Abstract

Abstract

The gospel is a message of good news that originates with God and is directed toward his glory. Paul warned the Galatians in Galatians 1:6–9 not to trust in the false gospel in order to save them from destruction. What false gospel is that, and what is its difference from the true Gospel, he questioned after stating the fundamental issue? The purpose of this study is to clarify the differences between the true and false gospels (Gal. 3:1). The method of research used is exegesis, which involves analyzing text through its syntax and semantics. The results of the author's research that the fake Bible is a false gospel is a gospel that turns away from grace, is human - centered (v. 6-7), and is cursed (v. 8-9). However, the true gospel is one that is based on grace in order to please God and lead to salvation through faith.

Abstract

The most important things about this paper are that Christians find perfection in the spiritual world, by being saved immediately and for all time through Christ. The exercise of silence and hesychia is the way to achieve perfection, and it can be applied to us nowadays. The goal of this article is to discover Apophthegmata Patrum in terms of the answers given in the sayings of the Desert Fathers. Silence and hesychia are crucial elements of monastic life, as are the elements of spiritual perfection such as the purification of sins, or logismoi, the renunciation of the world, or repose, listening to and loving God, and discovering the Kingdom of God within the heart. The practice of silence for us living nowadays is to build our spiritual cell in the silence and repose of this busy world. The cell is the first step toward silence, followed by the hesychia.

Abstract

According to Idealistic and Materialistic Opinions, body and spirit are diametrically opposed. The body is the visible physical component of a person, while the soul is the invisible, inner component. While the soul is an essential component of all living things, the body is a connection of substances that serves as the unique basis of the physical body capable of life. According to Maximos, the divine capacity correlates with God becoming human through his love for humans. This study aims to show how the virtues of the human body and soul can approach divinity. This research work uses literature review as its methodology, with the book "Philokalia" as its main source of information. Based on this, the writer tries to engage with the writings of the church fathers in their books, journals and writings. According to research findings, firstly, people have physical and spiritual dimensions. Second, the virtue shown by the soul is higher than that shown by the body. Third, when humans act rightly then humans will become divine like Christ. Based on these three ideas, humans will seek to organize their bodies and souls to direct them in acting morally towards the oneness of God, or Theosis.

Abstract

Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode studi pustaka dengan dua buku sebagai sumber primer yaitu buku “Aphrahat the Persian Sage and the Temple of God A Study of Early Syriac Theological Anthropology” dan buku “Semitic Christianity St. Aphrahat  the Sages of Babylonian Talmud”.

Abstract

The virtue of humility, as espoused by both Old Testament prophets and Jesus in the New Testament, is not merely a commendable personal quality; rather, it can be experienced as a profound spiritual state. St. Isaac the Syrian articulates three key concepts of humility that elucidate its connection to spiritual experience, which are applicable to both laypersons and church leaders. Firstly, humility enables the individual to be adopted by God as His child, thereby suggesting that humans, through humility, can participate in the divine nature when united with God in eternity. Secondly, humility functions as a conduit for the perfection of the soul. Those who achieve spiritual perfection do so through the virtue of humility, which shapes their attitude towards worldly pleasures and desires, aligning them more closely with the love of God and the pursuit of eternal values. Finally, humility is a crucial element in the process of repentance. Genuine repentance, characterised by the acknowledgement and remorse of one's sins, is grounded in humility. This humility cultivates a profound sense of gratitude for God's grace and mercy, enabling individuals to recognise their vulnerabilities and seek divine guidance. Consequently, humility not only facilitates personal spiritual growth but also reinforces one's relationship with God.

Abstract

This article is the result of research from the gospel of Luke 13:6-9. In this study, the author finds a spiritual meaning contained in it, which then raises the theme, namely about an opportunity to grow and bear fruit that comes from a helper bringing life according to the gospel of Luke 13:6-9. The method used is the method of parable exegesis using parable analysis. In the discussion, the fig tree that does not bear fruit and only has leaves is a picture of every human life who sometimes lives like believers because of the spiritual activities they show in public. However, in reality it is just an image. They are not people who really believe because they do not produce actions as the fruit of true faith. God as the owner of the vineyard, was finally angry to find humans who behaved like that. So that in the end God brought His punishment to humans. Jesus Christ, who was the gardener, finally intervened to defend the fruitless fig tree by asking God for mercy. For that, everyone responds to the mercy of Christ in his life by turning to God and being fruitful in Christ.

Abstract

The existence of an infinite God turns out to give birth to many debates and even misunderstandings, both from theologians and non-theologians. In this case, God who is outside of time, as well as within time is considered absurd. This is a paradox that will continue to be debated from time to time in all circles. Therefore, the author is interested in looking at this issue from the Church Fathers' perspective of God being Transcendent/outside of time, and Immanent/in (material) time. This article will give an overview of how to understand the Transcendent God through the Material?
