Abstract

Quality optimization of cooking oil color is done by performing experiment using samples of 98 gram cooking oil and 2 gram of whitening agent, i.e. bleaching earth and carbon active. There are three variables that affects the cooking oil color, i.e. temperature (X1) in the range of 90 to 110° C, stirring time of 10 to 20 minutes, and active carbon concentration (X3) of 5 to 15% (of the 2 gram of whitening agent). Response Surface Method consists of two-experiment designs, the first order and the second order experiment designs. The first order experiment design is the factor screening stage, while the second order design is the optimization stage. The first order experiment shew that only stirring time and the concentration of active carbon affects the color. The second order experiment resulted in that the appropriate optimization model is Y = 1,7833 + 0,0538 X2 0,1098 X3 + 0,0477 X2 X3 + e, and that there are three choices of optimal factor condition with regards of the whitening agent cost.

Abstract

Remanufacturing has become more prominent as a recovery process to mitigate the massive disposal of short life-cycle product at its end-of-use. However, remanufactured product is often perceived to be inferior to new product, and it has lower value in consumer’s willingness to pay. To increase the perceived quality of the remanufactured product, manufacturer offers a warranty, since one of the three roles possessed in warranty is being a signal to product reliability. This paper studies the pricing decisions and warranty level decision for new and remanufactured products in a closed-loop supply chain consists of a manufacturer and a retailer. The optimization modeling is performed under Stackelberg game with manufacturer as the leader. We found that higher expansion effectiveness coefficient would increase the supply chain profit. Also, there is an interval of demand’s speed of change, where the total profit would be at its highest. The optimum warranty level can be achieved regardless the initial warranty level set at the beginning of retailer’s optimization. Furthermore, the remanufactured product’s wholesale and retail prices are influenced by the expansion effectiveness coefficient.

Abstract

The use of mobile phone has increased at a surprisingly high rate over these two decades.  For many people, especially young generations, mobile phone has even become a primary need. As a consequence, the production of mobile phone has increased significantly and followed immediately by the disposal, as a result of its short life-cycle nature. Recently, there are substantial initiatives proposed in order to mitigate the effect of e-waste to the environment. Remanufacturing is one of recovery processes that could extend product’s useful life, and provide a circular life-cycle instead of linear. However, there are many factors that can affect the success of remanufacturing engagement, and specifically remanufacturability of a mobile phone. There are numerous considerations of remanufacturability with regards to the short life-cycle nature of mobile phone, and these factors can be qualitative or quantitative, with conflicting potentials, and some of them may be uncertain. In this study, we use Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) approach to identify the interrelationship among the factors, and analyze those results to identify the prominent factors. Furthermore, an influential-relation map is provided to support visualization for managerial implications.

Abstract

In the recent decades, closed-loop supply chain has been studied extensively due to the increased concern on sustainable development. It integrates forward and reverse flows where the collaborative supply chain takes place. Knowledge management is one important part of an organization that can improve the effectiveness of the processes within the organization. Knowledge sharing is significant in a collaborative supply chain since it affects the organizational performance and competitive advantage. The complexity in closed-loop supply chain can be managed better by encouraging knowledge sharing among the supply chain members. This paper presents a conceptual framework to implement knowledge sharing in a closed-loop supply chain management, for improving the CLSC members’ performance. The success factors have been identified, and a framework has been presented, it consists of knowledge flows, management aspect and socio-technical aspect.

Abstract

This paper proposed a smartphone donation to help Indonesian students in remote areas and students who needed help, such as students in orphanages in Indonesia, using the technopreneurship approach. The technopreneurship steps that we used in this study started with collecting data through a questionnaire to know the willingness of Indonesians to donate and their preferences in donating their used smartphones. We found that 78.7% of the respondents are eager to donate, and they trust the social, educational, and religious institutions as trusted, credible institutions as places for collecting used smartphones. However, online channels are more convenient for them to donate, followed by donations through religious institutions such as mosques, churches, viharas, and temples. As a result, a business model canvas and a business process are constructed to answer the eagerness of Indonesians to donate their used smartphones.

Abstract

Closed-loop supply chain has gained a significant attention during the recent decades since there is an increased awareness toward sustainable development. However, the implementation of closed-loop supply chain is confronted with numerous barriers and challenges due to uncertainties in input as well as in process. In contrast to manufacturing process where the input is mostly homogeneous raw material, the reverse chains input comes from products end-of-use or end-of-life; therefore the timing, quality and quantity are uncertain. The recovery process also brings other challenges due to various quality grades of the product returns and various recovery options. On the other hand, information technology has been studied extensively in relation to supply chain management. Most of the works show that the use of information technology could enhance supply chain performance. However, the study on the importance of information technology in closed-loop supply chain is still limited. In this paper, we discuss the role of information technology and then propose a conceptual framework of decision making in adopting IT in closed-loop supply chain management.
