Abstract

Child counseling is an attempt to assist children individually for guiding and helping them directly so that they can open them up and develop to be a sound person psychologically, personally and spiritually. The personal approach is required so that children to be open and understand their life experiences in order that they may find joy and develop their confidence. In addition to personal approach, some works to foster their self-confidence and joy are carried out by doing their daily duties and responsibilities, developing talents and providing adequate spiritual support. This social service attempts to provide both personal and group assistance so that the orphanage children can grow optimally and can prepare their better future.

Abstract

This article analyzes the encounter story of Paul and Lydia (Acts 16:13-15) as a concrete example of the practice of reciprocal gift exchange. The exchange of “gifts” between the two took place when Paul preached the Christian faith and baptized Lydia, and she reciprocated by giving Paul a ride. This study employs a social science approach by taking a repertoire of gift exchanges from the ancient Greco-Roman world to be applied to this story, and biblical studies for interpretation. From the repertoire of exchanges available, we chose χάρις to apply to this story. The concept of χάρις reflects a reciprocal exchange that involves two actions at once, namely the giving of a “gift” and the receiving of it with gratitude in return. The reciprocal gift exchange between Paul and Lydia shows that a gift demands a response (reciprocity). However, the reciprocal exchange between the two was not exploitative, as it took place within the framework of Christ’s χάρις. Through the gift of Christ’s χάρις, they concretely share χάρις with one another. In this context, Paul and Lydia not only demonstrated their identity as followers of Christ but also strengthened their bonds as brothers and sisters. Kata-kata kunci: Paul, Lidya, χάρις, pertukaran timbal-balik, Kis 16: 13-15, budaya Yunani-Romawi

Abstract

In the context of pastoral care, the Church of the Archdiocese of Semarang has created a policy of establishing small base groups among the community. Each parish in the Semarang Archdiocese is subdivided into sub-groups, which are then referred to as kring or lingkungan. The existence of ‘lingkungan’ certainly cannot be separated from the pastoral initiative of the missionaries at the beginning of the mission Church in Java Island. The missionaries, who were very limited in terms of numbers and services, were greatly helped by the presence of Catholic teachers who were present in remote villages and involved in preaching the Gospel for the community. In this study, the authors attempt to see the relevance of the life of the local Church community and the ideal of the Early Church as depicted in Acts 2:41-47. The situation of the early community lived in a basic group that was diligent in prayer and togetherness, was seen as an ideal model to be achieved through Church life in an based group of ‘lingkungan’.

Abstract

The scapegoating ritual in Leviticus 16 is central to ancient Jewish religion as part of the Yom Kippur celebration. The sacrifice of a scapegoat thrown into the desert is a unique ritual because it only appears in Leviticus 16 of the entire biblical text, and the only story that uses an animal to take away all the sins of the Israelites. The issue that will be discussed in this study is to find the origins and meaning of this ritual. From the historical criticism interpretation approach to the text of Leviticus 16:20-22, it can be concluded that the meaning of this ritual can be used as a warning (threat) for the Israelites, in which expulsion/exile is a real possibility if they live in sin, and also as a means (ceremony) to reconcile God and man.

Abstract

Thomas is one of the disciples of Jesus who has a special role in the Gospel of John to convey the message of faith. There are four scenes in the Gospel of John that show the dynamic and developing character of Thomas' faith (11:16, 14:5, 20:24-29, 21:2). He is known for his initial doubting character and then the development of his faith culminates in his recognition of Jesus' personal identity, “My Lord and my God!”. This study will use text analysis with a narrative method that focuses on the character theory developed by Cornelis Bennema. The new contribution of this research paper is in the analysis of character, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, character roles and character development of Thomas' following Christ. Thomas' confrontational experience with the other disciples and his demand for proof of Jesus' resurrection helped develop his character from a skeptic to a full believer

Abstract

This study aims to explore the theological meaning of the phrase ἐν Χριστῷ (“in Christ”) in 1 Corinthians 4:6–21 as the foundation of Paul’s spirituality and leadership. Employing a historical-critical approach and lexical analysis, it investigates the intimate relationship between Paul and Christ and its implications for the Corinthian community. The findings reveal that Paul’s spiritual experience in Damascus signified a life transformation and unity with Christ, which shaped his leadership style and teaching pattern. The phrase ἐν Χριστῷ is understood not merely as a theological concept but as a practical principle underlying Paul’s humble, participatory, and unifying leadership. In the context of a divided Corinthian church, leadership “in Christ” emerges as a pastoral model that educates and unites through apostolic example. This study concludes that the spirituality of ἐν Χριστῷ provides the foundation for forming a faith community living in unity with Christ and with one another and offers an ecclesial leadership model grounded in love, humility, and exemplary service.

Abstract

This research paper about Onesimus attempts to analyze the letter of Philemon by employing historical-critical methods, especially approaching the problem of Onesimus in the context of Roman Slavery in the first century. The approach highlights the status of Onesimus as a slave who runs away from his master, Philemon. According to Roman Law, Onesimus must be punished for his position as a fugitive. In his letter, Paul desires to solve the problem between the slave and his master in the context of a Christian relationship. He beseeches Philemon to accept Onesimus back, not as a slave but as a brother in Christ. In the Greco-Roman community, Paul teaches the community to get one another as brothers and sisters because of their baptism. Although the members have different social statuses, including slave and master, Jewish and Greek, man and woman, all of them are united in the same faith in Christ. Paul’s letter to Philemon becomes a pastoral encouragement emphasizing love as the foundation for Christian life and strengthening the community to forgive and accept one another.
