Abstract

In addition, the variables GDP, poverty, and the exchange rate also have a significant effect on exports. Meanwhile, the two variables of inflation and distance have no effect on Indonesian exports. This condition shows the same thing among the three trading partner countries. Limitations: Other elements were not included in this study, such as digitalization and international trade technology. Contribution: The theoretical contribution of this research provides scientific contributions in the field of economic liberalization and poverty, and the empirical contribution shows that Indonesia's macroeconomic conditions are still dependent on trade with neighboring countries.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the comparison of the financial performance of Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) and Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB) before and after the merger, using the financial variables Return on Asset (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR), Operating Costs to Operating Income, Non-Performing Financing (NPF), and Earning Per Share (EPS). This research uses a quantitative-comparative approach with data analyzed through descriptive statistical tests, classical assumption tests, and hypothesis tests. The results showed that the merger had a significant impact on the financial performance of both banks, although the effect varied depending on each variable and country context. In general, the merger improved operational efficiency and competitiveness, especially for BSI, which showed significant operational efficiency and scale improvements. However, there were some variables for which the results were not significant for Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad, indicating the different internal and external factors that influenced the merger outcome.

Abstract

The issue of currency unification among ASEAN countries is often the concern of researchers given the reactive conditions of ASEAN countries to the 1997/1998 crisis and the 2008 financial crisis. This study aims to analyze the impact of ASEAN currencies (rupiah, ringgit, Singapore dollar, baht and peso) against shocks in other ASEAN countries. The concept of this study uses an exchange rate approach based on (peg) the currencies of ASEAN countries with the US Dollar and Singapore Dollar. In addition, this research aims to analyze the symmetrical response of currencies to shocks to currencies of other countries. The research method approaches the short and long-term vector autoregression (VAR) model using the monthly real exchange rate variable data from 1990 - 2018.The results of the impulse response function show that the response of ASEAN countries' currencies (rupiah, ringgit, Singapore dollar, baht and peso) is more symmetric base (peg) currency with the Singapore dollar compared to the US dollar.
