Abstract

Peuyeum comes from cassava which is an agricultural commodity that is widely grown in Indonesia as a food which is source of carbohydrates. The types of polysaccharides that compose cassava are starch, cellulose and hemicellulose in the form of xylan. Xylanase is a xylanolytic enzyme that can hydrolyze xylan. The bacteria producing xylanase enzyme has been isolated from peuyeum which is thought to affect the fermentation process. Peuyeum contains starch so that it is one of the sources of the amylase enzyme. But there has never been a study of peuyeum's xylanase enzyme screening. The purpose of this study was to isolate xylanase-producing bacteria on peuyeum and identify these bacterial species by analyzing the 16S rRNA gene so that it could become a new source in the search for enzymes. This study consisted of several stages, namely bacterial isolation, xylanase enzyme screening, morphological testing, bacterial DNA isolation, sequencing, bacterial identifikation with the phylogenetic tree method. Xylanase enzyme producing bacteria in peuyeum has been successfully isolated. Based on the results of phylogenetic tree analysis it was found that XF1 bacteria had the closest homology to Bacillus cereus with 99% similarity.

Abstract

Abstract

Bhakti Kencana University (BKU) community service activities were conducted in Girimekar Village, Bandung Regency. This activity involved BKU lecturers from various disciplines, such as Midwifery, Nursing, Public Health, and Pharmacy. This activity was carried out by forming a medical team, which was an effort to empower the community, especially the youth of the local group. This activity aims to socialize emergency treatment measures that must be carried out as soon as possible before residents are taken to the community health center or hospital. This will help the community care more about their health. Girimekar Village has topography and land contours in the form of highlands and lowlands at an altitude of between 400 meters above sea level and 600 meters above sea level, with an average temperature ranging from 19°C to 37°C. Girimekar Village consists of 5 hamlets, 22 RWs, and 79 RTs. Based on the topography, most areas outside the forest area are slopes or peaks with varying heights. Most RWs are located outside forest areas. Conditions like this are the background for the formation of this medical team. The method for forming a medical team was carried out by identifying the number of young people in the area and then carrying out preliminary outreach by educating them about the importance of emergency treatment before residents are taken to the hospital. After the socialization, the medical team was given training on first aid in the form of basic life support. The formation of the medical team was carried out by first identifying the number of youth. This activity, which was carried out for one month, produced a medical team from among the youth who were expected to be at the forefront in assisting. First, to residents before taking them to the health center or hospital. 26 Girimekar residents attended it, and the long-term plan for this activity is to hold first aid training for the medical team at least once every six months.

Abstract

Corn (Zea mays L.) is an important commodity in Indonesia, but in Citaman Village, Nagreg District, its utilization is still limited to fresh sales with low added value. To address this issue, a community service program was implemented that focused on empowering village women through training in processing corn into corn nuggets as an innovative product with economic value. The activity was designed with a community-based participatory approach that included coordination with village officials, extension sessions, processing demonstrations, hands-on practice, and evaluation through pre- and post-training questionnaires. The results of the activity showed that more than 85% of participants were very satisfied and more than 80% expressed a high interest in developing corn nuggets as a small-scale business opportunity. These findings indicate a significant increase in participants' knowledge, skills, and entrepreneurial motivation. The corn nugget innovation is not only a means of optimizing the use of local commodities, but is also relevant to the global trend of plant-based foods and supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Zero Hunger, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Responsible Consumption and Production. Overall, this program proves that local food-based innovation can be used as a model for replicating community empowerment that contributes to strengthening economic resilience while encouraging sustainable development in rural areas.
