Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of students’ understanding of the proper and correct use of the Indonesian language, particularly in diction selection in writing short story synopses. The study aimed to describe the forms of language errors found in the short story synopses written by fifth-semester students of Class A in the Indonesian Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Borneo Tarakan. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method with a content analysis approach and a case study research design. The research data consisted of language errors found in students’ short story synopses, while the data source was the synopsis texts written by the fifth-semester students of Class A. Data validation techniques were carried out through triangulation and informant review, and the data were analyzed using an interactive analysis model that included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study showed that there were 26 language errors in the students’ short story synopses, consisting of 15 errors in the use of affixes, 9 diction selection errors, and 2 errors in the use of letters. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that errors in the use of affixes were the most dominant type of error found in the students’ short story synopses.

Abstract

Game online merupakan tidak hanya sebagai hiburan tetapi juga dapat memberikan tantangan yang menarik. Disisi lain, pemain tidak memperdulikan waktu demi mencapai kepuasan dari permainan yang dimainkan. Permasalahan yang terdapat pada siswa di SMP Muhammadiyah 1 dibandingkan aktifitas belajar sehingga ketika guru menjelaskan siswa tidak memperhatikan atau sulit berkonsentrasi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dampak game online yang terdapat pada siswa di SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Tarakan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu observasi partisipan dan wawancara tidak terstruktur adapun teknik pengambilan subjek menggunakan purpossive sampling. Berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan di SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Tarakan, diperoleh hasil bahwa siswa memiliki perilaku yang terdampak oleh game online dengan subjek 5 siswa mulai dari mengikuti game online yang memiliki konten kekerasan, memiliki nilai tidak bermoral, dan juga dapat merugikan kesehatan. Selain itu, siswa memiliki perilaku negative dari game online mulai dari munculnya perilaku agresif pada siswa yaitu subjek memukul teman, bullying secara verbal dimana subjek yang lain mengumpat kata-kata kasar pada saat jam pelajaran ataupun istirahat berlangsung dikarenakan tersinggung oleh temannya atau dalam keadaan sengaja maupun tidak disengaja.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the construction of meaning in poems written by eighth-grade students of Madrasah Hurrasul Aqidah Tarakan using Michael Riffaterre’s literary semiotic approach. The analysis focuses on the mechanisms of indirect expression, including displacement of meaning, distortion of meaning, and creation of meaning, as well as the process of meaning-making through heuristic and hermeneutic readings. In addition, the study explores the relationship between the meanings conveyed in the poems and the coastal cultural context of North Kalimantan, which forms part of the students’ social and cultural environment. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method with a field research design. Data were collected through poetry-writing tasks, observations, and documentation, and were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that students construct meaning in their poems through the use of symbols, metaphors, and poetic expressions that represent emotional experiences such as struggle, longing, exhaustion, and hope. Displacement of meaning is reflected in the use of symbols that represent particular feelings and life experiences. Distortion of meaning appears in linguistic expressions that deviate from literal logic, thereby enhancing the aesthetic effect of the poems. Meanwhile, the creation of meaning is realized through repetition and the interconnectedness of meanings across lines and stanzas. The study also indicates the presence of North Kalimantan coastal cultural elements, represented through images of the sea, fishermen’s lives, and coastal environments. However, these local cultural aspects are not yet dominant, as most poems primarily focus on the students’ personal experiences. Therefore, Riffaterre’s semiotic theory proves relevant for uncovering meaning in students’ poetry and provides a foundation for developing literary learning that integrates aesthetic experience with local wisdom.
