Abstract

Writing might be difficult for some people (Alwasilah, 2007). Some students can speak English fluently and confidently, although since they have difficulties in conveying their ideas in writing. Thus, it needs the effective and efficient model of teaching to improve the teaching learning process. Synectic model of teaching is a model applied to enhance students’ ability to write. This model combines various forms of metaphoric thinking to see old ideas in different ways. In this research, the researcher used audiovisual media to support learning. The purpose of this research is to find out students’ improvement in writing descriptive texts using synectic model of teaching. The sample of the research was 36 students of class IXD in MTsN 2 Pontianak. The research was Classroom Action Research using Kemmis and MC Taggart model with two cycles. The result shows that there is improvement in students writing skill. The mean score of pre-test is 56.01, posttest 1 is 66.5, and posttest 2 is 87.46. It means the application of synectic model of teaching using audiovisual media is able to increase students’ ability in writing descriptive text.

Abstract

Abstrak: Phonetics (fonetik) merupakan mata kuliah yang sulit dikuasai oleh mahasiswa. Perbedaan bunyi dalam bahasa Inggris dengan bahasa Indonesia menjadi tantangan yang harus dihadapi oleh mahasiswa. Banyaknya bunyi yang harus diingat oleh mahasiswa juga menjadi penghambat keberhasilan pembelajaran fonetik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kebutuhan mahasiswa pada pembelajaran fonetik yang akan digunakan dalam pengembangan media ajar fonetik. Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa program studi bahasa Inggris. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Alat pengumpul data yaitu menggunakan kuesioner. Data diklasifikasikan untuk mendeskripsikan kebutuhan mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran fonetik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengajaran fonetik di kelas selama ini kurang maksimal dalam penggunaan media ajar. Mahasiswa sulit untuk mengingat dan memahami place and manner of articulation serta fonem. Mahasiswa membutuhkan media pembelajaran untuk membantu dalam belajar fonetik. Hasil penelitian ini selanjutnya akan digunakan untuk acuan pada penelitian pengembangan media ajar fonetik untuk mahasiswa bahasa Inggris.Abstract: Phonetics is a difficult subject for students to be mastered. The difference of sounds between English and Indonesia is one of the difficulties faced by students. The number of sounds that students must remember also becomes an obstacle for learning phonetics. This research aimed to describe the students’ needs in learning, then the data will be used to develop the teaching media in Phonetics. The subject of this research was the students of English program. The method used was descriptive qualitative. The data was collected using questionnaire then it were classified in order to describe the needs of students in learning phonetics. The result showed that the media used in teaching learning teaching phonetics did not fulfil the students’ need. The students were difficult to remember and understand the place and manner of articulations and phonemes. The students need the specific teaching media in learning phonetics. The result of this study will be used as reference in depeloving phonetics teaching media for English students.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menciptakan produk berupa media pembelajaran yang berbentuk permainan yang disebut dengan Kartu Perawat (KaPe). Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Research and Development yang mencangkup tahap need analisis, desain produk, evaluasi produk, dan ujicoba. Subyek pada penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XII SMK Kesehatan Cahaya Bangsa, Kubu Raya. Sementara itu, instrument penelitian yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data meliputi lembar observasi, kusioner, wawancara,angket validasi media dan materi dan angket validasi respon siswa terhadap ujicoba produk. Hasil yang ditemukan pada penelitian adalah media permainan Kartu Perawat( KaPe) yang dikembangkan dengan pendekatan Content Based Instruction telah layak dan efektif untuk digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk SMK Keperawatan. Beberapa keunggulan dari produk ini adalah memberikan kesempatan kepada siswa untuk mengembangkan kemampuan berbicara, membaca, dan menyimak secara terintegrasi; meningkatkan minat siswa dalam belajar bahasa inggris; memberikan kesempatan untuk siswa berkolaborasi karena dimainkan dalam kelompok; memberikan situasi atau konteks bagaimana bahasa itu digunakan pada penggunaan sesungguhnya serta memberikan kesempatan kepada siswa untuk berinteraksi secara autentik sehingga memudahkan siswa untuk mengakusisi bahasa. Namun, guru perlu mengalokasikan waktu dan memastikan agar siswa tetap dapat terkontrol ketika pembelajaran berlangsung melalui permainan.

