Abstract

Geotechnical and mechanical behaviour of soil stabilized with lime-rice husk ash and strengthened by randomly placed plastic fiber depends on the portions of the added materials and curing time. This research investigates the effect of the waste plastic sack fibers portion and the curing time to the stress – strain relationship and to the shear strength parameters of the mixture. In this study the portions of lime and rice husk ash were set as constant to the value of 12% and 24% respectively. The effect of four waste plastic sack fibers portion variation from 0.1% to 0.8% was measured by unconsolidated-undrained triaxial test. The samples were tested at 7, 14 and 21 days after mixing. In general, according to the test result, the inclusion of randomly waste plastic sack fiber and curing time have enhanced the shear strength parameters, the peak stress and the strain before failure.  With 0.2% fiber content, the cohesion and the internal friction angle values of the samples have increased 335% and 409% respectively compared with those of the samples having no added materials.

Abstract

Sand commonly has a good bearing capacity. Problems may occur when sand has low density and thick deposit. Flexible plate foundation may be used in this soil but plate deflection may be still high. To reduce deflection and improving soil density, piles were used to support the plate. Installing piles made foundation system stiffer. The objectives of this study are  to studies about behavior of plates and plate with a pile of sand on the ground, influence of plate thickness , pile length and spacing of the pole deflection, and the influence of the bond between the plate and the deflection of the pile .In this study is used test box of 1.2 m depth, 1.2 m width, 1.2 m length, and 1.0 m depth filled out with sand. Plate models were made from plexiglas of rectangular and square geometry. Piles were of steel pipesof 2.5cm diameter. Some parameters were as follows : plate thickness, plate geometry, pile length (L), pile spacing (s), bounding between plate and pile (fix or free), ’piled’ and freestanding foundation, and base pile enlargement. The behavior of the plateswere observed under loading (point load). The result shows that plate deflections were affected by the method of pile installation, plate thickness and pile length. For a ticker plate, contact surface between plate and soil was wider. For the 40cmx10cm plates with fix end pile, deflectionswere founf to reduced up to 70% compared with free end pile. The ’piled foundation’ on 40cmx10cm plates, L=20cm, s=4d, deflections were reduced 83,63% compared with free standing foundation.

Abstract

Organic waste and calcium carbide waste can be used as replacement material for cement in mortar. Organic waste ash and calcium carbide waste are mixed with some variations and then conducted tests to obtain the characteristics of the materials used in this study. Content of mortar comparation base on weight that are organic waste-calcium carbide waste : sand : water of 1.0 : 2.75 : 1.0. Compositions of waste organic ash and calcium carbide waste have some variations, i.e., 0.9-0.1, 0.7-0.3, 0.5-0.5, 0.3-0.7 and 0.1-0.9. Control mortar also made as discussant for mixture variations of organic waste ash and calcium carbide waste in compressive strength test. Control is mortar mixed with common Portland cement. All of mortars are mold with molder that has dimension 5 cm × 5 cm × 5 cm. Compressive strength test is done when age of mortars is 3 days, 14 days, and 28 days. Based on laboratory test results, compressive strength on 14 days at the highest variation of 70 % organic waste ash and 30 % calcium carbide waste was found to be 26,7 kg/cm2. But, this result of compressive strength is lower compared to compressive strength of control mortar which was found to be 79.9 kg/cm2 on 14 days. Highest compressive strength of all mixture variation showed that mixture of waste organic ash and calcium carbide waste can be used as a mortar/mixture of brick pair in simple house type and very simple house type that needs compressive strength as much as 25 kg/cm2for wall that do not bear of load.

Abstract

Problems in sandy soil may occur when sand has low density, uniform gradation and thick deposit. Flexible plate foundation may used in this condition but plate deflection still high. To reduce deflection and to improve soil density, piles were used to support the plate. Installing piles made foundation system stiffer. The objectives of this study are to studies about behavior of plates and plate with pile on sandy soil. Plate deflection was observed with variation of plate thickness, bottom pile enlargement, and soil-plate-pile interaction (free standing pile and piled foundation). 1,2 x 1,2 x 1,2 m box container filled with sandy soil was used as soil media. Square and rectangular plexiglass plate were used to modelled plate. Steel pipe with 2,5 cm  in diameter were used as pile model. The behavior of the plates were observed under loading (point load). The results shows that plate deflections were affected on plate thickness, bottom pile enlargement and soil-plate-pile interaction. For a ticker plate, contact surface between plate and soil was wider. For the 40 cm x 10 cm plates with base pile enlargement, deflections were found to reduced up to 21,26%. The ‘piled foundation’ on 40 cm x 10 cm plates, (installing with 20 cm pile length, and 10 cm spacing between pile), deflections were reduced 83,63% compared with free standing foundation.

