Abstract

Anxiety among healthcare workers in maternal and child health (MCH) services remains a significant concern, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where access to mental health interventions is limited. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the Anxiety Instructional Guide Apps (AIGA) as a digital solution to reduce anxiety and improve MCH service quality in Medan City, Indonesia. AIGA was developed using the system development life cycle (SDLC) with the waterfall model through stakeholder consultations, UI/UX design, and expert validation. The intervention was tested from May to July 2025 with 10 healthcare professionals (midwives, nurses, and doctors) in two hospitals selected through purposive sampling. Anxiety levels, measured using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), decreased significantly from a mean of 10.8 ± 1.85 to 5.5 ± 1.08 (mean difference = −5.3 ± 0.48, p < 0.001). User satisfaction was high, with content relevance (M = 4.80 ± 0.42), ease of use (M = 4.70 ± 0.48), and UI/UX design (M = 4.60 ± 0.52) receiving the highest scores. Expert validation gave perfect ratings for content accuracy and accessibility features (5.0 each) and high ratings for technical functionality, user interface, and cultural relevance (4.5 each). These findings indicate that AIGA is a feasible and effective digital intervention to reduce anxiety among healthcare workers in MCH services and has strong potential for integration into LMIC healthcare systems.

Abstract

Maternal mental health is a crucial determinant that influences the quality of pregnancy, childbirth, and child development. Nevertheless, many pregnant women remain vulnerable to anxiety, stress, and depression due to limited access to adequate information and health services. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Pregnancy Education Application with Mental Health Approach (PEA-MH) as a digital educational medium to support maternal mental health. A descriptive qualitative design with quantitative evaluation was employed, involving 25 pregnant women selected through purposive sampling in Tanjung Morawa District, North Sumatra. Data were collected through initial observations, a digital service effectiveness questionnaire, and semi-structured interviews. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis for qualitative findings and descriptive statistical analysis for quantitative data. The results indicated that PEA-MH was effective in increasing knowledge, reducing anxiety, and strengthening maternal readiness for childbirth, although challenges remained, particularly regarding limited interactive features and unstable internet connectivity. In conclusion, PEA-MH demonstrates potential as a digital health innovation to support maternal health services, with further recommendations directed toward enhancing interactivity, ensuring evidence-based content, and strengthening digital infrastructure for sustainable implementation.

Abstract

Infertility is a crucial issue in reproductive health, impacting not only an individual's quality of life but also social, psychological, and cultural implications. Low reproductive health literacy in Indonesia, particularly in rural areas, poses a serious challenge in addressing this issue. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of digital technology utilization through the Reproductive Health Digital Platform (RHDP) in improving reproductive health literacy in the Stabat District community, with a focus on infertility. A. total of 20 participants were involved in this study, selected using purposive sampling to ensure relevance to the research focus. The research method used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions (FGDs), supported by secondary data from official documents and scientific literature.. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model with triangulation of methods and sources to maintain validity. The results show that the RHDP platform is effective in improving the quality of digital reproductive health services based on Pedrosa's eight effectiveness indicators. The dimensions with the highest scores are user trust in data security and information credibility, while the aspect with a relatively low score is system consistency across devices. These findings confirm that digital transformation plays a crucial role in expanding access and literacy in reproductive health, but strengthening infrastructure, regulations, and complaint management features is still needed to support service sustainability.
