Abstract

Activities around Bone River, one of the largest rivers in Gorontalo Province, include agriculture, settlement, gold mining, sand excavation, industry, and illegal logging. This research aimed to report the water quality status of Bone River using the STORET method as an index commonly used for measuring pollution levels in a water body, which the Indonesian government regulates, as stated in the Decree of the Minister of Environment, No. 115, 2003. This work involved data from 2021-2023 along the upstream to downstream of the river. There were 12 water quality parameters measured: temperature, TSS, DO, pH, COD, BOD, nitrate, phosphate, ammonia, and the heavy metals (Pb, Cd, and Hg) concentration. This study revealed that parameters met water quality standards for class I and class II: temperature, pH, DO, Pb, and Cd. The index scores ranged from -96 to 0. The upstream area was categorized as good, and the midstream to downstream was recognized as heavily polluted. This pollution level is dominated by organic waste from agricultural and domestic household activities. The concentration value consistently exceeds the quality standard in all data from St 5 to St 12. These two parameters are enough to significantly cause worsening water quality based on the STORET with a total score contribution of -40. BOD and COD parameters contribute the most to the river pollution level. Keywords:Water qualityPollutionSTORETBone River

Abstract

Environmental mitigation measures are being undertaken as a proactive approach to prevent the adverse consequences associated with Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs). Presently, there is a lack of comprehensive information regarding the occurrence of HABs in the waters surrounding Bintan Island, and routine monitoring to assess the potential for eutrophication is absent. This research should begin by gathering information about potential sources that contribute to the emergence of HABs, the specific types of algae with the capacity to trigger HABs The primary objective of this study is to identify the harmful algae species present in the coastal waters of Bintan Island. The research was conducted in August 2023, with the sampling process taking place at four specific locations within the coastal waters of Bintan Island. These sampling stations were selected deliberately to capture the varying activities predominant in each respective area. The microalgae found consisted of four groups, namely Bacillariophyta, Cyanophyta, Dinophyta, and Chlorophyta. Bacillariophyta is a group of microalgae with the highest abundance proportion at all observation stations. Harmfull Algae found in the coastal waters of Bintan Island generally come from the Dinophyta group of the types Ceratium sp., Peridinium sp., Prorocentrum sp., and Dinophysis sp. Harmful microalgae from the Dinophyta group were found at all research stations, with the highest proportion of abundance at Station 2 (6%) and the lowest at Station 3 (1%). The difference in these findings is thought to be due to the dynamics of the hydrosanographic parameters of the waters, especially nutrient concentrations. Keywords:BintanCeratiumDinophytaHarmfulMicroalgae

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the age group, growth, mortality, and yield per recruitment (Y/R) of Selar crumenophthalmus landed at Gorontalo City Tenda Fish Landing Base. A total of 1020 samples were collected randomly from fishermen who landed their catches at Tenda Fish Landing Base. The results of research based on sampling carried out twice a week from March to May 2023 showed that there were three age groups of S. crumenophthalmus. The percentages for age groups I, II, and III were 39.90%, 55.30%, and 4.30%, respectively. The asymptote length of the fish Lāˆž = 269.4 mm, the growth rate of the fish K = 0.55 and the theoretical age of the fish t0 = -0.1616 years. The natural mortality M = 0.48 was smaller than fishing mortality F = 0.85, total mortality Z = 1.33 per year, and total exploitation rate E = 0.64 per year. The Y/R value was 0.106 grams/recruitment with an exploitation rate of 0.608 per year.

Abstract
