Abstract

Breakfast is a crucial behaviour for teenagers, as it has a significant impact on their physical and cognitive well-being. This study aims to analyze the relationship between prior related behavior and behavioral specific cognition and affect on adolescent breakfast habits. The population in this study consisted of 410 students at SMP UNKLAB Airmadidi, North Minahasa, in the 2024/2025 academic year. The sample in this study was composed of students who met the criteria. We employed stratified random sampling in this study based on the classes at SMP UNKLAB Airmadidi, North Minahasa, which are divided into three grades: VII, VIII, and IX. Prior related behaviors associated to breakfast habits include knowledge, attitudes, and practices, have a significant effect on specific cognition and affection. Positive past experiences encourage motivation and attitudes that support the habit of regular breakfast, while negative experiences can become obstacles in forming such habits. Therefore, understanding and utilizing previous behaviors is very important in efforts to improve healthy breakfast habits in adolescents. Abstract

This study aims to develop and validate a questionnaire instrument based on Self-Determination Theory to measure breakfast habits among junior high school adolescents. Breakfast is a crucial factor in supporting adolescents' physical and cognitive health, yet the underlying psychological motivations for this habit remain underexplored. Self-Determination Theory emphasizes three basic psychological needs—autonomy, competence, and relatedness—which are believed to contribute to intrinsic motivation in maintaining healthy behaviors, such as breakfast consumption. This research used an explanatory survey design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 119 students from UNKLAB Junior High School, Airmadidi, North Minahasa, selected using stratified random sampling. The research instrument was a modified self-determination questionnaire adapted to the local context. Validity and reliability tests showed that the questionnaire had strong construct validity and reliability. This study contributes to the development of a measurement tool that can be utilized in adolescent health promotion and nutritional interventions. Further validation is recommended to improve the cultural and social sensitivity of the instrument.

Abstract

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital technology has expanded access to health information but has also increased exposure to health misinformation, which may affect health-related behaviors. This study aimed to examine the relationship between exposure to health misinformation and adherence to disease prevention programs among adults in Palembang City, South Sumatra, Indonesia. A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed involving 120 respondents aged 18 years and above who actively accessed health information through digital media. Participants were selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected using a validated Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and linear regression. The findings showed that exposure to health misinformation was moderately high (mean = 3.62), while adherence to disease prevention programs was at a moderate level (mean = 3.45). Pearson correlation analysis revealed a significant negative relationship between misinformation exposure and adherence (r = −0.462; p < 0.05). Linear regression analysis indicated that misinformation exposure significantly predicted adherence behavior (B = −0.385; p < 0.001), explaining 21.3% of the variance. The results suggest that health misinformation is an important factor influencing adherence to disease prevention programs. Enhancing digital health literacy, strengthening evidence-based health communication, and increasing public trust in health institutions are essential strategies to improve compliance with disease prevention measures and reduce the negative impact of misinformation.

Abstract

The development of non-communicable diseases, especially diabetes mellitus, shows a significant increase in urban areas due to changes in lifestyle and social determinants of health. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the relationship between knowledge, attitude, lifestyle, and education level with diabetes mellitus prevention behavior and to formulate an effective community-based health promotion model in urban areas. Method: This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design on 300 respondents selected through a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, then analyzed using the chi-square test and odds ratio (OR). Result: The results showed that all independent variables had a significant relationship with diabetes mellitus prevention behavior (p < 0.05). Lifestyle was the most dominant factor (OR = 3.75), followed by knowledge (OR = 2.75), attitude (OR = 2.35), and education level (p = 0.010). However, a gap was found between the level of knowledge and the implementation of preventive behavior in the community. Implications: These findings underscore the need for health promotion interventions that focus not only on increasing knowledge but also on lifestyle changes through a participatory and contextual community-based approach. Conclusion: An integrative and adaptive community-based health promotion model that adapts to the characteristics of urban communities has the potential to increase the effectiveness of diabetes mellitus prevention in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

The increasing proportion of the elderly population has raised the demand for inpatient services, requiring hospitals to implement evidence-based bed capacity planning. Andalas University Hospital has not yet developed a projection of inpatient bed requirements through 2030 based on trends in elderly service utilization. This study aimed to project inpatient bed requirements through 2030. A quantitative study with a retrospective longitudinal design was conducted using secondary data from medical records and daily inpatient census reports from 2020–2025 at Andalas University Hospital, Padang. The unit of analysis comprised hospitalized patients aged ≥60 years, totaling 5,482 observations (total sampling). Data were collected through document review and reconciliation of medical records, daily census, and management reports. Bed requirements were calculated using the formula: Bed = treatment days/(365 × target BOR), with a target BOR of 75–85%. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, linear trend analysis, and simple linear regression. The average BOR was 71.8%, ALOS 5.6 days, BTO 47.2 times/year, and TOI 2.3 days. The proportion of elderly patients increased by 6.8% annually (p<0.001). Regression analysis demonstrated a significant relationship between increasing elderly admissions and bed requirements (β=0.81; 95% CI: 0.65–0.97; R²=0.76; p<0.001). Based on the model, bed requirements are projected to increase from 220 beds in 2025 to 287 beds in 2030 (95% prediction interval: 276–298 beds). These projections can support phased bed expansion, optimization of human resources, budgeting, supporting facilities, strategic planning, inpatient capacity evaluation, and geriatric service development. Bed capacity should be gradually increased to maintain service efficiency and support hospital resource planning. These findings are projective and indicate associative rather than causal relationships.

Abstract

The application of digital technology in health services has become increasingly important as public demand for fast, accurate, and transparent services continues to grow. Puskesmas, as first-level healthcare facilities, are required to adapt to technological developments to improve service quality. However, challenges such as service delays, administrative inefficiencies, and limited use of digital systems still persist. This study aims to analyze the effect of digital technology implementation on the quality of health services at Andalas Padang Health Center. The research employed a quantitative method with an associative approach. The population consisted of all patients receiving services at the health center, with a sample of 100 outpatient respondents selected through accidental sampling. All respondents had utilized digital-based services such as electronic registration and administration. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using simple linear regression with statistical software. The results showed that digital technology implementation has a positive and significant effect on service quality, with a regression coefficient of 0.652 and a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05). The coefficient of determination (R²) was 0.425, indicating that 42.5% of service quality variation is explained by digital technology, while the rest is influenced by other factors. In conclusion, optimizing digital technology improves healthcare service quality.
