Abstract

This study examines how recurring human-centered metaphors construct Indonesia’s diplomatic identity and represent the country as a political actor in the international speeches of President Prabowo Subianto. Drawing on Critical Metaphor Analysis (CMA) and the Metaphor Identification Procedure (MIP), the study analyzes sixteen English-language speeches delivered during the first year of Prabowo’s presidency. Metaphorical expressions were identified through systematic linguistic analysis and subsequently interpreted through conceptual mapping and critical explanation. The findings reveal two dominant metaphorical patterns: interpersonal relationship metaphors and human body metaphors. Indonesia and its international partners are frequently represented as “friends,” “brothers,” and members of a “human family,” while global issues and national characteristics are framed through expressions such as “lungs of the earth,” “embedded in our DNA,” and “welcome with open arms.” These metaphors portray Indonesia as cooperative, inclusive, globally engaged, and environmentally responsible. At the ideological level, they function to promote solidarity, legitimacy, and mutual cooperation while simultaneously obscuring strategic interests, power asymmetries, and geopolitical tensions. The study demonstrates that human-centered metaphors serve not only as cognitive and rhetorical devices but also as ideological resources for constructing national identity and shaping international perceptions. By highlighting the role of metaphor in diplomatic communication, this research contributes to the fields of metaphor studies, political discourse analysis, and international political communication.

Abstract

This article is based on a Community Service conducted in Samarang Village, Samarang District, Garut Regency in June 2026. This village is known as one of the center of traditional bamboo weaving, a craft that has been preserved to the present day, featuring signature products such as boboko (rice baskets), tolombong (deep baskets), nyiru (winnowing trays), aseupan (steaming cones), as well as other household and agricultural tools. This activity aims to document the cultural and economic potential of the weaving craft, identify the challenges faced by artisans in the field, and formulate practical recommendations that can be implemented collaboratively. The methods employed include direct observation of the production process, in-depth interviews, and participatory discussions. The results indicate that while Samarang Village's bamboo crafts possess high quality and cultural value, they face threats from declining demand due to competition from modern products, limited product innovation and marketing capacity, and a lack of interest among the younger generation to continue the tradition. This activity is expected to serve as a foundation for artisans and relevant stakeholders in developing strategic measures for cultural preservation and local economic empowerment. Keywords: Resource Potential; Cultural Preservation; Bamboo Craft; Samarang Garut Village; Local Economy.

Abstract

Business naming constitutes a vital component in the entrepreneurial landscape, particularly within the highly competitive culinary sector. An appropriate and culturally resonant business name not only conveys the identity of a product but also communicates embedded values, meanings, and cultural familiarity to target consumers. In Cikajang Village, Garut Regency, the majority of culinary micro-entrepreneurs are housewives operating small-scale enterprises with limited access to marketing knowledge and branding strategies. Despite facing economic challenges and possessing low purchasing power, these women exhibit strong motivation and commitment to advancing their businesses. This community engagement initiative was designed to provide capacity-building through a culturally grounded training program on culinary business naming, drawing from Sundanese cultural values. The training was conducted over a one-month period using a participatory approach involving lectures, group discussions, and practical workshops. Participants were guided to formulate business names that reflect key Sundanese cultural principles such as kinship, hospitality, and authenticity of taste. In addition, they were introduced to basic promotional strategies including word-of-mouth marketing, elementary social media engagement, and the design of product labels. The results indicate that most participants were able to produce distinctive and culturally anchored business names, and began applying the promotional tools introduced during the training. This initiative not only enhanced awareness of branding’s significance in micro-enterprises but also demonstrated the effectiveness of a culturally sensitive approach to empowering women entrepreneurs. It is anticipated that this model may be replicated and adapted for the sustainable development of traditional MSMEs in other culturally rich rural settings.

Abstract

We are currently in a period that is highly influenced by digital technology. This digital transformation is radically changing the industrial structure due to the spread of technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, virtual reality, augmented reality and others. Among these industries, tourism is one that occupies an important position in accelerating digital transformation. This development has spread to the villages. This community service program (PPM) “Unpad Bermanfaat” aims to support the digitalization process as a means of promoting the advancement of cultural tourism in Nagarawangi Village, Rancakalong District, Sumedang Regency. Problems that arise in this process include costs, human resources and the readiness of the authorities to make it happen. By applying the ABCD method initiated by John McKnight and Jody Kretzman which focuses on assets in the field, this program conducted surveys, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), digital optimization training, and digital marketing training. The results of this activity showed increased awareness and enthusiasm of village communities and SMEs to utilize digital platforms for promoting tourism potential and local products. The main tourism potential identified is cultural tourism, particularly the Tarawangsa traditional art in Kampung Adat Cijere, which has attracted international tourists. However, digital promotion is still limited, requiring strategic digitalization that is cost-effective and optimizes existing community resources.
