Abstract

Chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis are vulnerable to fluid overload due to impaired renal excretion and dietary nonadherence. This cross sectional correlational study examined the relationship between fluid restriction adherence and sodium intake with fluid overload among one hundred chronic kidney disease patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital Semarang during September to October 2025. Data were collected using a modified End Stage Renal Disease Adherence Questionnaire, a semi quantitative food frequency questionnaire, and interdialytic weight gain measurements. Chi Square analysis demonstrated a significant association between fluid restriction adherence and fluid overload, as well as between sodium intake and fluid overload, with p values below 0.05. Patients who adhered to fluid restriction and reported infrequent sodium intake predominantly experienced mild fluid overload, whereas nonadherent patients and those with frequent sodium intake showed higher proportions of severe overload. These findings indicate that behavioral dietary factors play a critical role in determining hydration status among hemodialysis patients. Strengthening patient education, family involvement, and nursing based dietary management remains essential.

Abstract

Patients with Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) frequently experience sleep quality disturbances due to dyspnea, anxiety, and physical discomfort, which may worsen their physical and psychological conditions. One non-pharmacological intervention that may improve sleep quality is Al-Qur’an murottal therapy, as it provides relaxation and calming effects. This study aimed to determine the effect of Al-Qur’an murottal therapy on sleep quality in CHF patients. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a one group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 17 respondents were selected using purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. Sleep quality was measured using the Richards-Campbell Sleep Questionnaire (RCSQ). Al-Qur’an murottal therapy was administered for 15–20 minutes once daily for two consecutive days. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that before the intervention, most respondents had poor sleep quality (58.8%). After the intervention, the majority of respondents experienced improved sleep quality, with 88.2% categorized as having good sleep quality. The Wilcoxon test revealed a p-value < 0.05, indicating a statistically significant difference in sleep quality before and after the intervention.

Abstract

This study examined the effect of a combined aromatherapy and guided imagery intervention on sleep quality among patients with coronary heart disease. A quasi-experimental one group pretest–posttest design was conducted in a cardiac care setting with eighteen participants selected using purposive sampling. Sleep quality was measured using a standardized instrument before and after the intervention. Data analysis employed the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test due to non-normal data distribution. The results demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in sleep quality following the intervention, indicating that the combination therapy effectively enhanced patients’ sleep patterns. Aromatherapy lavender contributed to autonomic relaxation, while guided imagery facilitated psychological calmness and emotional regulation, producing a synergistic effect. These findings align with previous evidence supporting complementary nursing interventions for cardiovascular patients. Improved sleep quality may support cardiovascular stability and overall recovery. The study concludes that combining aromatherapy and guided imagery represents a safe, feasible, and effective nonpharmacological nursing intervention to improve sleep quality in coronary heart disease patients and may be integrated into holistic nursing care practice settings

Abstract

Vertigo is frequently accompanied by headache that disrupts comfort and daily function, thus requiring effective nonpharmacological interventions. This study aimed to determine the effect of a combined therapy of Brandt-Daroff exercises and peppermint aromatherapy on headache pain intensity among vertigo patients. A pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was applied with 14 hospitalized patients as respondents. Headache intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. Prior to treatment, most participants experienced moderate pain (64.3%), while 28.6% reported severe pain and 7.1% reported very severe pain. After the intervention, pain distribution shifted markedly, with 85.7% experiencing mild pain and 14.3% reporting no pain. Wilcoxon signed-rank test revealed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (Z = -3.316; p = 0.001). These findings indicate that the combined Brandt-Daroff and peppermint aromatherapy intervention effectively reduces headache pain intensity in vertigo patients and may be recommended as a complementary nursing intervention to improve patient comfort and symptom control.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic condition that requires continuous self-care management to prevent complications and maintain glycemic control. However, self-care performance is not solely determined by physical factors, but also influenced by psychological aspects, particularly self-efficacy and stress level. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between self-efficacy and stress level with self-care management among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. A quantitative cross-sectional design was applied at Guntur 1 Public Health Center from September 16 to October 14, 2025. The study involved 120 patients selected using total sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires, including the Diabetes Management Self-Efficacy Scale (DMSES), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), and Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire (DSMQ). Data analysis was conducted using Gamma correlation with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results indicated a significant relationship between self-efficacy and self-care management (p = 0.006; r = 0.576). Stress level also showed a significant and strong relationship with self-care management (p = 0.001; r = 0.725). Strengthening self-efficacy and stress management should be prioritized in nursing interventions to support sustainable diabetes self-care behaviors.
