Abstract

Abstract

Leadership development within universities in Indonesia is still lacking, even though it is important as a starting point to develop future leaders. This study is aimed at exploring factors which might affect a students’ intention to become a leader in a student organization, namely, attitude toward student leadership, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and leadership self-efficacy. Second- and third-year students (N = 286) from various faculties in a state university filled in a paper-based questionnaire containing newly constructed measurements, based on the theory of planned behavior by Ajzen and the theory of self-efficacy by Bandura. Data analysis using hierarchical multiple regression showed that only the subjective norms were related to the students’ intention to lead student organizations (β = .45, p < .01). This result implied that student organizations should also consider the potential leaders’ peers, families, and significant others to persuade them to become leaders. Other implications were discussed further.

Abstract

This study focuses on the vulnerability of general knowledge held in semantic memory. Previous studies have shown that exposure to inaccurate information can negatively affect prior knowledge. This study explores the effect of exposure to inaccurate information on semantic memory, presented in nonfiction articles. The procedure consisted of a pretest (general knowledge quiz), a manipulation stage one week later with articles containing inaccurate information for the experimental group and neutral information for the control group, and a posttest (another general knowledge quiz) given immediately after the manipulation stage. The participants were 55 Universitas Indonesia undergraduate students, divided into control and experimental groups by randomized matching based on the pretest results. An independent sample t-test showed a significant difference between the experimental group (M = −1.538, SD = 1.794) and the control group (M = 0.517, SD = 1.639), (t(53) = −4.441, p < 0.01, two-tailed), with the experimental group showing a decline in general knowledge quiz scores. These findings demonstrate that exposure to inaccurate information affects semantic memory by interfering with the retrieval process of that memory.

Abstract

One thing that distinguishes learn using network (online) and face to face learning is the separation between teachers and students that facilitated using online technology media, such as the Internet. Each participant in online learning should be able to manage their own learning (self-regulated leaner) in order to follow the lesson well. Development of a valid and reliable Self-Regulated Online Learning (SROL) scale is needed to help us address issues regarding the success of online learning, especially in developing various research on self-regulated online learning and its relation with other variables. The development of this measure carried out on 30 students' online classes by Universitas Indonesia. Single-trial test with Cronbach alpha generate the score which means SROL scale has high internal consistency. Calculation of the validity with criterion validity, which indicates that the measuring instrument SROL valid to predict students' academic achievement. Based on the integrative analysis of items, we selected 24 best items that distinguish individuals who higher and lower self-regulated online learning. Norms based on the group by using Scaled Score, with a mean of 10 and standard deviation of 3.

Abstract

In the current manuscript, we describe how forensic psychology evolved in Indonesia in research and practice settings and how psychologists work as expert witnesses in legal cases. We performed a literature search using SINTA (the portal of Indonesian accredited journals) to retrieve publications on "Forensic Psychology," "Legal Psychology," or "Law Psychology" to search for papers in Indonesian journals. We also explored relevant publications about forensic psychology in Indonesia in international journals using the Web of Science (WoS) database, which showed findings concerning the lack of publication. Additionally, a literature search using WoS resulted compared with other areas of psychology in Indonesia, forensic psychology research is lagging. Additionally, we conducted semi-structured interviews with five APSIFOR members, asking about their experiences as psychological expert witnesses in Indonesia, the policies governing their work, their challenges, and recommendations for improving their work. Lastly, we illustrate two significant cases that call for serious attention to the development of forensic psychology in Indonesia. We conclude by providing several recommendations for improving Indonesian psychological expert witness work, emphasizing the importance of clear guidelines and standards, establishing a forensic psychology education program, conducting additional research, and increasing the competence of psychological expert witnesses. Abstract

This study aimed to examine the extent to which religious identity and past experience of political participation can explain individuals' intention to vote in the 2024 general election in Indonesia. A total of 320 respondents were recruited through convenience sampling techniques in Bandung and Cimahi. The results show that only the religiocentrism dimension was positively associated with the intention to vote, while other dimensions such as religious practice and intratextual fundamentalism were negatively related. In addition, the results showed that the experience of political participation in the past was not positively related to the intention to vote in the 2024 general election. This could be explained through religiocentrism’s tendency to encourage individuals to view their religious ingroup as better than religious outgroups, leading them to choose leaders who align with the values of their religious identity. On the other hand, past experience of political participation might have caused individual disappointment with political practices in Indonesia which are still tainted by corruption and nepotism, so they felt that their political participation had no significant impact. These findings provided a new perspective on individual’s intention to use their political rights in Indonesian general election.
