Abstract

Children who are ready to participate in learning at elementary school can be seen from various components, namely basic abilities, social, emotional, communication, age, and independence. This study aims to determine the problems that exist in children when entering elementary school.  This study used a quantitative method with a descriptive quantitative design. The subjects in this study are 104 elementary school teachers (84 public; 20 private). The measuring instrument in this study uses an open questionnaire containing questions about the problems encountered by elementary school teachers regarding the readiness of children to enter elementary school. The results showed that the problems encountered by primary school teachers who teach first-grade students in terms of school readiness could be divided into three categories: (1) basic abilities of children refer to a child's abilities that can support independence in learning (cognitive); (2) social abilities are defined by a child's ability to form friendships with classmates, collaborate, and play with peers; and (3) parental support associated with the presence of parents in accompanying the child's learning process and meeting the child's psychological needs and facilities. Thus, children who are ready for school are assessed from their cognitive abilities and other important aspects.

Abstract

ABSTRACTAdolescent girls tend to experience an increase in body fat, so girls pay more attention to their appearance to achieve an ideal appearance and often feel dissatisfied with their appearance, called body dissatisfaction. One that influences body dissatisfaction is the media, therefore media literacy can be used to prevent body dissatisfaction by thinking critically about the messages conveyed by the media. This study aims to look at the relationship between media literacy and body dissatisfaction in adolescent girls in the city of Bukittinggi. The research method used in this study is a quantitative method with a correlational research design and using correlation analysis Spearman’s Rho. Respondents in this study amounted to 150 young women in the city of Bukittinggi using the technique of accidental sampling. Data collection was carried out using adaptation measuring devices New Media Literacy (NML) Scale and Body Dissatisfaction Scale for Women (BDS-W). Reliability on the media literacy scale is 0.918 and on the scale body dissatisfaction of 0.870. The results of this study indicate that media literacy is significantly negatively related to body dissatisfaction, the relationship between these two variables has moderate strength. This can be seen from the significance value of 0.000 (p 0.05) and the correlation coefficient of -0.515. That is, the better the media literacy skills of young women in the city of Bukittinggi, the lower the degree of body dissatisfaction, and vice versa. A good ability to access messages in the media, process messages in the media, create media content, and use media in various skill levels can lower the level of dissatisfaction with the perceived body.ABSTRACTRemaja perempuan cenderung mengalami peningkatan lemak tubuh, sehingga remaja perempuan lebih memperhatikan penampilannya untuk mencapai penampilan yang ideal dan sering merasa tidak puas terhadap penampilannya atau disebut dengan body dissatisfaction. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan adaptasi alat ukur New Media Literacy (NML) Scale dan Body Dissatisfaction Scale for Women (BDS-W).

Abstract

ABSTRACTElementary school-age children who live in earthquake-prone areas must have disaster preparedness skills. However, they have limited understanding on disaster risks and are unengaged to protect themselves from harm. Parents have a significant role to prepare their children to overcome this situation. Descriptive quantitative method used in this study to describe disaster preparation and management of parents with school-age children. Three hundred and four parents participated in this study (81 fathers and 223 mothers) and completed the research questionnaire of parental disaster preparedness and management by Kawasaki et al (2019). The data was collected from eleven districts in Padang using cluster random sampling technique. The results showed that parents’ disaster preparations are more focused on ensuring the safety of children (68.1%). Moreover, parents perceive that school facilities and infrastructure to deal with earthquakes are inadequate (47.7%). In terms of earthquake disaster management, parents are more concerned about ensuring their children’s physical health (97%) than mental health (79.6%).
