Abstract

BACKGROUNDHuman infertiliy cases in Indonesia have tended to increase at about 2-5%annually since 2000. Many tropical plants in Indonesia are potential sources of novel anti-infertility compounds, e.g. Dendrophthoe pentandra L. Miq. (benalu duku), a parasitic plant growing on Lansium domesticum. The objective of this study was to identify the effect of crude methanolic Dendrophthoe pentandra leaf extract on follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and progesterone levels in female rats.METHODSFourteen Rattus norvegicus Wistar strain female rats were divided into anintervention group and a control group, and synchronized to estrus via thepheromone synchronizing method. The intervention group was given daily single intramuscular injections of crude methanolic Dendrophthoe pentandra leaf extract at 100 mg/kgBW for 4 days, while the control group was given daily single intramuscular injections of 1 mL of distilled water. Determination of FSH and progesterone levels in whole blood was done using the Randox Evidence Investigator analyzer. The data were subjected to the t test for two independent samples.RESULTSMean FSH in the intervention group was 9.28 ± 6.72 mIU/mL, which was lower than mean FSH of 24.80 ±16.35 mIU/mL in controls (p<0.05). Mean progesterone level in the intervention group was 33.55±13.96 nmol/L, twice as high as that in the control group, which was 18.47± 06.47 nmol/L (p<0.05).CONCLUSIONSCrude methanolic Dendrophthoe pentandra leaf extract reduces FSH andincreases progesterone levels in female rats, but cannot yet be recommended for use as fertility hormone inhibitor or stimulator in rats.

Abstract

Background: Patient non-adherence to diabetes medication can worsen the patient's condition and increase the risk of diabetes complications such as diabetic ulcers. A sufficient level of medication adherence can prevent diabetic complications. This study aimed to determine the level of medication adherence of type 2 DM patients with diabetic ulcers. Review: This research uses a systematic literature review with a PRISMA chart as a research design guideline. Researchers searched three databases, namely PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect, using predefined keywords. The search resulted in 2,763 literatures then 11 literatures that met the criteria were taken. The number of respondents obtained amounted to 1,082 people. Characteristics of type 2 DM patients with diabetic ulcers: respondents were female, aged under 60 years, had diabetes for more than five years, used oral medication, insulin, or combination, could have normal or excess BMI, and possibly had hypertension or neuropathy. The result from systematic literature review obtained seven pieces of literature that had a low medication adherence level, two pieces of literature showed no correlation between medication adherence and the incidence of diabetic ulcers in type 2 DM patients, and two pieces of literature had a sufficient level of medication adherence. Summary: The level of medication adherence in type 2 DM patients with diabetic ulcers varies. However, more literature contains results in low medication adherence of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients with diabetic ulcers, so it needs to be improved in the future. Keywords: diabetic ulcer, medication adherence, type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract

One of the infrastructure development programs that has been launched by the Government of West Java Province is to develop the Kertajati area into an airport and aero-city area. The construction of Kertajati International Airport will trigger a very big change for the community. This study is important to do, bearing in mind that the successful development of Kertajati International Airport has a major impact on human life and the environment. This research uses a qualitative approach. The method used in this research is media analysis and literature study. Data collection techniques used are derived from primary data in the form of observations of phenomena that occur and secondary data in the form of valid documentation. Identification of the negative impacts of the conversion of agricultural land into Kertajati Airport from environmental aspects including the availability of water for agricultural land and noise. Agricultural land directly adjacent to the location of Kertajati International Airport is experiencing problems related to the disruption of waterways and water sources. Transfer of the function of agricultural land to Kertajati International Airport resulted in a decrease in environmental quality, so the impact on air pollution and quality for agriculture is worse. Noise is the most negative impact felt by people who live close to Kertajati International Airport. In the development of Kertajati International Airport, the state must provide opportunities for the collective citizens to participate in the processes of making public policies both ecocentrism and anthroprtrism (eco-democracy). Do not let the construction of Kertajati International Airport cause natural disasters, climate change, air pollution, and environmental destruction. The construction of the Kertajati International Airport must not be ecosentrism in nature, where the natural environment is maximally utilized to cause a crisis.
