Abstract

The experiment aimed to produce native chicken with faster growth rate that is to achieve body weight of more than 1 kg at 3 months of age. Three hundreds and thirty three crossbreeds (PK) day old chicken from the results of artificial insemination between male Pelung and second generation of selection of female native chicken, were used in this experiment. One hundred and eighty purebreds native chickens were also used as control population. They were put in grower cages with density of 10 birds per cage and each cage was treated as a single unit of replication. Feeds during experiment were given and divided into 3 phases that is Starter Feeds I (Protein 21% and Energy 3000 kcal/kg) for chicken between 0-21 days of age, Starter Feeds II (Protein 19% and Energy 2900 kcal/kg) for chicken between 22-42 days and Grower Feeds (Protein 17% and Energy 2900 kcal/kg) for chicken between 43-84 days. Variables which were recorded were weekly body weight until 12 weeks of age, feed consumption, feed conversion, mortality, carcass weight and simple economic ratio (B/C ratio). The results of the experiment showed that body weight at 12 weeks of crossbred (PK) was significantly higher than the pure native chicken (1000 vs 923 g) (P<0.05). Feed consumption was not significantly different (3037 vs 3036 g/bird/12 weeks), but the feed conversion of the crossbred was significantly better than the purebred (3.09 vs 3.4) (P<0.05). Carcass weight and carcass components were not significantly different between the two breeds, but they were different between sexes (P<0.05). Simple economic calculation showed that crossbreeds produced higher profit than purebreds with the benefit cost ratio were 1.31 for crossbred (PK) and 1.2 for purebred native chicken. The mortality rate during the experiment was low, that is 5.5% for crossbred and 6.36% for purebred.   Key words: Crossbreeding, male Pelung, female native chicken

Abstract

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance of production traits of the synthetic population of Border Leicester x Merino crossbred. A comparison was made between the F2, F2.5, F3 generations ( synthetic population ) and Fl generation. Estimates the effects of maternal heterosis in the synthetic populations of Border Leicester x Merino crossbred were analyzed by the method of least squares for Birth Weight (BW), Weaning Weight (WW) and Yearling Weight (YW). Two kind of analyses were executed for each traits i.e. within Fl sire generation and within F2 sire generation. For each analysis, maternal heterosis was respectively calculated as twice the difference between the least squares means of F2 and F2.5 lambs and F2.5 and F3 lambs.Pool estimates of maternal heterosis effects were also calculated for each traits. Research results showed that there was no significant difference of BW between F2, F2.5 and F3 generation. Weaning Weight was significantly higher (P < 0,05) in the synthetic population as compared to the Fl generation. Yearling Weight (YW) was significantly higher in the F2 generation as compared to F2.5 and F3 generation at the level of 5% (P < 0,05 ) and the 10% level (P < 0,10 ) respectively. Within Fl sire generation, maternal heterosis effects were 12,65%, 3,4% and 1,67% for Birth Weight (BW), Weaning Weight (WW) and Yearling Weight(YW). From the analysis within F2 sire generation, maternal heterosis effects were 1% for BW, 4,49% for WW and 3,09% for YW.Pool estimates of maternal heterosis effects were 5,78%, 3,95% and 2,37% for BW, WW and YW respectively. These results indicated that the effect of maternal heterosis gradually declined from preweaning to postweaning periods. In general, the present estimates of maternal heterosis for body weights are in close agreement with previous publications. In order to gain maximum benefit from heterosis, these results suggest that in designing a crossbreeding program, especially in developing a new synthetic population, we should take into account not only individual heterosis effects but also all other different sources of heterosis such as maternal heterosis. Genetic methods presented in this paper can be used in the breeding program in Indonesia, especially in the development of the improved synthetic sheep population. However to the determine the superiority of synthetic population over the Fl generation, the overall comparison should be made on body weight, growth rate, survival rate and fertility traits.

Abstract

Background: Breast angiosarcoma is a rare malignancy arising from endothelial cell lining, approximately 0.04–0.05% of all breast malignancies and less than 1% of all sarcomas. Consisting of primary breast angiosarcoma (PAS) and secondary breast angiosarcoma (SAS). Diagnosis is often delayed because the case is rare and asymptomatic, the lump is painless, grows quickly, progressive disease can develop distant metastasize, and the prognosis is reportedly poor. Case presentation: This case series presents two cases of primary breast angiosarcoma; the first patient is a patient who needs to obtain a diagnosis through physical examination, imaging, surgery, histopathology, and immunohistochemistry. The second patient is how to reconstruct the surgical defect using the Latissimus dorsi flap, and interestingly, with thirteen years of survival without recurrence, Surgery is the main treatment with high local recurrence. Wide excision in the form of a simple mastectomy is recommended if a tumor-free margin of 2-3 cm cannot be achieved. Tumor excision, or cosmesis, is not achieved, which is related to the proportion of breast and tumor size. The use of radiation therapy and neoadjuvant or adjuvant chemotherapy is still controversial. Conclusion: Establishing a diagnosis with a thorough examination starts with anamnesis, physical examination, radiological examination, and histopathology, including immunohistochemistry, which is an important examination in confirming the diagnosis.

Abstract

Background: Triple-negative breast cancer has a percentage of 15% to 20% in breast cancer patients at the time of first diagnosis. Guidelines from St. Gallen guidelines, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American College of Pathology state that triple-negative breast cancer is breast cancer with ER and PR expression <1%. As an aggressive subtype, outcomes are poor when compared with hormone receptor-positive. Methods: This research is an observational study. The research subjects in this study were triple-negative breast cancer patients in Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital, Surgical Oncology division, West Java, Indonesia, from October 2018 - November 2023. There were 702 research subjects who would be studied. Characteristics of triple-negative breast cancer were taken from medical records. Results: The results showed that the average age of the subjects was 47 years. Based on histology, the most common was Invasive Carcinoma of no special type (86.75%), followed by Invasive lobular carcinoma (7.26%), medullary carcinoma (1.7%), micropapillary carcinoma (0.99%), metaplastic carcinoma (2.36%) and the least amount is Pleomorphic invasive lobular carcinoma (0.71%). The side of the breast affected is not significant, and the highest grade is 3. The involvement of lymph node metastases is due to aggressive tumor subtypes and lymphovascular invasion. Lymphovascular invasion is known to be a negative prognostic factor. It is a late stage for metastasis and local recurrence. Conclusion: Triple-negative breast cancer is breast cancer that has histopathological heterogeneity; most of the tumors are grade 3 and have significant metastases in regional lymph nodes. There is no significant relationship between grading and regional lymph node metastases. there is a significant relationship between lymphovascular invasion and regional lymph nodes metastases.
