Abstract

Objectives: The objective of the study were to determine if there was any (bisphenol A) BPA release from three adhesive brands, to determine the differences of BPA release between three adhesive brands, to determine the genotoxicity from three adhesive brands, and to determine the correlation of BPA release and genotoxicity. Methods: Three branded adhesives materials were polimerized in mold and immersed in pH 7 and 4 artificial saliva from 24 to 720 hours. The artificial saliva was tested with spectrophotometry test to see BPA release at 24, 240, 480, and 720 hours, then freeze dried to get solid extract. Combination of the extract and lymphocite culture (male and female) then tested with in vitro cytokinesis-block micronucleus (MN) assay to see genotoxicity level of three adhesives at 24, 240, 480, and 720 hours as well. Results: The BPA release occured at 720 hours by Adhesive 1: 0.013μg/L; Adhesive 2: 0.11μg/L; Adhesive 3: 0.036μg/L. There was a statistically significant difference between BPA release with time (F = 505.98; p=0.00) and brands (F = 147.65; p = 0.00). Time and BPA release interaction also showed a statistically significant difference (F=13.35; p=0.00). Genotoxicity can be seen at 720 hours on Flowtain LV sample (MN frequency: male: 0.044; female: 0.053). Conclusion: The number of BPA release of all brand can be seen from the first 24 hours, and were increasing from 24 to 720 hours. Genotoxicity can be seen from one of the adhesive brand at 720 hours. There was correlation between BPA leaching and micronucleus frequency

Abstract

A 30 years old female patient with Class III malocclusion and several missing maxillary anterior and posterior teeth and also mandibular posterior teeth came to the clinic to improve both her esthetic and function. Patient had a unilateral cleft lip and palate. History of combination between poor dental hygiene and dentistry was the cause of the multiple missing teeth. Periodontic, orthodontic, oral maxillofacial surgery and prosthodontics treatments were undertaken in the proper timing and sequence with an interdisciplinary approach. Proper diagnosis and treatment planning were crucial to solve this case. After initial periodontal care was completed, orthodontic treatment was completed to prepare her orthognathic surgery. Space consolidation and occlusion correction were also completed to prepare her for final prosthesis post-surgery. Partial denture were delivered by the prosthodontists. As a result, a stable Class I occlusion with good esthetic and function treatment results were achieved. The case showed that proper diagnosis and treatment planning is very important especially in an interdisciplinary treatment of Class III malocclusion.

Abstract

Alteration of maxillary growth, improvement in mandibular growth and position, and change in dental and muscular relationships, especially changing in esthetic profile are the expected results of myofunctional appliances. The use of Bionator appliance is a widely used myofunctional appliance for the management of Class II malocclusion. A normal and healthy Indonesian boy aged 12 years and 2 months old was motivated for treatment for protruded maxillary anterior teeth and retrognathic mandibular. He was introverted and had poor self-esteem despite his normal medical history. He had a Class II Division 1 malocclusion with a 10 mm overjet, normal overbite, with an SNA of 92.89°, SNB of 85.32°, ANB of 7.52°, and a facial angle of 88.11°. He was in mixed dentition stage with all his permanent teeth available and ready to erupt. The patient was treated in two phases: phase I to correct the skeletal discrepancy using Bionator appliance and phase II to correct the tooth discrepancy using fixed appliance. At the end of phase I treatment, or 10 months of wearing Bionator appliance, the patient’s mandible was positioned forward with the ANB angle reduced from 7.56° to 2.30°, and the profile was greatly improved. His molar and canine relationship was Class I. His profile became straight and more favorable. Early treatment using functional appliance therapy can reduce the severity of Class II skeletal pattern and instant change in facial and dental appearance in growing patients.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic is a valuable lesson and experience for the world community in facing challenges to maintain health and daily life. The psychological and emotional impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on family behavior and society in general. Dental and oral health education for children other than mothers is one of the health efforts that can be carried out to increase the knowledge, willingness and skills of children and mothers as a large family in maintaining dental and oral health and hygiene. Explanations need to be given to children and mothers about why and how to maintain healthy teeth and mouth properly. Dental and oral health education delivered in the form of stories through audiovisual media and simulations will be able to create a pleasant learning atmosphere so that it is more effective in attracting attention and facilitating the process of absorbing information by parents, especially children.

