Abstract

This study describes tolerance among religious communities and intolerant behavior in students. It also tests the hypothesis of whether there is a significant influence between fostering tolerance among religious communities and heterogeneous student behavior in the formal educational institutions in Gorontalo City. The study used quantitative research with a correlation method through a simple regression. Data were collected using a closed questionnaire, which involved 67 students. This study showed that there is a significant influence between fostering religious tolerance and intolerant behavior of students. This influence is shown by the regression coefficient number of F-count 115.577 with a significance level of 5% (F-table = 3.99). Besides, the value of determination (R Square) = 0,640 illustrates that tolerance among religious communities has a high effect on the tolerance behavior of students. Thus, it can be stated that 64% of the students’ tolerance behavior is affected by the religious communities’ tolerance, and the rest (36%) is influenced by other factors.

Abstract

Pesantren, madrasas, and schools have changed dynamically in the last few decades in Indonesia. Dialogue, interaction, and interconnection occur dynamically between these three educational institutions in Indonesia. This study aims to explore the development of madrasas in response to changing world in the era of globalization. The study is qualitative in which data were collected through documentation studies, interviews, and observations. With descriptive-interpretive analysis, the study found that madrasas which are often claimed as underdeveloped institutions have been shown to be advanced educational institutions. Madrasas already have equality, even surpassing school educational institutions in Indonesia. The change and progress of these madrasas are achieved through implementing the pattern of pesantren as the basis of a learning system where all students are housed in a learning society, implementing a curriculum model that combines schools and pesantren, and applying a humanistic learning model in the educational process. Through these three aspects, madrasas can produce qualified graduates.

Abstract

The evolution of Islamic education in Indonesia marks a significant shift, with the proactive introduction of the Merdeka Curriculum fostering innovation. This curriculum grants educational institutions the power to tailor their programs to local needs, embodying a dynamic response to contemporary demands. Investigating its implementation at Pesantren Darul Qolam in Banten, this qualitative study involves interviews with Pesantren leaders, teachers, and students, complemented by observational analyses. The findings showcase Pesantren's successful integration of the Merdeka Curriculum, harmonizing it with the national curriculum and designing programs responsive to students' diverse needs. This research advocates for Pesantren institutions to adopt the Merdeka Curriculum, recognizing it as a catalyst for elevating the quality and relevance of Islamic education. Furthermore, it urges a thorough exploration of the curriculum's long-term effects within the Pesantren context and its potential applicability to other Islamic educational institutions. Emphasizing principles of freedom, autonomy in learning, multilingualism, and responsiveness to student needs, the study underscores the crucial role of educational innovation in Pesantren and beyond.