Abstract

Abstrak Tujuan penelitian adalah mengembangkan kartu bangun ruang berbasis augmented reality (AR). Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian dan pengembangan model ADDIE yang terdiri dari analisis, desain, pengembangan, penerapan, dan evaluasi. Produk divalidasi oleh empat orang ahli yang terdiri dari dua orang ahli materi dan dua orang ahli media. Uji coba produk dilakukan pada 28 siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 5 Pontianak. Alat pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah angket yang terdiri dari angket kelayakan, kepraktisan, dan keefektifan media. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kartu bangun ruang berbasis AR layak digunakan berdasarkan hasil uji kelayakan dari ahli media dan materi serta praktis dan efektif berdasarkan hasil uji coba. Berdasarkan hasil uji kelayakan, kepraktisan, dan keefektifan, disimpulkan bahwa kartu bangun ruang berbasis AR layak, praktis, dan efektif untuk disebarluaskan.  AbstractThe research aimed to develop an augmented reality (AR)-based spatial card. The research method used the ADDIE research and development model which consists of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The product was validated by four experts consisting of two material experts and two media experts. Product trials were conducted on 28 grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 5 Pontianak. The data collection tool used a questionnaire consisting of a feasibility, practicality, and media effectiveness questionnaire. The results of the research showed that AR-based spatial cards were feasible to use based on the results of due diligence from media and material experts and practical and effective based on the results of the trials. Based on the results of the feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness tests, it was concluded that AR-based spatial cards were feasible, practical, and effective for dissemination.

Abstract

This study was conducted to improve the students’ writing skill through mind mapping technique of the eleventh graders at MA Al-Fatwa. As stated in statement of research problem ‘’ How can students’ writing skill of descriptive text be improved through mind mapping technique’’ Furthermore, this study employed a Classroom Action Research method. This research was conducted based on Kemmis & Mc Taggert, (1988) model, there are; planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research was also carried out in two cycles. In data collecting, the researcher used three kind of instruments, there were; test, questionnaire and observation checklist. The result of the research on the cycle 1 showed that the average scores on students’ writing skills were 70. On other hand, the average scores on students’ writing skills were still below the KKM, it is 75. The result on students’ writing skill on the cycle 2 were 78.18. While, there were 27.2% of students who did not pass the KKM. It was also proved by the result on students’ perception and students’ behavioral changes during classroom process. The students got joyful classroom atmosphere during the lesson. It can be assumed that students’ writing skill can be improved through mind mapping technique

Abstract

Menciptakan suasana pembelajaran yang menyenangkan penting untuk dilakukan oleh guru. Guru matematika atau guru pelajaran lain diharapkan dapat mengembangkan ide-ide untuk memotivasi siswa dengan kegiatan yang menyenangkan. Permasalahan yang terjadi adalah pembelajaran matematika yang kurang menyenangkan sehingga perlu adanya strategi guru untuk membuat siswa menjadi tidak bosan dalam belajar matematika. Strategi yang dapat dilakukan adalah menerapkan joyful learning. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat di lakukan secara online dengan webinar karena dilaksanakan pada masa pandemi covid yang tidak memperbolehkan adanya kegiatan dengan banyak orang. Kegiatan webinar joyful learning in mathematics ditujukan kepada Guru dan Calon Guru (Mahasiswa Keguruan). Anggota Pergunu dan Guru SMA Al Ishlah yang menjadi mitra kerja sama juga menjadi sasaran webinar ini. Pada pelaksanaan kegiatan ini terdapat tiga materi yang disampaikan, yaitu media pembelajaran joyful learning in mathematics, kopermatik, dan belajar matematika asyik dan menyenangkan.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out attitude assessments carried out by English subject teachers at West Pontianak Private Senior High Schools and to find out difficulties faced by English language teachers in developing attitude assessments at West Pontianak Private Senior High Schools. This research method used a qualitative descriptive approach. The research subjects were English Subject Teachers, with Classroom Teachers of class X and Counseling Guidance Teachers as support. Data collection techniques were interviews and documentation. The results of this study indicated that 12 teacher used observation techniques which include the assessment of spiritual attitudes and assessment of social attitudes in carrying out the assessment of student attitudes during the online learning period. There were 3 difficulties experienced by the teachers (1) There is no direct interaction (face to face) between educators and students (2) Not all students have android phones as a means of supporting the continuity of online learning (3) Difficulty in developing attitude assessment criteria, namely the responsibility of students to the tasks given by the teacher, discipline will collect assignments on time and obey school rules, namely by not leaving class (absence).