Abstract

Tanah lempung ekspansif memiliki kembang dan susut yang sangat besar, dimana pengembangan terjadi pada musim hujan dan menyusut pada musim kemarau. Hal ini menyebabkan rendahnya daya dukung tanah dan berakibat pula pada kekuatan struktur yang akan dibangun di atasnya. Penelitian kuat dukung tanah dengan perkuatan kolom SiCC sudah dilakukan sebelumnya, namun karakteristik kuat geser tanah di sekitar kolom SiCC belum dikaji. Sehingga, pada penelitian ini dilakukan penelitian lanjutan untuk mengkaji kuat geser dan perilaku tanah disekitar kolom SiCC. Pada penelitian ini, kuat geser tanah disekitar kolom SiCC diuji dengan triaksial kondisi UU dan CU. Tekanan sel yang diberikan pada kondisi UU sebesar 49,05 kPa, 61,31 kPa, dan 73,58 kPa. Sedangkan tekanan sel yang diberikan pada kondisi CU sebesar 98,1 kPa, 196, 2 kPa, dan 294, 3 kPa. Tegangan aksial diberikan melalui tegangan deviator dengan kecepatan pembebanan 1,674 mm/menit pada kondisi UU dan 0,05 mm/menit pada kondisi CU hingga benda uji mencapai keruntuhan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kekuatan dan kekakuan tanah lebih tinggi terjadi di dekat kolom SiCC dan menurun dengan jarak dari pusat kolom SiCC.

Abstract

Clay shale merupakan batuan lunak yang memiliki potensi masalah pada kekuatan dan durabilitas bila tersingkap. Perbaikan tanah diperlukan bila digunakan sebagai lapis dasar jalan.  Salah satu metodenya adalah stabilisasi menggunakan semen. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbandingan nilai CBR dan pengembangan clay shale sebelum dan sesudah penambahan semen. Semen yang ditambahkan sebesar 10% dari berat total tanah kering. Semen dicampur dengan metode dry mix dan spray mix. Pengujian CBR menggunakan 3 variasi pemadatan yaitu 10, 25, 56 kali pukulan. Hasil penelitian menujukkan bahwa penambahan semen 10% pada 56 pukulan akan meningkatkan nilai CBR 38,40% dan menurunkan pengembangan 0,60%. Nilai CBR dengan metode dry mix lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan metode spray mix.Clay shale is a soft rock that has potential problems in strength and durability when exposed. Soil Improvement Required when used as the subgrade. One of the repair methods is stabilization using cement. This study aims to determine the value of CBR and clay shale swelling after the addition of cement. Cement added by 10% of dry soil weight. The cement is mixed by dry mix and spray mix methods. CBR testing uses three variations of compaction 10, 25, 56 blows. The results showed that adding 10% cement and 56 blows increased the CBR value by 38.40% and decreased the swelling by 0.60%. The CBR value with the dry mix method is higher than the spray mix method.

Abstract

Pengetahuan tentang perawatan jenazah sesuai sunnah masih kurang dipahami oleh sebagian masyarakat. Masyarakat di desa biasanya lebih menggantungkan prosesi perawatan jenazah kepada seorang modin. Kendala sering terjadi bila modin tidak berada ditempat saat ada orang meninggal sehingga perawatan jenazah agak tertunda. Kebiasaan di masyarakat dalam prosesi pemakaman juga masih dipengaruhi oleh adat yang kurang selaras dengan ajaran agama. Bangunan makam di area dengan elevasi yang lebih tinggi biasanya memerlukan bangunan penahan tanah untuk mencegah longsor. Fasilitas pendukung pemakaman, seperti keranda dan tempat memandikan jenazah, terkadang tidak layak. Latar belakang tersebut yang mendasari dilaksanakannya program pengabdian masyarakat di Kampung Kadirojo, Desa Jamus Kauman, Kecamatan Ngluwar, Kabupaten Magelang, Provinsi Jawa Tengah. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan edukasi kepada warga masyarakat tentang perawatan jenazah sesuai sunah, membantu desain keranda jenazah, serta merencanakan & menstimulasi pembangunan dinding penahan tanah area pemakaman. Metode penyampaian dalam edukasi perawatan jenazah dilakukan dengan paparan dan tanya jawab tentang materi cara memandikan, cara mengkafani, dan cara menguburkan jenazah. Perancangan / desain keranda jenazah & dinding penahan tanah dilakukan oleh Tim Pengabdian Masyarakat Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. Kegiatan kajian pembimbingan jenazah telah dilaksanakan pada tanggal 25 Juli 2020. Warga sangat antusias dengan kegiatan dan berharap kegiatan pengabdian dapat secara kontinyu dilaksanakan. Hasil desain keranda jenazah telah disampaikan ke ketua rukun kampung. Stimulasi dana dari LP3M UMY berhasil menggugah pendanaan swadaya masyarakat dalam pembangunan dinding penahan tanah. Proses pembangunan tertunda karena pandemi virus Covid-19.

