Abstract

The main components of social media text are the language and network structure of users. Virtually, social media texts appear in the form of posts and comments. Therefore, social media texts have the characteristics of online conversation. So, online conversation analysis (OCA) is one of the important research methodologies for reviewing social media texts. This paper aims to provide a rationale, steps, and examples of online conversation analysis practices. The most important aspect of the conversation is conversational coherence, namely the connection and meaningfulness in conversation. However, asynchronous factors, information abundance and identity problems in social media texts make such analysis require a number of additional steps. The steps for analyzing online conversations include these aspects: turn taking structures, construction of exchanges, parts-alliances-talks, trouble and repair, preferences and accountability, institutional category and identity. Abstract

This research trying to analyze the meaning of symbols in the film Marlina The Murderer in Four Acts based on the indicators of gender equality namely, access, participation, control, and benefits. The unit of analysis in this study includes the audio and visual elements that exist in a selected scene for later analysis using the Roland Barthes semiotic method known as the "two order of signification" to find the meaning of denotation and connotation meanings and myths contained in both order systems. The whole series in this study refers to the framework of thinking with the aim of answering the formulation of the problem in research. From the results of the study, researchers found as many as 17 scenes containing the message of gender equality by including indicators of gender equality both in audio and visual elements. After going through the scene analysis process using the Roland Barthes semiotics method, control indicators in gender equality are found more prominently in films, then followed by indicators of access, participation, and benefits. This shows how the important role of control indicators in gender equality is applied so that other indicators can work. Keywords: Semiotic; film; gender equality; Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts

Abstract

The Covid-19 Infodemic is a massive flood of information, both accurate and inaccurate, making it difficult for people to find reliable sources and guidance when they need it to overcome Covid-19's disease. This paper seeks to read the reality of infodemic in Indonesia by processing and to restate and to interpret data from the Covid19 Infodemics Observatory project on the dynamics of Indonesian citizens' tweets concerning Covid-19 for the period January 21, 2020 - July 22, 2020. The data can be obtained freely on the https://covid19obs.fbk.eu/#/. The analysis shows that globally, from January 21 to July 22, 2020, there were more than 365 million tweets related to Covid-19. In Indonesia, the highest number of infodemic tweets produced was 114,000 tweets per day on March 15, 2020. Even so, only 608 tweets were confirmed as reliable facts, and 87 tweets were verified as unreliable facts. There are still too few tweets that are categorized as reliable facts, and there are still many that are classified as unreliable facts. It has led to the high Infodemic Risk Index in Indonesia, reaching the level of 0.77 from the scale of 0.00 - 1.00 on January 25, 2020. The large gap between the number of tweets and news reliability occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic from January to July 2020.

Abstract

Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on the island of Lombok was developed in 2014. One of its mega-projects is the construction of the International MotoGP Circuit, which has started to be used in November 2021. Ideally, residents around the SEZ will be the people who will benefit the most from the presence of this particular area. This goal can be reached if public information from the government regarding the project can be known and trusted by residents to increase their active participation in the future. This research was conducted in September 2020 to measure the perception of the quality of public information about the construction of the MotoGP circuit, which includes sources of information, the credibility of information, and readiness to participate in the development of the new economic and tourism center. The results showed that the primary sources of information for the community around the Mandalika SEZ area, namely four villages in the Pujut sub-district, were local community/religious leaders at 30%, social media (23%), mass media at 15%, local government 15%, and others (stories from neighbors, and 'do not know) as much as 13% and schools/campus (5%). On the information credibility, almost all respondents (82%) trust the information provided by the local government regarding the development of the Mandalika SEZ and the MotoGP circuit. Around 14% still feel doubtful, and 4% of respondents do not believe it. On the aspect of readiness to participate, half of the respondents expressed doubts (52%) that they could take a role and benefit from the presence and progress of the development of the Mandalika SEZ, especially the MotoGP circuit. As many as 18% said they were not sure. Meanwhile, those who feel confident are 22%, and 8% are very sure. The minimal role of the local government as a source of development public information has implications for the attitude of unpreparedness to participate by residents around the Mandalika SEZ.

Abstract

The journalist profession is one of the professions that are vulnerable to personal security and safety. In recent years, threats and attacks, even killing journalists, have increased, including in Sikka Regency. This community service aims to encourage the achievement of increasing the basic capacity of journalists, especially in building self-protection mechanisms on the Internet. The methods given are in the form of lectures, sharing experiences, simulations, practice, and discussions. This training was attended by 10 journalists in Sikka Regency. From this training, it is known that all training participants have experienced violence in carrying out their journalistic work, whether physical, verbal, psychosocial or digital violence. The perpetrators of this violence come from the government, the community, sources, fellow journalists, and even the media where journalists work. This is due to journalists' lack of understanding of security itself and is exacerbated by the absence of a Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) at work. This shows that journalists work without being equipped with self-protection capabilities and without protection from institutions. This training is important considering that press freedom is one of the benchmarks for the quality of democracy in a country. This training then initiated the formation of the Safe Sikka Journalist Group.
