Abstract

This study aims at finding out the effect on essays presented as handwritten and as computer printed text on raters' scores and whether the length of the essays influences the scoring. Twenty one (21) sample essays were randomly selected and produced by students of English Study Program of Lampung University. The essays were presented in three different formats: handwritten, computer text in single space, and computer text in double space. This research applied one shot case study design and the data were analyzed using one way ANOVA. The result revealed that handwritten essays received higher scores than those in computer printed texts. The F-value was 5.5 while the F-table was 5.05 and the p value was 0.006. It revealed that there was statistically different mean on raters scores. It is suggested that the future researchers to analyze the causes of presentation effect on raters scores and to apply the more valid strategies to reduce the presentation effect.Keywords: assessment, essays, handwritten, computer text, mode of presentation, raters

Abstract

Penelitian saat ini adalah mengetahui pengaruh berbagai jenis umpan balik terhadap kualitas menulis siswa. Penelitian quasi eksperimen yang digunakan adalah one group pre-test post-test design. Subjek penelitian adalah 108 siswa yang diambil dari tiga kelas. Data dianalisis oleh SPSS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan dalam tulisan siswa dengan menggunakan umpan balik guru, teman sebaya dan koreksi diri tetapi umpan balik korektif teman memberikan peningkatan yang lebih efektif daripada yang lain. Para siswa kebanyakan berfokus pada makna bukan bentuk. Selain poin-poin ini, umpan balik rekan mendorong siswa untuk menulis teks bermakna berbasis pembaca. Oleh karena itu, ini menyarankan bahwa para guru perlu waspada, dan bereksperimen dengan berbagai umpan balik dan strategi koreksi kesalahan yang sesuai untuk berbagai tingkat dan siswa The current research was to find out the effect of different types of feedback on the students' writing quality. The quasi-experimental research used is one group pre-test post-test design. The subject was 108 students taken from three classes. The data were analyzed by SPSS. The result showed that there is an improvement in the students’ writing by using teacher, peer and self-corrective feedback, but peer corrective feedback gives more effective improvement than the others. The students mostly focused on meaning not form. Besides these points, peer feedback encouraged the students to write reader-based meaningful texts. Therefore, this suggested that the teachers need to be aware and do the experiment with a wider range of feedback and error-correction strategies which are appropriate for different levels and students.Keywords: Corrective feedback, quality, writing.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur prestasi menulis dan interaksi mahasiswa setelah diterapkannya teknik berpikir, berpasangan, berbagi (think pair share technique) yang digunakan pada pengajaran prestasi menulis (writing). Pendekatan kuantitatif dan kualitatif yang melibatkan tiga puluh empat siswa SMP kelas tujuh. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan mencakup tes kemampuan menulis, lembar observasi, serta serangkaian kuesioner terkait teknik think pair share. Validitas test tulis berdasarkan validitas isi dan validitas konstruk, sementara reliabilitas kuesioner dianalisa dengan menggunakan formula Cronbach Alpha. Data dianalisis menggunakan Repeated Measures T-Test dan One Way Anova. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya pengaruh positif pada kemampuan menulis serta partisipasi siswa antara setelah diterapkannya teknik think pair share dalam pengajaran menulis. Temuan ini membuktikan bahwa implementasi teknik think pair share memberikanpengaruh positif dalam meningkatkan prestasi menulis serta memacu interaksi yang baik.The aims of this research are to investigate the students’ participation and writing achievement after incorporating Think Pair Share technique in teaching writing. This research was carried out quantitatively and qualitatively and involved thirty four students of grade seventh of junior high school level. The used instruments were writing test, observation sheet, and think pair share questionnaires. The validity of writing tests was based on content and construct validity, while the reliability of the questionnaire was analyzed by using Cronbach Alpha Formula. The data were analyzed using Repated Measures T-Test and One way Anova. It was found that there was a positive effect in the students’ writing achievement and their participation after the implementation of incorporating think pair share technique in teaching writing. The findings prove that the implementation of think pair share technique gave benefits succesfully in improving students’ writing achievement and producing the constructive and promotive participation.Keywords: Participation, think pair share technique, writing achievement.