Abstract

COVID-19 cases in Indonesia have increased to require comprehensive efforts in case management and efforts to break the chain of transmission. The community in the RW. 07 Benteng Sub-district, Warudoyong District, Sukabumi City have oral health problems such as cavities, swelling of the gum, and bad breath. At the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, people are terrified to go to the dentist because of the information that dental care considers having a higher risk of COVID-19. Based on the above problems, the FKG Trisakti University’s Team provided education in counseling and training to the community in RW. 07 Sukabumi City. The case emergency, even though during the COVID-19 pandemic to get dental care, so as not to aggravate further the situation where unchecked, the swelling might interfere with breathing and endanger personal safety. they are also informed about the management to go to the dentist. To minimize the transmission of the virus such as always using a mask, carrying out the WHO standard 6-step hand washing procedure, sneezing or coughing ethics, and doing physical restrictions. While in the waiting room, also when in the practice room, the dentist and other health teams use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), disinfection, cleaning, and handling of tools and the patient rinses his mouth with Povidone-iodine mouthwash before starting treatment. We can maintain Oral hygiene and teeth remain healthy if brushing teeth is doing appropriately, using dental floss, mouthwash from natural ingredients such as betel leaf, and avoiding foods that contain lots of sugar.

Abstract

Background: The Pont Index is utilized as a method to predict the arch width of the maxilla in orthodontic treatment. An evaluation of the Pont Index in malocclusion patients at RSGM-P USAKTI is necessary to assess its relevance in planning and achieving successful orthodontic treatments. Objectives: This study aims to determine the accuracy of the Pont Index in malocclusion patients at RSGM-P USAKTI.. Methods: This research employed a descriptive-analytic design with a sample of 30 maxillary dental models from malocclusion patients at RSGM-P USAKTI during the 2022-2023 period. Measurements were conducted using a vernier caliper to determine the premolar and molar ratios based on the mesiodistal width of the maxillary incisor, interpremolar distance, and intermolar distance. Data analysis was performed using the Shapiro-Wilk test and One-Sample Test with SPSS software. Results: The data analysis revealed that the average premolar and molar ratios were significantly different from the standard Pont Index values (0,80 for premolar and 0,64 for molar). This indicated that the Pont Index cannot be applied to predict dental arch width in patients with malocclusion at RSGM-P USAKTI Conclusion: The Pont Index is not relevant for use in the orthodontic treatment planning for the patients with malocclusion at RSGM-P USAKTI.

Abstract

Background: Removable orthodontic appliance is one of the solutions of malocclusion problems in Indonesia. This appliance can treat mild to moderate dental malocclusion, such as Class I Angle, and can be removed by patients under the supervision of a dentist. Assessment of the success rate of removable orthodontic treatment can be performed using intermolar and inter dm2 distance measurements with anterior crowding correction. Objective: To determine orthodontic treatment success rate using removable appliance based on intermolar and inter dm2 distance measurement with anterior crowding correction in children aged 7-10 years at RSGM-P Trisakti University 2017-2019. Methods: The study was observational analytic to perform measurements of anterior crowding, intermolar, and inter dm2 distance on 26 pairs of the study model were selected using a random sampling method. Results: 19 patients have an increase in width at intermolar distance maxillary parameter and 22 patients at the mandibular (range 0.5 - 7 mm). 24 patients have an increase in width at inter dm2 distance maxillary parameter and 23 patients at mandibular (range 0.5 - 4 mm). All patients have an intermolar distance that exceeds the Pont prediction before orthodontic treatment. Conclusion: There were significant differences in maxillary and mandibular intermolar and inter dm2 distance parameters measurement of the study model before and after orthodontic treatment (p <0.05). There was no significant difference in anterior crowding parameter measurement of the study model before and after orthodontic treatment (p> 0.05).
