This study describes tolerance among religious communities and intolerant behavior in students. It also tests the hypothesis of whether there is a significant influence between fostering tolerance among religious communities and heterogeneous student behavior in the formal educational institutions in Gorontalo City. The study used quantitative research with a correlation method through a simple regression. Data were collected using a closed questionnaire, which involved 67 students. This study showed that there is a significant influence between fostering religious tolerance and intolerant behavior of students. This influence is shown by the regression coefficient number of F-count 115.577 with a significance level of 5% (F-table = 3.99). Besides, the value of determination (R Square) = 0,640 illustrates that tolerance among religious communities has a high effect on the tolerance behavior of students. Thus, it can be stated that 64% of the students’ tolerance behavior is affected by the religious communities’ tolerance, and the rest (36%) is influenced by other factors.

This study aims to develop Hybrid Learning based on the Computer Assisted Test (CAT) application in the Arabic Proficiency Test (APT) program.The method used was Research and Development with the ADDIE instructional design model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate), with development stages (concept, design, material collecting, assembly, testing and distribution). The results showed that the development of Hybrid Learning based on CAT application can be used in the Arabic Proficiency Test (APT) program which contains three language competency tests, (istima, tarakib and Qira’ah) and fulfills several aspects; 1) Self Instructional, 2) Self Instructional, 3) Self Contained, 4) Standalone, 5) User Friendly, and 6) Adaptive to technological developments. The results of the CAT-APT application trial in a limited group obtained a score of 80 (good) to 88 (very good), in the media validation test the score was 80 (good) to 86 (very good), the programming validation test and a score of 80 (good) to 88 (very good), while in the testing on the tester, the pretest score had not yet reached the advanced level, while in the posttest there were 9 testers who reached the advanced score.

Numerous factors influence students' learning outcomes. Among them is the teaches' use of high-quality instructional materials. Essentially, teachers provide materials to assist students in comprehending the material on a subject to reach the goal properly. When teaching English to nursing students, materials should be based on the students' unique needs, which are addressed in English for Specific Purposes (ESP). This research aimed to describe nursing students' needs for English Instructional Material in University context. This study employed mix method. The data collection techniques used were document, interview, and questionnaire. The document analysis revealed that the learning materials did not meet the needs of nursing students seeking to advance their careers. Additionally, the questionnaire and interview analysis results demonstrate the critical nature of developing English teaching materials for nursing students. As a result, English teaching materials for nursing students are needed to assist them in mastering the English language skills necessary to support their professional careers.t their professional carrier.

Language is a core of communication and in pragmatics, it is analyzing the information about the development of language and knowledge of language in general and it is related with human language and its context. Pragmatics is concerned with the study of meaning that communicated with the speaker and interpreted by a listener. Context also holds the important rules and cannot be separated in learning pragmatics itself. Therefore, to learn and understand the meaning and it’s context of spoken between speaker and hearer in an utterance, then learning the speech act and it’s parts is one of the important things. This research discusses the use of illocutionary acts in “Wonder” movie. The focus analysis on this research is not only on the main character but on the whole conversation from each character at the movie by classified it into five types by using John Searle’s (1975) theory. The data of illocutionary that appears on Wonder movie is analyzed by using the context situations to find out the flow of each utterance from the speaker and listener. Researcher used the Pragmatic Approach and speech act theory to find out the types of illocutionary act contained in Wonder movie. And, from the result of this analysis, it was found that there are 5 types of illocutionary acts that classified by Searle (1975) in Wonder movie, that known as Representatives or Assertive, Directives, Comissives, Expressive and Declaration. The research aims to find out lexical and contextual meaning in the lyrics of Maroon 5 songs. This research chose five songs from Maroon 5; titled Maps, Leaving California, In Your Pocket, New Love, and Sugar. The research method used descriptive qualitative. The focus of this research is describing the context found lexical and contextual meaning theory by Mansoer Pateda to conduct this research. The step to obtain the data is collecting source of the data from Maroon 5 songs taken from the internet. After that, the writers select, read and listen the songs which contain lexical and contextual meaning the content of the songs. As a result of this research, it found 34 dates with lexical and contextual meanings. The result of this research is a complex romantic love story, or the bitter sweetness of a relationship of happiness, betrayal, struggle, and even loss.Keywords: semantic, lexical meaning, contextual meaning, songs, Maroon 5

AbstractAnalysis of Racism in “12 Years A Slave” Movie Directed By Steve Mcqueen. Racism mostly still happens in many countries, especially the country with a lot of majorities and minority groups with very strict differences in characteristics such as in the United States of America or other European countries. This action is depicted very clearly in racism in 12 years movie. The study aims to analyze racism in 12 years movie directed by Steve Mcqueen. The method used is descriptive qualitative. The result of the study shows that racial prejudice that occurs in 12 Years a Slave Movie happened in the four social aspects of social structure, there are in the aspect of economic life, political and legal process, and in educational aspect. This study also reveals that the novel also reflects the racial prejudice in its social aspects of social structure in Southern America in the 1950s.Keywords: racism, discrimination, characters

AbstractThis study aims to analysis the id, ego and superego of the main character in each short story. In conducting this research, researchers used a qualitative descriptive method. Researchers used documentation as a data collection technique. All the data needed related to this study were collected by taking several steps, namely the researcher chose 5 short stories by James Joyce, then the researcher collected literary references related to the psychological approach. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that from the five short stories by James Joyce that have been selected by the researcher, there are id, ego and super ego of each main character in each short story.Keywords: Short Story, Psychoanalysis, Dubliners.

The main objective of this community service activity is to increase the knowledge and understanding of the Dumati village community in general about the importance of English language in relation to managing tourist objects. The future of the world tourism industry has such a bright prospect as stated by the World Tourism Organization (WTO), even the world tourism organization estimates that tourism will grow with an average growth of 4.2% per year. One of the regions that will experience the greatest growth rates are countries in Asia, including Indonesia. Of course, it is very important for the parties to receive foreign language assistance to the community in implementing the concept of tourism for the realization of sustainable tourism. And how to do it so that tourists do not experience language barriers so that sustainable tourism can be realized. The current community service uses focus group discussion and in-depth interviews that aims to develop the community’s awareness toward the importance of English language mastery as the key factor for sustainable tourism in Gorontalo. This activity received a very good response and went well. Dumati village officials and the village community were very enthusiastic about participating in this seminar, it was seen from the many people who participated by asking questions and discussing the concept of English language that could be developed in the Embung Dumati tourism village. This community service is hoped to form basic information on how’s the community’s level of English and how to develop from there.

The aim of this research was to find out the students’ perceptions toward the lecturers’ strategies in teaching listening during pandemic of Covid-19. The research was conducted at English Literature Study Program, Faculty of Social Sciences, Muhammadiyah University of Gorontalo. There were 26 participants in this research who enrolled listening subject. This research used qualitative method and the data were collected by using questionnaire that was designed in Google Form which accomodates 2 aspects, materials and learning activities. The result of the research showed that most of students find difficulties in learning listening through online learning because they do not have high-speed internet to access the material. So, it affected the quality of listening audio-audiovisual because the materials were fully online accessed. But, the students also showed positive and well-motivated attitude during online learning in Listening Subject. Most of students revealed that the materials that the lecturer provided during the process of teaching and learning can significantly improve their understanding to the content of listening materials and also improve their listening skill.
