Abstract

Severe dengue or Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) occurrence in Palangka Raya frequently becomes epidemic. The morbidity rate (incidence rate) of DHF cases in Central Kalimantan in 2016 reached 69.1 per 100,000 population with the mortality rate (fatality rate) of 1.4%. The morbidity rate reached 278.4 per 100,000 population in Palangka Raya, the second place after North Barito regency. Based on the Ministry of Health Republic of Indonesia’s Strategic Planning (Renstra), targets for dengue fever in 2016 should be <49 per 100,000 population, Central Kalimantan Province has not achieved the target yet. The Central Kalimantan Provincial Health Office reported the epidemy of DHF in 2017 occurred in the working area of Menteng Community Health Center. The report found a case that all family members of a household suffered from DHF. This community service aimed to educate the community to survey of dengue larvae independently, to develop the community’s knowledge and awareness about the importance of support from larvae monitoring speculator Juru Pemantau Jentik (also briefly known as Jumantik) and to increase community participation in DHF prevention movement in Palangka Raya. The method of this community service used site survey, observation, interview, larva examination and reporting of results. The survey activity of larvae showed that Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae were identified in 13.3% of the houses, mostly found in bathtubs, water shelters and water container of water dispensers.

Abstract

Household Health Survey on 2013 shows that 60% children’s disease in Palangka Raya continue to increase especially related to clean and healthy behavior. Islamic Primary School (MI) Hidayatul Insan Palangka Raya is one of primary education institution in Palangka Raya at risk of disease transmission. It is because the school has not implement clean and healthy behavior in the school environtment optimally. Clean and healthy behavior development and accompaniment in MI Hidayatul Insan Palangka Raya aimed to provide assistance to the school in planning clean and healthy behavior policy, supporting infrastructure preparation, education, observation and evaluation of clean and healthy behavior implementation. The method of the communty service involved preparation, implementation and evaluation. The output of the community service were the school has implemented clean and healthy behavior; clean and healthy school environtment; increasing student achievement; and increasing public interest to send their children to the school.

Abstract

Waste pickers are the riskiest group for diseases transmission through waste. Waste pickers have no sufficient knowledge about Personal Protective Equipment usage at work. Likewise, several waste pickers at Temporary Shelters located in Kelurahan Bukit Tunggal, Jekan Raya, Palangka Raya, Indonesia. This community service aimed to provide education and training about the reduction of disease transmission risks through waste at Temporary Shelters. These activities involved field surveys, interviews, education and outreach, training and demonstrations, and distribution of Personal Protective Equipment for waste pickers. The solution offered to solve the problems is to educate on disease transmission risks through waste, education, training and demonstration of PPE usage at work, and distribution of Personal Protective Equipment for waste pickers. The community service for 27 waste pickers in several TPS located in Bukit Tunggal was well implemented. The survey result shows the level of usage of Personal Protective Equipment on waste pickers, which is Not Wear 36.25%, Use Non-Routine 16.03% and Use Routine 47.5%. This series of activities can improve the scavenger's insights into the dangers and prevention of transmitting disease through waste.

Abstract

Waste pickers are the riskiest group for disease transmission through waste, so have Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is needed as a tool used by workers to protect themselves against potential dangers and work accidents. Although there are no definitive data on the existence of accidents or occupational diseases in TPS or TPA, the risk of health problems or the spread of disease due to exposure to various types of waste is very possible. Likewise with the waste pickers who are in the Temporary Shelter (TPS) in the Kelurahan Langkai City of Palangka Raya. The purpose of community service activities is to assist in the application of PPE by providing education and socialization about the possibility of potential hazards and workplace accidents as garbage collectors and the risk of exposure to diseases that can be transmitted through waste, training, and demonstrations about the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when work and hand over a set of PPE tools to the scavengers. Community service activities carried out on 39 waste pickers in several TPS located in Kelurahan langkai city of Palangka Raya

Abstract

Market traders are the people most at risk of being infected with Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19). Transaction activities in the market between sellers and buyers are high, so awareness is very important to implement the COVID-19 preventive health protocol recommended by the government. The target of this activity is traders in the Pasar Besar City of Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan. The purpose of this activity is to increase knowledge and awareness in implementing health protocols in the market in order to accelerate the prevention of handling COVID-19. The method of this activity is by conducting surveys through questionnaires, providing education and training/demonstrations in implementing health protocols in the market, and distributing leaflets, masks, and hand sanitizers. This community service activity focuses on education, socialization, and training/demonstration of the application of health protocols in the market for 72 traders in the market, which includes: (1) wearing masks; (2) perform hand hygiene; (3) avoiding touching the face area, (4) applying proper etiquette coughing or sneezing; and (5) maintaining a distance (at least 1 meter) from other buyers/traders.
