Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government through the Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan (Minister of Education and Culture) instructed all educational institutions to carry out distance learning. The purpose of this study was to determine the efforts of the Islamic Pendidikan Agama Islam teacher in implementing distance learning. The method approach used is qualitative. The results of field research indicate that Islamic Religious Education teachers have difficulty implementing learning, because educational institutions are not ready to support the distance learning process. Learning is done through a social media software application, because it is easy to use and all parents of students must have it. The teacher conveys the learning content then students respond by sending the results of assignments based on Student Worksheets via social media.

Abstract

This research aims to examine whether there is a difference in learning outcomes between two groups of Madrasah Aliyah students. The first group consists of students not involved in Mobile Gaming, while the second group comprises students actively engaged in Mobile Gaming. The research method employed is quantitative research, with data collection conducted through a survey of 302 students in the twelfth grade of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 Tulungagung. The survey results indicate that 60.59%, or 183 students, belong to the group that does not play Mobile Gaming, while 39.4%, or 119 students, are Mobile Gaming players. The average learning outcomes of both student groups were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test to assess the differences between them. The Mann-Whitney U test results show that the learning outcomes of students in the group not playing Mobile Gaming are higher, although the difference is not significant (median=92.18), compared to the group of students playing Mobile Gaming (median=91.75), U=13132.5, p=0.002. The Hodges-Lehmann estimate of 0.5 supports the Mann-Whitney U test results, indicating a small median difference between the two student groups. Despite the observed difference, the small effect size is indicated by the rank biserial correlation value ra=0.206. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is no significant difference in learning outcomes between the two student groups, those who play Mobile Gaming and those who do not.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of mobile gaming on Islamic Religious Education (Indonesian: PAI) learning outcomes using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Conducted at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 Tulungagung, the research utilized surveys and documentation for data collection. Analysis, carried out with JASP software, began with Explanatory Factor Analysis (EFA) to uncover data structures, followed by Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to validate these structures. The findings indicate that excessive mobile gaming negatively affects PAI learning outcomes, whereas positive perceptions of gaming are associated with improved academic performance. The SEM analysis reveals intricate relationships among gaming activity, student perceptions, and learning outcomes, suggesting that while gaming can boost engagement, it may also hinder academic focus if not managed appropriately. The study further explores how motivation and engagement with specific game genres—such as MOBA, Battle Royale, and RPG—might differentially influence PAI learning outcomes. However, the current SEM analysis does not directly address these genre-specific effects, highlighting the need for additional research. In conclusion, the study emphasizes the necessity of balanced integration of mobile gaming in educational contexts and provides practical recommendations for educators and policymakers to navigate these challenges effectively.

Abstract

The digital transformation of education in Indonesia has accelerated significantly, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic. National initiatives like Merdeka Belajar have emphasized digital integration in teaching and learning, prompting scholarly interest in e-learning, online pedagogy, and technology-enhanced instruction. Despite this growing body of literature, there remains a lack of systematic analysis regarding how this research has evolved, which themes have dominated, and how collaboration networks have developed. This study aims to map the research landscape of digital education in Indonesia by conducting a bibliometric analysis of Scopus-indexed journal articles published between January, 1, 2012 and May, 31, 2025. Using the Biblioshiny interface of the R-based Bibliometrix package, 1,131 articles were analyzed to examine publication trends, thematic patterns, prominent keywords, top contributing authors and institutions, and the evolution of co-authorship networks. The results show a notable increase in publication volume beginning in 2020, coinciding with the national shift to online learning. Key research themes include "e-learning", "online learning", and "blended learning", while emerging topics such as "digital literacy", "gamification", and "student engagement" reflect new pedagogical directions. Leading institutions include Universitas Negeri Malang, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, and Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, with collaboration patterns showing modest but growing international engagement. This study offers a comprehensive overview of how digital transformation has been addressed in Indonesian educational research and provides insights into its future trajectory. The findings serve as a reference for researchers, educators, and policymakers in identifying research gaps and shaping strategic directions for digital education.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) plays a crucial role in shaping students' understanding and practice of Islamic values. However, conventional teaching methods that rely on memorization and lectures often hinder active student engagement. Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) is considered a promising model to enhance the effectiveness of PAI by connecting Islamic concepts to real-world experiences. Although CTL has been implemented across various subjects, its application in PAI faces distinct challenges in different educational settings. This study aims to analyze the challenges and solutions of implementing CTL in PAI at two Islamic schools with different backgrounds: MTs Al Anwar (a pesantran/Islamic boarding school) and SMP Al Jihad North Jakarta (a metropolitan Islamic school). A qualitative approach with a comparative case study method was employed, involving interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that at the pesantren, the primary challenges are the dominance of rote memorization methods, a lack of case study-based teaching materials, and a lecture-based approach that does not support experiential learning. Meanwhile, at the metropolitan school, the main obstacles include student distractions from social media, a lack of critical thinking skills, and a curriculum that remains exam-oriented. To overcome these barriers, teachers at the pesantren have begun to develop experience-based teaching materials and incorporate more discussions. This study confirms that the successful implementation of CTL in PAI depends on adapting teaching strategies to the specific learning environment. Therefore, a more flexible curriculum, case study-based teaching materials, and teacher training are essential to support experience-based learning.