Abstract

Keterampilan tukang bangunan terutama di desa seringkali hanya didapatkan secara otodidak. Kesalahan- kesalahan dari pelaksanaan konstruksi seringkali terjadi, karena tukang jarang bekerja pada proyek konstruksi dengan tata kelola yang baik. Pemahaman yang benar terhadap pelaksanaan konstruksi perlu diberikan kepada tukang, agar rumah yang dibangun sesuai dengan kaidah standar. Standar teknis tentu akan mengakomodasi kemungkinan beban spesifik yang mungkin terjadi seperti gempa. Edukasi hal tersebut penting untuk meminalkan resiko kegagalan struktur. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan kepada tukang bangunan agar dapat melaksanakan pekerjaan sesuai standar bangunan gedung tahan gempa. Pelatihan diberikan kepada komunitas tukang bangunan yang ada di Desa Jamus Kauman, Kecamatan Ngluwar, Kabupaten Magelang, Propinsi Jawa Tengah mengingat wilayah ini termasuk rawan gempa. Metode yang dipakai adalah pelatihan berupa paparan, pemutaran video dan contoh kasus bangunan yang ada dilokasi. Evaluasi bangunan dilakukan untuk menilai kesesuaian terhadap standar teknis bangunan (SNI). Pembuatan buku saku merupakan rangkaian kegiatan ini. Buku saku panduan praktis pelaksanaan bangunan rumah sederhana tahan gempa diberikan kepada seluruh peserta saat pelatihan. Buku saku telah didaftarkan sebagai hak cipta. Peserta antusias terhadap kegiatan ini, terbukti dengan kehadiran seluruh undangan sejumlah 40 orang. Peserta aktif bertanya dalam sesi diskusi. Hasil evaluasi melalui kuisioner menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan dinilai bermanfaat dan diharapkan dilanjutkan ditahun-tahun berikutnya.

Abstract

Increasing the skills and abilities of individuals, families and communities in the face of disasters need to be carried out continuously, because of the high potential for threats and the increasing number of people exposed to disaster risk. Women have a strategic role in disaster management and are very effective in transferring their knowledge to the next generation. In this community service activity, the Nasyiatul Aisyiyah branch of Ngawen, Klaten, Central Java, chosen as a partner. The purpose of this activity is to improve women's preparedness capacity and to reduce people's exposure to disasters. The activities are not only in terms of physical preparedness but also spiritual preparedness. This community service activity consist of three stage, which are,the first stage is preliminary survey to assess the knowledge of participants on disaster preparedness, the second stage is giving disaster preparedness education with facilitators guidance, providing disaster preparedness pocket books, and discussions, and the final stage was an assessment of disaster preparedness after participants are given education/training. The assessment was done using a questionnaire. The result of the prelimanary survey show that the participant are at the level of moderate preparedness. The disaster preparedness education increasing all the disaster preparedness parameters index. The knowledge parameter index increased by 5%, the family preparedness plan parameter index increased by 15%, the parameter index of disaster warning knowledge increased by 6%, the resource mobilization parameter index increased by 10%. The socialization or simulation is needed about the importance of evacuation, relief and rescue, and campaign about the disaster is also needed through various media that are in accordance with the conditions of the community.

Abstract

Cement is commonly used for soil stabilization and many other ground improvement techniques. Cement is believed to be very good to improve the compressive and split-tensile strength of clay subgrades. In some application cement could be partly or fully replaced with carbide waste. This research is to study the effectiveness of the cement replacement and to find the maximum carbide waste content to be allowed for a clay subgrade. The quantities of cement replaced with the carbide waste were 30, 50, 70, 90, and 100% by its mass. The results show that replacing the cement with carbide waste decreased both the compressive and split tensile strength. Replacing cement content with carbide waste reduced its ability for stabilization. The carbide waste content should be less than 70% of the cement to provide a sufficient stabilizing effect on a clay subgrade.
