Abstract

Abstract

Antioxidant is very important to keep human’s health because of its capability to reduce freeradical. Acetophenone and its derivates are reported as potential antioxidant. The aim of thisresearch was to find antioxidant activity of 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone compound synthesizedfrom resorcinol. The research was performed by synthesizing 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenon through Friedel-Crafts acylation from resorsinol. The structure of the compound was elucidated using gaschromatography, mass spectrometer, infrared spectrophotometer, and antioxidant test wasusing DPPH method. The results showed that product was succesfully synthesized. Yellowish-orange solid wasobtained from synthesis with 86,14% of yield and confirmed as 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone.The product showed weak antioxidant activity with 36,72 ppm of IC50

Abstract

Nutmeg were plants that used as material in food, medicine, perfume and cosmeticsindustries. Nutmeg essential oil contain 1,4-terpineol and safrol compounds that predected haveantibacterial activity.Sparation of 1,4-terpineol and safrol compound from nutmeg essential oil was carried outby fractional distillation method at 95 mmHg and 200- 225C֯. Analysis of nutmeg essential oil andsparation carried out by GC-MS and antibacterial activity tests with diffusion and dilution methods. The Analysis results showed that nutmeg seed essential oil contain 5 mayor compounds,α-pinena, sabinen, 2-β-pinen, terpineol and miristisin, the sparation result contain 40.05%1-4 and20.34% safrol. The diffusion test showed that 1.25% nutmeg seed essential oil have 12,11mminhibition zone that classified as strong inhibition, and the sparation result have 9,66mm inhibitorzone that classified as moderately inhibition. The dilution test result of nutmeg essential oil andthe separation result have activity for bactericidal has the same at consentration 1.25%.

Abstract

Isolation of essential oil from nutmeg mace by using water distillation method had been done. The content analysis of the nutmeg mace essential oil compound was done by using GC-MS. The analysis result shows that there are 4 dominant compounds they are α-pinene, sabinene, 2-β-pinen, and myristicin. The quality of nutmeg mace essential oil is seen from the ratio of oil resulted from isolation with the SNI standard. Nutmeg mace essential oil does not fulfill the SNI standard in term of specific weight. However, it contains a relatively high among of myristicin which is 30.82%. According to Agusta (2000), essential oil is a good antibacterial. The antibacterial activity test was done by using the dilution and diffusion method. The result of the dilution test could not conclude the value of KHM and KBM. The diffusion test result shows that nutmeg mace essential oil with 7.5% concentration is able to inhibit the growth of Stapylococus aureus with the average inhibition zone diameter of 9.25 mm. While on the Ecschericia coli bacteria, it has the average inhibition zone diameter of 7.375 mm.

Abstract

Papersoap is a thin printed solid soap product as a unique innovation because it resembles paper. Soursop leaves contain flavonoid compounds, tannins, alkaloids and saponins that are useful as antibacterial. preparations papersoap with soursop leaf extract require glycerin as a plasticizer is believed to produce good physicochemical properties. This study aims to determine the physical quality of papersoap from the effect of soursop leaf extract and variations of glycerin and to test the antibacterial activity of the Papersoap against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923.Soursop leaf extract was obtained by maceration method with 96% ethanol as solvent. The concentration of soursop leaf extract 5% was formulated into papersoap with three variations of glycerin formula, namely 10%, 15%, and 20%.preparation papersoap includes organoleptic, pH, homogeneity, foam stability, water content, and free alkali tests which have passed the curing for two weeks as the preparation evaluation stage. Antibacterial activity test against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 using well diffusion method. The data obtained were processed using Shapiro-wilk, one way ANOVA/Kruskal.The results showed that the formula of the papersoap preparation of soursop leaf ethanol extract (Annona muricata L.) with glycerin variations can provide differences in the physical quality of papersoap preparations and have an inhibitory diameter against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria ATCC 25923 successively 25.26; 24,67; 23.47 mm

Abstract

Excessive sun exposure is dangerous for humans because it has many detrimental effects on the eyes, immune system as well as on the skin. Sunscreen can prevent the harmful effects of UV radiation and free radicals. Flavonoid compounds in mangosteen rind have natural sunscreen activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical quality and stability and activity of the ethanol extract gel of mangosteen peel in vitro with variations of carbopol 940. The extract was obtained from the maceration process using 70% ethanol. The gel was formulated using 0.1% extract and 0.5% gelling agent variations; 1%; and 1.5%. Gel test parameters including organoleptic test, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, spreadability, adhesion stability test cycling test, and sunscreen gel activity test were carried out in vitro by measuring the value of Sun Protection Factor (SPF) using UV spectrophotometry. The results showed that the 0.1% mangosteen rind ethanol extract gel formulation with variations of the gelling agent carbopol 940 0.5;1 and 1.5% had good physical quality and stability as well as sunscreen activity with an SPF value of 41,099; 39,898; 39,270 with the ultra category.
