Abstract

Abstract

Corn is a food ingredient that contains carotenoids that are very potential in preventing cancer, adding endurance, as antivirals, fungi, and parasites, carotenoids are also good for vision, growth and reproduction. The highest carotenoid compound in corn is lutein which has potential as an immunomodulator. Honey is also immunomodulatory by triggering macrophages to produce cytokines involved in killing bacteria and tissue repair. The combination of corn and honey in one drink will produce a health supplement preparation that contains antioxidants and immunomodulators that are good for health. The goal of this study was to get the best formula of instant granules physically. Instant granules are made from corn kernels that have been dried with a combination of honey which is processed by dry granulation with variations of corn kernels FI & FIV (15%), FII & FV (25%), FIII & FVI (35%), and FI & FIV honey (35%), FII & FV (25%), FIII & FVI (15%). Instant granules are conducted physical test evaluations including organoleptic tests, flow time, angle of repose, compressibility index, time of granules to dissolve, particle distribution, pH, viscosity of reconstituted and RDA test. The results showed that the granule flow time, angle of repose, compressibility index, time of granules to dissolve, granules particle distribution and viscosity of reconstituted overall physical testing showed no noticeable differences, except against the most preferred taste parameters FVI. So the best formulation has obtained is FVI and shows the result of the RDA test with total energy of 350 kcal/100 grams.

Abstract

Basil leaves  (Ocimum sanctum L.) and honey contain flavonoids and polyphenol compounds such as methyl eugenol, which are known to have antioxidant activity. Liquid soap is a form of pharmaceutical product that is often used to cleanse the body and provide additional protection to the skin. Objective: The aim of this study was to obtain the best physical formulation of a liquid soap combination of basil leaf extract and honey and its antioxidant activity. Method: Liquid soap preparations were made by adding basil leaf extract with various concentrations of 2g (FI), 4g (FII) and 8g (FIII) and honey, namely 5g (FI), 5g (FII) and 5g (FIII). Evaluation of liquid soap preparations included organoleptic, pH, and homogenity, as well as antioxidant activity test using the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method with a wavelength of 516 nm. Results: The results showed that Formula III (FIII) had the best results, namely organoleptic milk chocolate color, pH preparation (9.71-9.89), homogeneous preparation, stable preparation in storage for 12 days and showed the best IC50 value of 118.39 ppm. Conclusion: In conclusion, the combination of basil leaf extract and honey can be formulated as a liquid soap preparation with a concentration of 8g basil leaf extract and 5g honey in formula III (FIII) showing the effectiveness as the best formulation.

Abstract

Nutraceutical drinks are increasingly being chosen by the public as alternative medicine or as supportive therapy for disease prevention, offering minimal side effects with long-term use. This trend has gained momentum, mainly due to the rising incidence of COVID-19 and the emergence of highly transmissible variants. The combination of red ginger, lime juice, and honey will produce a healthy drink preparation containing antioxidants with vitamin C levels as an immune booster. This study aims to formulate a nutraceutical drink made from red ginger ((Zingiber officinale var. rubrum) combined with lime (Citrus aurantifolia) and honey also determine the antioxidant activity and the highest vitamin C levels. Physical stability tests include organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, specific gravity, viscosity, and accelerated stability tests using freeze-thaw cycling method. The antioxidant activity test using DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method and analysis of vitamin C levels using the UV-Vis spectrophotometry method. The formulation was made with variations of lime juice FI (1%), FII (2%), and FIII (4%). The results of physical stability of the three formulations are not much different but based on organoleptic, FI has the best taste which is not too spicy and we are sure that most people will like it. Meanwhile, the highest antioxidant activity was possessed by FIII with an IC50 value of 11.21 ppm, which is classified as very strong and has the highest vitamin C content of 9103.88 µg/mL.

Abstract

Saga leaf (Abrus precatorius L.) have tannins, saponins, alkaloids, and flavonoids that have functions as antioxidants. The plant belongs to the Fabaceae family and is widespread in the tropics and subtropics. Syrup is one form of pharmaceutical preparation used in providing drugs in liquid form so that it is easily drunk by patients, especially children. The purpose of this study was to obtain the best syrup preparation formulation physically and its antioxidant activity. Saga leaf are extracted in ethanol and then syrup preparations by adding saga leaf extract with concentration variations of 0.5% (FI), 1% (FII), and 2% (FIII). Evaluation of syrup preparations includes organoleptic, pH, homogeneity, and antioxidant activity test using DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) measured by UV-Vis spectrophotometer at wavelength 516 nm. The results showed that Formula III had the best results, namely clear dark brown organoleptic, slightly viscous shape, distinctive smell and slightly bitter taste, pH 6.15, homogeneous, and the preparation was stable in storage for 12 days and showed the best IC50 value of 116.94 g/mL compared to FI (132.65 g/mL) and FII (118.03 g/mL). The antioxidant activity of saga leaf extract is categorized as moderate. In conclusion, saga leaf can be formulated as a syrup preparation with an extract concentration of 2% in formula III showing effectiveness as the best IC50 value of 116.94 g/mL and the best formulation.
