Abstract

As a value system, Pancasila provides a fundamental basis in the life of the community, nation, and state. The essence of the fourth principle of Pancasila is about democracy which is based on wisdom that is rooted in the moral principle of humanity and divinity. Therefore, according to the Pancasila view, democracy must be based on religious moral originating from God, justice and civilization. Nowadays, by seeing the application of democracy in Indonesia still has many problems, likes freedom as a symbol of democracy is not balanced with its quality, resulting in behavior that is contrary to democracy. Although freedom is guaranteed in the Constitution, oppression, discrimination, marginalization still occurs. Democracy does not only require laws, regulations, and institutions capable of enforcing it, but also democratic attitudes, namely the willingness to build a compromise with the awareness that a person cannot realize all that is desired (a combination of individual awareness and group awareness). True democracy requires good citizens. Therefore, democratic education that integrated through Citizenship Education is absolutely necessary with the aim of preparing citizens who are able to act with democratic ethics.

Abstract

Abstract

The international world is very closely related to children in the present era. One way to introduce it is by inserting international science in kindergarten level education. This knowledge is rarely conveyed to early age students because the lack of providing material training for kindergarten teachers and the diversity of educational backgrounds makes it difficult to determine international material. Community service uses the method of delivering basic international material to kindergarten teachers, then it can be delivered to kindergarten students. The learning activities that will be provided are in the form of: 1) selection of basic materials about the international world, 2) the use of effective and fun learning media for kindergarten students. This community service aims to increase the knowledge of kindergarten teachers and students about the international world through quality and fun learning activities.

Abstract

Modernity demands a high-quality human being, especially education. While part of society justifies that the best education should have an international label since it is considered to master many things. Therefore is not surprising that many parties have created international labeled schools in Indonesia, such as  Islamic boarding schools. They are marked with the term “Islamic International Boarding School” and have a primary vision and mission to deliver the students (santri) able to compete in the international realm. However, understanding literacy to obtain information, especially about getting information sources, studies programs following the students' expertise, and so on, is still limited. Drawing from these problems, we held a community service activity, which focused on an information literacy campaign held in Islamic International School Sabilil Muttawien, Magetan, East Java. This activity aims to find out the description of literacy about the internationalization of higher education. Based on this background, we also survey how the santri seek information about international higher education that santri will be able to use online media as santri (prospective students) can find out detailed information about top international universities.

Abstract

Egypt is negotiating with Ethiopia regarding the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) on the Nile River. This research employs Negotiation theory combined with the role of power and Transboundary Water Interaction concept to understand the negotiation process Egypt carried out. The research findings show that Egypt, using its power that comprises material, bargaining and ideational power, tries to maintain its hegemony in the region. Egypt succeeded in inviting third parties such as the US, World Bank and UNSC in the negotiation process. Political dynamics in the region and internal instability after the 2011 Egyptian Revolution influenced Egypt's strength in its negotiations with Ethiopia. Thus, the interaction is related to contest and compliance. The development of GERD in Ethiopia is seen as a contest for the hegemonic situation, while Egypt is trying to create compliance with Ethiopia. Egypt seeks to create compliance with the status quo through some mechanisms: coercive, utilitarian, normative, and ideological hegemonic. Although the two countries compete with and obey each other, they still collaborate and negotiate to resolve the GERD problem. The interaction between these two during the negotiation process can be categorized as a neutral interaction with low conflict–low cooperation category.

Abstract

International Islamic boarding schools (IIBS) are updating their educational curriculum by utilizing digital media in the learning process as a solution to the lag of students in the global era, especially in accessing information literacy during college selection. This study examines the use of digital media using the Uses and Gratifications theory with a descriptive qualitative approach, conducted in IIBS, which has international networks and a curriculum. Informants consist of students, teaching teams, and information technology managers. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews and participatory observations. The data analysis technique uses an interactive model that includes data reduction, presentation, and concluding. The results show that the literacy level of students of IIBS is quite good compared to other Islamic boarding schools, because the administrators of international Islamic boarding schools understand the importance of digital media in the globalization era. Digital utilization is limited so as not to disrupt the activities of Islamic boarding schools. In addition, international-standard Islamic boarding schools can change the bad stereotypes of students, proven by alums of Islamic boarding schools being able to compete with the community, especially in the best university competitions and scholarships.
