Abstract

Chicken meat is very nutritious. It is sometimes blamed to cause strock attack and coronary heart disease in human, because of high fat and cholesterol contents in the chicken meat. Therefore, the aim of this experiment is to evaluate the effect of fermented noni leaf levels in diets on the cholesterol content of broiler chicken carcass. The experiment was based on completely randomized design with eight experimental diets containing 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 and 21% of fermented noni leaf powder. All diets were formulated to contain 22% crude protein and 3000 kcal/kg. Each treatment had three replicates with ten chickens per replicate. Two hundred and forty day old unsex broiler chicks Arbor Acress were fed ad lib. for eight weeks and then sacrificed. Feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, and cholesterol content of carcass were taken as variable responses. Data were analyzed based on analysis of variance and orthogonal comparisons. Results showed that feed consumption, daily weight gain, FCR and carcass content were not affected by the levels of fermented noni leaf in the diet. However, cholesterol content of broiler carcass was significantly (P < 0.05) affected by the dietary treatments. Cholesterol content of the carcass was reduced processed 26.18% 73.06 to 53.76 mg/100g mg/100g chicken meat. The lowest cholesterol level was obtained by feeding the chickens with diets containing 21% fermented noni leaf. Key Words: Morinda citrifolia L., Cholesterol, Broiler Chickens

Abstract

West Sumatera Province has poultry genetic resource of local duck that potential in supplyeggs and duck meat. Bayang duck was set by Indonesian Agricultural Ministry in 2012 as national livestock breeds in Indonesia. Microsatellite markers are widely used as a genetic identifier because of their abundant existence, co-dominant and high polymorphic. The purpose of this study was to determine the genetic diversity of Bayang ducks based on two microsatellite loci which include AY287 and AY283. DNA substances used in the study were blood samples from 24 Bayang duck in Pesisir Selatan Regency. The isolated DNA genom from 24 blood samples of Bayang duck could be detected by gel electrophoresis. Results showed that AY287 locus has 6 alleles; allele A (108 bp), allele B (142 bp), allele C (183 bp), allele D (227 bp), allele E (272 bp) and allele F (340 bp). Both allele E and F were specific genetic markers of Bayang duck. Alleles frequencies of the AY287 locus were as follow: allele C (26,93%), allele D (19,24%), allele A (15,38%), allele B (15,38%), allele E (15,38%) and allele F (7,69%). The AY283 locus has 6 alleles consisted of allele A (230 bp), allele B (320 bp), allele C (345 bp), allele D (390 bp), allele E (450 bp) and allele F (500 bp). Allele frequencies of this marker were allele B (20,51%), allele D (20,51%), allele E (20,51%), allele A (15,39%), allele C (15,39%), and allele F (7,69%), respectively. Our finding suggest that two microsatellite markers, AY287 and AY283, were polymorphic in Bayang duck population.Key words: Bayang duck, microsatellite, AY283, AY287

Abstract

The present study was designed to investigate the effect of feeding time restriction on compensatory growth and production efficiency of broiler chickens. Four hundred of 7 days-old unsexed broiler chicken of Lohmann commercial strain were used in the experiment. The treatments were: bird fed ad libitum as a control treatment (R-0); bird had free access to feed during two periods of 2 hours (08:00-10:00 and 16:00-18:00) from 7-14 days of age (R-1) and 7-21 days of age (R-2); bird had free access to feed during two periods of 4 hours (08:00-12:00 and 16:00-20:00) from 7-14 days of age (R-3) and 7-21 days of age (R-4). The treatments were arranged in a completely randomized design with 4 replications. Feed intake and body weight gain of chicken exposed to feeding time restriction on R-1, R-2, R-3 and R-4 were lower (P < 0.01) than those of chicken fed ad libitum. There were no significant different on feed intake and body weight gain during realimentation period. Compensatory growth occured on R-2 and R-4 during the 28 to 42 days of age and similar body weight  with control at age 42 days. Feed conversion ratio on R-2 and R-4 were lower (P < 0.01) feeding time restriction (7-21 days) and realimentation period (28-35 days). It was concluded that feeding time restriction for 8 hours per day from 7 to 21 days of age indicated compensatory growth and similar body weight and had better feed cost and production index than that of control.

Abstract

The present study was conducted to determine the effect of feeding time restriction on thyroid hormone and blood metabolites concentration of broiler chickens during feed restriction and realimentation period. Four hundred of 7 days-old unsexed broiler chicken of Lohmann commercial strain were arranged in a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and analyzed based on ANOVA. The treatments were: chicks fed ad libitum as a control treatment (R-0); chicks had free access to feed during two periods of 2 h (08:00-10:00 and 16:00-18:00) from 7-14 d of age (R-1) and 7-21 d of age (R-2); chicks had free access to feed during two periods of 4 h (08:00-12:00 and 16:00-20:00) from 7-14 d of age (R-3) and 7-21 d of age (R-4). The treatments consisted of 4 replicates with 20 chicks each. During feeding time restriction from 7 to 21 d of age, thyroid hormone and albumin plasma concentration of R-2 and R-4 were lower (P3 and T4) and blood metabolite (albumin) decreased during feeding time restriction for 4 and 8 h per d from 7 to 21 d of age and it returns to normal during realimentation period.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the timing of proper feeding of male hens and how to eat male hens to meet there daily needs. The feeding behavior parameters observed were screening observations (scores), number of strokes (times/5 minutes), feeding breaks at the time of observation (seconds), and the remaining feed in the drinking water (mg). The results of the variance analysis showed the percentage of feed amounting to the feeding time schedule had a significant effect (P<0.05) on screening results, number of stakes and residual feed in the drinking water but did not significantly (P>0.05) on feeding breaks. The results of the study showed that the screening score of 2.54-2.99, (noise at score skrining (2-3) the number of adlibitum pegs was 428.63 times/5 minuts and the difference in the percentage of administration was 488.24-541.50 times/5 minutes, eating breaks 207.59-235.64 seconds, and the remaining feed in the adlibitum drinking pot 8.32 mg and the results of the difference in the percentage of giving 11.58-17.78 mg. The concluded of the research, that the percentage of the amount of feeding with the time schedule of given affects the behavior of eating male hens. Male hens given adlibitum feed showed calmer eating behavior than chickens fed at percentages and mealtimes.
