Abstract

The aim of this research is produce a set of PISA-like mathematics task with Indonesia natural and cultural heritage as context which are valid, practical, to assess students’ mathematics literacy. This is design research using type of development research with formative evaluation. A total of 20 students of SMP Negeri 1 Palembang. Beside, 10 experts were involved in this research to assess the feasibility of prototyping in terms of content, context and language. Walk through, documentation, questionnaire, test result, and interviews are way to collect the data. This research produced a PISA-like math task is as many 12 category of content, context, and process valid, practical and has potential effect. The validity came empirical evaluation of validation and reliability testing during small group. From the field test, we conclude that the tasks also potentially effect to the students’ mathematical literacy in activating the indicators of each Fundamental Mathematical Capabilities.Keywords: development research, PISA task, mathematics literacy, fundamental mathematical capabilities DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.22342/jme.7.1.2812.1-8

Abstract

This study aims to develop a math problem type PISA to familiarize students using problems with PISA standard and produces a valid, practical, PISA context of Bangka (Tanjung Kalian Lighthouse) type and see the basic math skills (KDM) seen from the context of Tanjung Kalian lighthouse. The research method used is design research with the type of research development or development studies. The result of the research is a valid PISA math problem at the expert review stage and one to one, while small group stages do the practicality. The ability that is found in the form of communication, representation, mathematical, reasoning, and argument, and formulates a strategy to solve the problem.

Abstract

This research aims to develop constructivist module and web on circle and sphere material with wingeom software are valid, practice and effective. The type of this research is development research. This research constitute development research utilize Plomp design that comprise of three phases: 1) the preliminary research, 2) prototyping phase, and 3) assessment phase. Abstract

In line with design research, the use of Bermain Satu Rumah (BSR) as traditional  game to support children’s counting classroom wherein students are encouraged to construct mathematical understanding. Number in traditional games is an interesting aspect that is helpful for children to encounter numerous situations that bring them into contact with sounds, symbols and meanings that relate to numbers. Bermain satu rumah as starting activity would be media to enhance student’s sense of number as well as to be used as learning material. By developing  model-of  problem of bermain  satu rumah as traditional context, resultative counting is counting a number of things with the aim of determining how many are there (the result) that can be showed by using addition and multiplication concepts. Student’s thinking on their level exhibited us their successful conservation when they were in the last grade. The progress of understanding by game, especially bermain  satu  rumah, is concrete effort to support number learning in primary school. Using game in learning process, for instance, mathematics learning for primary school can be a mathematics program for young children.

Abstract

This paper reports implementation results of designing a workshop for mathematics teacher in introducing classroom social norms. The participants are eight mathematics teachers in primary and junior secondary level. Teachers learned and did some activities about social norms during the workshop. First, they watched an example of learning videos about social norms. Then they discussed and shared in the group about their experiences in using social norms in the classroom. Finally, they made a commitment to try their knowledge about social norms in their classroom. This research used the design research method. Data were collected using videotaped, interview, and focus group discussion and were analyzed qualitatively. Results show that: (1) Teachers satisfied in following all activities relating to the social norms in the workshop. (2) Teachers realized that they had used some activities of social norms such as guiding students to communicate, asking questions and giving argumentation. Abstract

This study aimed to produce learning trajectory with rowing context that can help students understand addition and subtraction of fractions. Subject of the research were students IV MIN 2 Palembang. The method used was research design with three stages, those are preparing for the experiment, the design experiments, and the retrospective analysis. Learning trajectory was designed from in-formal stage to the formal stage. At the informal stage, Rowing was used as a starting point to explore the students’ knowledge of fractions. Data collection conducted through video recordings and photos to see the learning process in the classroom, written tests, observation and interviews during the learning process with the students which is the subject of research. Research produced learning trajectory consisting of a series of learning addition and subtraction of fractions dealing with the rowing. The results showed that the use of the rowing can be a bridge of students' thinking and help students in understanding the operation of addition and subtraction of fractions.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.22342/jme.9.1.4270.69-80

Abstract

Journal on Mathematics Education (JME), formerly called Indonesian Mathematical Society Journal on Mathematics Education (IndoMS-JME), is the first international journal on mathematics education in Indonesia. The primary goal of the journal is to support and facilitate mathematics educators and researchers either from Indonesia or other countries to publish their works in mathematics education. In 2010, Professor Zulkardi, the vice president of the Indonesian Mathematical Society (IndoMS) as well as a mathematics educator from the Universitas Sriwijaya started the JME.  Professor Widodo, the president of IndoMS at that time, launched the first volume of the JME at the opening of National Conference on Mathematics in Universitas Negeri Manado, June 30th, 2010. This editorial focuses not only on the celebration of the achievements and challenges of JME but also the process of the growth of the JME from a local journal, national, and then to be a reputable international journal.First, as a local journal, JME started with only five articles in the first volume. Luckily, an international expert in mathematics education wrote and published their ideas.   Lee Peng Yee, a professor at the National Institute of Education (NIE) Singapore, wrote an article about how to design a mathematics curriculum. Also, Professor Sembiring, from the Institut Teknologi Bandung, wrote about the history of Realistic Mathematics Education in Indonesia. Later on, many authors from various countries published their papers in the next volumes. Some of the well-known researchers in mathematics education have contributed to the JME, such as Professor Berinderjeet Kaur from Singapore; Kaye Stacey, Bardini, and Tom Lowrie from Australia; Christa Kaune and Elmar Cohort from Germany; Edyta Nowinska from Poland; Koeno Gravemeijer, Maarten Dolk, Dolly and Frans van Gallen from the Netherlands. The other authors are from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Turkey, Ghana, United States, and Taiwan. Second, the JME is nationally accredited by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education since September 2015. A year before, the Directory Open Access Journal (DOAJ) and ERIC databases started to index the articles from the JME.Finally, after waiting for 20 months since the application submitted, the JME is accepted for the Scopus inclusion since September 2018, addressing the JME as one of the reputable international journals from Indonesia. After another three months, Elsevier agreed to cover all articles since volume 9.1 in the Scopus database.  In this celebration moment, as the editor in chief, I would like to say thank you very much to all local staffs, managing editors, reviewers, as well as editorial board members either from abroad or Indonesia who have done excellent work in making JME well known and internationally recognized. Starting from January 2019, JME publishes three editions on each volume.Finally, in the future, JME has an effort to improve the quality of publication both management and the content of the articles.  Also, JME has a task to fulfil the requirements to be indexed in the Web of Science. Of course, this is not an easy task, especially for JME team.

Abstract

Contrast to the shared task at the beginning of mathematics lesson, jumping task is the central part of the teaching that uses higher order thinking skills (HOTs) in Japan. In Indonesia, the curriculum 2013 revised stress on how to use HOTs in the mathematics lesson, the daily life context, and collaborative learning. The goal of this research to know the characteristics of the jumping task which valid, practical and useful supporting primary school students learning percents. This research uses design research as a method. In designing the content materials and their contexts, this research uses PMRI (Indonesian version of Realistic Mathematics Education instructional theory. Moreover, in the designing and implementing learning process, this research use lesson study for learning community (LSLC). Results of this research are valid and practical jumping tasks on mathematics topic percents. Students with low performance have difficulties in solving jumping tasks. However, with collaborative learning, students can answer the percent jumping tasks.
