Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know: (1)Whether or not there was some influence of emotional intelligence to students’ achievement in Mathematics. (2)  Whether or not there was some influence of emotional intelligence students’ attitude in Mathematics. This research is a quantitative Pre-Experiment Design. It was implemented to the second semester students of the academic year 2013/2014 of St. Thomas Aquino Senior High School Tulungagung with the class X as population. While, the sample of this research was the student of the class XE with Expository Learning. To obtain the sample, this research applied cluster random sampling technique. The techniques of data collection used were test with achievement test in Mathematics instrument and non test techniques with Emotional Intelligence questionnaire and students’ attitude in Mathematics questionnaire instruments. The achievement test was used to know the students’ achievement in Mathematics, while Emotional intelligence questionnaire was used to know the level of the students’ Emotional Intelligence, and students’ attitude in Mathematics questionnaire was used to know students’ attitude in Mathematics. The instruments were validated before trial. The result of research showed that (1) there was no influence of Emotional Intelligence to students’ achievement in Mathematics and (2) there was influence of Emotional Intelligence to students’ attitude in Mathematics.

Abstract

This research aims to determine (1) whether or not there is some difference of the students’ activation between groups of students who are taught by the conventional learning and the students’ activation of groups of students who are taught by the problem based learning, (2) whether or not there is some difference of the students’ mathematics studying achievement between groups of students who are taught by the conventional learning and the students’ mathematics studying achievement of groups of students who are taught by the problem based learning. This research is a quantitative Pre-Experimental Designs. It was implemented to the second semester students of the academic year 2014/2015 of Junior High School 4 Madiun with the class VII as population. While, the sample of this research was the students of the class VII J as control class using conventional learning, then class VII H as an experimental class using problem based learning The techniques of data collection used were test and non test (observation). The instrument used in the test was studying achievement test and observation sheet of students’ activation. Test instrument was validated and tested to determine the reliability. Based on the hypothesis’ test obtained: (1) there is no difference of the students’ activation between groups of students who are taught by the conventional learning and groups of students who are taught by the problem based learning. (2) there is some difference of the students’ mathematics studying achievement between groups of students who are taught by the conventional learning and groups of students who are taught by the problem based learning. Keywords: Problem Based Learning, Students’ Activation, Students’ Mathematics Studying Achievement.

Abstract

This research aims to determine: whether there is a difference in students' critical thinking skills that are taught math using Problem Based Learning (PBM) with the Open-Ended Problem approach and the students’ critical thinking abilityof mathematics which are taught using conventional learning. This research is quantitative. The research was conducted in the second semester of academic year 2014/2015 in SMPN 6 Madiun with a population of class VII. While the sample is VIIH classes are taught using Problem Based Learning (PBM) with the approach of the Open-Ended Problems and VIIG classes are taught using conventional learning. Data collection techniques using the test method. The sampling technique in this study using cluster random sampling. The instruments used in the test method is a test of critical thinking skills. Critical thinking skills math test used to determine students' critical thinking skills in solving mathematical problems. The research instrument is a matter of critical thinking skills test is validated before tested. Based test for normality and homogeneity tests showed that samples of normal distribution and variants from the population with homogeneous, then the statistical test followed by t test. The result showed that there were differences in the ability of critical thinking math students taught using Problem Based Learning (PBM) with the approach of the Open-Ended Problem math and critical thinking skills of students who are taught using conventional learning. Keywords: Problem Based Learning (PBM) with the approach of the Open-Ended Problem math, conventional learning, critical thinking skills math.
