimental class was greater than the mean score of post-tests (6.54) in the controlled class. Furthermore, the comparison of the t-test (3.333) and the t-table (2.021) indicated that the t-test was higher than the t-table at the level of significance (α) = 0.05 with a degree of freedom (df) = (N1 + N2)-2 = (25 + 24) – 2 = 47. Based on the t-test and t-table comparison results, it was shown that the mind-mapping technique influenced the students’ writing skills. It has been proved that mind mapping is one of the techniques that helps students find and organize ideas for writing, especially descriptive text. Students are facilitated by the diagram in mind mapping that represents the way of organizing ideas linked to the central keyword with branches containing related words.

Abstract

Learning Indonesian in higher education, especially at IAIN Palopo, faces significant challenges due to the lack of appropriate and effective teaching materials, so it is necessary to develop teaching materials based on higher-order thinking Skills (HOTS) to improve the quality of learning and students' language skills. This study aims to develop and evaluate Indonesian language teaching materials based on higher-order thinking Skills (HOTS) to improve the quality of learning and language skills of students at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, IAIN Palopo. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the Borg and Gall design to develop Indonesian language teaching materials based on higher-order thinking Skills (HOTS) at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, IAIN Palopo. The research process involves the development, validation by experts, and revision of teaching materials, with data collected through validation sheets and analyzed using the Aiken index to measure validity. This research has successfully developed Indonesian language teaching materials entitled "Indonesian Language for Higher Education: Learning Based on Higher Order Thinking Skills" integrated with HOTS. This book includes ten interrelated chapters covering the history and development of Indonesian as well as reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Three experts have validated This book through two stages and have successfully met the validity criteria regarding material, presentation, graphics, and language. The developed teaching materials show the potential to improve Indonesian language learning in higher education with the HOTS approach. This study provides a basis for further research on implementing these teaching materials in higher education environments.

Abstract

Adolescent mental health is receiving growing attention across sectors, including within Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). As faith-based educational institutions, pesantren are well positioned to support students’ psychological development; however, adolescents in these settings may face stressors related to academic demands, social adjustment, and communal living. This program implemented Helping Adolescents Thrive (HAT) training using an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach to strengthen students’ life skills, emotional regulation, and resilience. The intervention used interactive lectures, guided discussions, and simulations and was delivered to female students at Darul Aman Islamic Boarding School. Implementation occurred in three stages: (1) identification and mapping of community assets within the pesantren, (2) delivery of HAT training aligned with those assets, and (3) evaluation of program impact. Findings indicatedimproved participant understanding of mental health and positive changes in self-concept. The ABCD framework also appeared to increase students’ confidence in addressing challenges and their openness to seeking support when experiencing psychosocial difficulties. Overall, ABCD-informed HAT training shows promise for promoting adolescent mental health in pesantren settings, although additional multi-site evaluations are needed to assess broader applicability.