Abstract

The role of media in the learning process is crucial, serving as a key component for effective communication between teachers and students. Without media, this communication process would be hindered, leading to ineffective learning outcomes. To assess the effectiveness of teachers' creativity in utilizing instructional media, it is essential to consider students' perceptions and observations. This study aimed to analyze students' perceptions of the media employed by English teachers at SMP Al-faqihil Muqaddam. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive methodology, the researcher investigated students' responses to the instructional media through observation and interviews. The findings revealed that the media utilized by English teachers included a whiteboard, English book, dictionary, laptop, LCD projector, and speaker. The students' interviews yielded predominantly positive perceptions of the media used in the teaching and learning process. According to the students, the use of media resulted in increased engagement, excitement, and active participation in learning English. They found the materials easier to comprehend, improved their pronunciation and vocabulary, generated new ideas, and felt empowered to express their opinions. Furthermore, they appreciated the practicality of applying what they learned in their daily lives. In conclusion, this research sheds light on the importance of utilizing various media in English language instruction and highlights the positive impact it has on students' learning experiences. By understanding students' perceptions, educators can tailor their instructional approaches to enhance engagement and comprehension, ultimately fostering a more effective learning environment.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the difficulties faced by students in understanding English dialogue and the factors that influence it. In the context of language learning, listening skills have a crucial role because they affect students' ability to speak and interact. Qualitative descriptive methods are used to explain these phenomena, by collecting data through questionnaires to analyze students' answers. The results of the study showed that 84.3% of students experienced major difficulties in identifying the content of the message. Lack of vocabulary mastery, inability to guess words in the recording, and the length of the message conveyed are the main factors. In addition, 71.8% of students had difficulties with speakers. Some of the problems encountered include the inability to listen without pictures or videos, the speaker's speaking speed being too high, and the variety of accents in the recording. From these results, it can be concluded that good listening skills are an important foundation in language learning. Therefore, there is a need for a learning strategy that is more focused on vocabulary development and understanding of various accents in the context of dialogue. This can help improve students' knowledge and respond to English conversations more effectively. The conclusion can be the basis for developing a more effective learning program in improving students' listening skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the reading skills of students in the early grades of SDN 13 Sungai Pinyuh. This study focuses on the description of students' reading skills in the early grades which refers to how to measure students' reading skills in the early grades using an instrument called EGRA (Early Grade Reading Assessment). The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data source used is the primary data source that has passed the EGRA test. The data collection technique used was the EGRA test. The instrument used is the EGRA test. The data analysis technique used is non-statistical analysis by looking for percentages, then the results are described. Checking the validity of the data findings used is by using the EGRA test which has been proven valid to collect the initial data obtained which is then strengthened by recording student scores from the test results. Based on the results of the research that the researchers have done, the results of students' reading skills in the early grades of SDN 13 Sungai Pinyuh used the EGRA test, namely, 1) aspects of recognizing letters, obtaining an average score of 98.1% and an average score of 100% percentage of success, 2) aspects of reading meaningful words, obtaining an average score of 86.5% and an average percentage score of 89%, 3) aspects of reading meaningless words, obtaining an average score of 80.5% and the average percentage score of success is 89%, 4) aspects of aloud reading fluency and reading comprehension, obtaining an average percentage score of 56% and an average percentage success score of 81.4%. 5) aspects of listening (listening comprehension), obtaining an average percentage score of 70% and an average success percentage score of 92.5%.
