Abstract

Background: Stroke is one of the leading causes of global disability. Post stroke rehabilitation program becomes the key to gain functional recovery. Thus it minimizes disabilities. Multiple studies have been carried out to gain greater functional outcomes for post stroke patients, including medical therapy such as supplements. However, supplement effectiveness in providing stroke recovery or prevention is still debatable. There is no data of supplement consumption among post stroke patients; therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the supplement consumption among post stroke patients. Methods: This study was a cross sectional descriptive study using primary data with a consecutive sampling method. Minimum samples for this study were 42 post stroke respondents who followed rehabilitation program. This study was conducted at Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic of Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital Bandung from June until November 2013. The interviews were done after written informed consent was obtained. Descriptive statistics such as frequency distributin and proportion were used to analyze the data. Results: From 42 respondents, 23 (55%) respondents consumed the supplement. From 34 supplements recorded, 56% were herbs supplements; followed by multivitamin (29%), mineral (6%), multivitamin and mineral (6%), and other supplement (3%). The most frequent ingredients composed in the supplements were B1, B6 and B12 vitamin (7%).Conclusions: More than a half of post stroke patients at Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital are supplement users, with herbal supplements as the majority. The most frequent ingredients used are B1, B6 and B12 vitamin. [AMJ.2016;3(3):451–8]DOI: 10.15850/amj.v3n3.865

Abstract

Many students do not have good problem solving skills in solving problems in everyday life, especially in chemistry learning. Therefore, analysis of students' problem solving abilities is needed to determine the level of problem solving abilities in chemistry learning, especially in colloidal systems material in everyday life. The purpose of this study is to describe how students use cooperative learning, specifically contextual learning, to solve problems. The goals of this study will be accomplished since the data collected will take the shape of words or utterances derived from the outcomes of interviews and Polya's problem-solving abilities. The use of this innovative learning media is supported by a contextual learning model. The type of research used in this study is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. This research procedure includes: (1) preparation stage; (2) implementation stage and (3) Final Stage. The problem solving ability of class XI students of SMAS Pertiwi Medan is at the "very good" level with a total of 24 students and a percentage of 39% of the total 62 students. The difficulty in answering problem solving ability test questions that students often experience is not understanding the story content of the test questions given.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explore the use of the surrounding environment as a learning resource in Social Studies (IPS) learning at State Elementary School 2 Metro Timur. The method used is a qualitative approach with a phenomenological research type. Interviews with teachers and students and analysis of supporting documents were used to do this. The results of the study indicate that the surrounding environment, such as school gardens and community social activities, can be used as contextual and meaningful learning resources. Because environment-based learning is considered more interesting and easier to understand, students respond well to it. However, there are several obstacles. These include time constraints, unpredictable weather, poor student coordination, and limited facilities. Teachers must plan well, use alternative learning media, divide clear roles in group activities, and optimize school facilities. According to this study, environment-based IPS learning can create an active, contextual, and relevant learning atmosphere to students' real lives, and has the potential to improve their conceptual understanding and social skills.

Abstract

This study examines how environmental pressure, trade openness and agricultural employment relate to agribusiness sustainability in the ASEAN-5 over 2002–2024. A balanced panel of 115 country-year observations is estimated using Fixed Effects, FE-EGLS, FMOLS as the main model, and DOLS as a robustness check. Trade openness is negative and agricultural employment positively associated with agribusiness sustainability in all four specifications. Agricultural carbon emissions carry a negative coefficient throughout but lose significance under DOLS and are therefore sensitive to the estimator. The findings suggest that excessive trade liberalisation may weaken domestic agribusiness resilience, while agricultural labour remains important for food security. Keywords: Agribusiness Sustainability; Trade Openness; Agricultural Emissions; ASEAN-5; Panel Cointegration; FMOLS

Abstract

Students’ poor learning attitudes constitute one of the challenges in mathematics instruction in Grade XI at SMKN 1 Tanjuang Baru. Observations and interviews showed that some students perceived mathematics as difficult and boring, were less active in learning, demonstrated insufficient responsibility in completing assignments, and tended not to pay attention to the teacher’s explanations. This condition was accompanied by low mathematics learning outcomes, as indicated by the large number of students who obtained scores below the Minimum Mastery Criterion. This study aimed to analyze the effect of learning attitudes on the mathematics learning outcomes of Grade XI students at SMKN 1 Tanjuang Baru. The study employed a quantitative approach with an ex post facto correlational design. The study population comprised 106 students from five classes, while the sample consisted of 30 students selected through random sampling. Data were collected using a Likert-scale learning attitude questionnaire and documented mathematics learning outcome scores. The data were analyzed using a normality test, linearity test, Pearson product–moment correlation, simple linear regression, coefficient of determination, and t test. The results showed a positive and very strong relationship between learning attitudes and mathematics learning outcomes, with a correlation coefficient of 0.820. Learning attitudes explained 67.3% of the variance in mathematics learning outcomes, while the remaining 32.7% was not explained by the research model. The hypothesis test results showed that learning attitudes had a positive and significant effect on mathematics learning outcomes. Thus, the more positive the students’ learning attitudes, the better the mathematics learning outcomes they achieved. These findings imply the importance of implementing instruction that supports the development of positive learning attitudes to improve the mathematics learning outcomes of vocational high school students.