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to find out whether there was any improvement on students’ analytical exposition text writing achievement, and their perceptions after the implementation of blended learning through WhatsApp group chat. This research was a quantitative research which was conducted through a one group pre-test and post-test design. The subjects of this research were thirty five students in SMA Negeri 1 Terbanggi Besar. The data were collected through pre- and post-tests in the forms of analytical exposition text and a questionnaire. The data were analyzed by using Paired Samples T-Test and descriptive statistics. The students’ writing achievement were compared between the pre and the post test. The result showed that there was statistically significant improvement of the students’ writing achievement after they were taught through blended learning by WhatsApp group chat. It could be seen from the computation of Paired Samples T-Test where the T-value (8.628) was higher than t-table (2.032) with the significance level of 0.00. Therefore, their perceptions toward blended learning through WhatsApp group chat in terms of five aspects of writing were also positive. Then this research proved that blended learning is effective to be implemented in developing and improving students’ writing achievement.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian adalah untuk menyelidiki apakah perbedaan tipe-tipe pra- tugas (repetisi dan perencanaan strategi) menghasilkan kinerja berbicara siswa yang berbeda di dalam CAF. Peniliaian berulang terhadap satu grup digunakan di dalam penelitian ini.  Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah 30 mahasiswa IAIN Raden Intan Lampung. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan signifikan secara statistik dari kinerja berbicara siswa di dalam CAF diantara dua jenis pra- tugas dengan level signifikan kurang dari 0.05. Yaitu tugas repetisi menghasilkan lebih komplek dan lancar di dalam produksi lisan daripada tugas perencanaan strategi. Sebaliknya, tugas perencanaan strategi  menghasilkan lebih ketelitian di dalam ucapan-ucapan siswa daripada tugas repetisi. Hasil penelitian ini menyarankan bahwa tugas repetisi memfasilitasi siswa untuk meningkatkan kekompleksitasan  dan  kelancaran  ucapan  menjadi  lebih  baik  lagi.  Kemudian, tugas perencanaan strategi mengarahkan siswa untuk lebih memperhatikan ketelitian di dalam memproduksi bahasa.The objective of the research was to investigate whether the different types of pre- tasks (rehearsal and strategic planning tasks) result in different students’ speaking performances in terms of CAF. One group repeated measure was used in this study. The subjects of the research were 30 students of IAIN Raden Intan Lampung. The results showed that there was a statistically significant difference of the students’ speaking performances in terms of CAF between two types of the pre-tasks with the significant level less than 0.05. That is, the rehearsal task generated more complex and fluent oral production than the strategic planning task. On the other hand, the strategic planning task produced more accurate in the students’ utterances than the rehearsal task. This suggests that the rehearsal task facilitates the students to improve better complex and fluent utterances. Then, the strategic planning task leads the students to pay more accurate language production.Keywords: Accuracy, complexity, fluency, rehearsal task, speaking skills, strategic planning task.

Abstract

Perkembangan Abad 21 menuntut kesiapan guru dalam berkontribusi dan berkompetisi dalam persaingan dunia global. Guru dituntut memfasilitasi pembelajaran yang didorong oleh perkembangan abad 21, meliputi: (1) capaian kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi siswa, (2) beragam materi ajar yang lebih kompleks dan sulit, (3) standard proses pembelajaran, dan (4) transformasi aspek sosial, ekonomi, politik, dan budaya. Tujuan kegiatan adalah untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan kemampuan guru SD di Kota Bandar Lampung dalam menyusun perangkat pembelajaran berbasis keterampilan abad 21. Metode yang digunakan yaitu metode informatif-partisipatif, yaitu metode yang menghendaki para guru untuk memiliki wawasan secara teoritis dan praktis dalam penyusunan perangkat pembelajaran berbasis keterampilan abad 21 melalui tahap kegiatan penyajian informasi, diskusi dan simulasi atau latihan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa capaian kemampuan akhir peserta pelatihan mencapai 83,2% baik sekali, 12,47 baik dan peserta kemampuan akhirnya kurang sekitar 4,33%. Capaian tersebut mengindikasikan bahwa pelatihan telah berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan guru dalam menyusun perangkat pembelajaran berbasis keterampilan abad 21. DOI: https://doi.org/10.23960/rp/v1i2.hal.88-95

Abstract

AbstrakPandemi Covid-19 yang melanda seluruh dunia di tahun 2020 yang hingga saat ini masih berlangsung berdampak sangat kuat ke semua sektor, tidak terkecuali sektor pendidikan. Pembelajaran Online mau tidak mau menjadi salah satu alternatif yang harus dijalankan oleh pemangku kebijakan untuk terus dapat melanjutkan kegiatan belajar mengajar. Saat ini, dengan dimulainya pembelajaran tatap muka terbatas, maka guru tetap harus memanfaatkan teknologi untuk menggabungkan pembelajaran Online dan Offline yang juga lebih dikenal dengan Blended Learning. Pengabdian ini menggunakan metode pelatihan dan dilaksanakan secara Online dan Offline. Sasaran dari kegiatan ini adalah guru SD dan TK yang mengajar Bahasa Inggris di kota Bandar Lampung. Berdasarkan hasil dari kegiatan ini, lebih dari 85% peserta mampu mengaplikasikan Google Classroom dan juga Zoom Meeting. Selain itu, peserta juga mampu membuat materi pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris bagi anak-anak yang dapat diaplikasikan baik secara Online maupun Offline.Kata Kunci: bahasa inggris; blended learning; guru; SD; TK AbstractThe Covid-19 pandemic that hit the whole world in 2020, which is still occuring, has had a tremendous impact on all sectors, including the education sector. Online learning inevitably becomes one of the alternatives that must be carried out by policy makers to allow teaching and learning activities to continue. Currently, with the start of limited face-to-face learning, teachers still have to utilize technology to combine online and offline learning, which is also known as Blended Learning. This service uses training methods and is carried out online and offline. The target of this activity is elementary and kindergarten teachers who teach English in the city of Bandar Lampung. Based on the results of this activity, more than 85% of participants were able to apply to Google Classroom and also Zoom Meeting. Abstract

The aims of the study are to find out whether there is a significant difference in students' achievement of conditional sentences between those who are taught using modified PPP procedure through WhatsApp and those who are taught using original PPP procedure in limited offline learning. The population was the students of SMKN 1 Metro. This study is quasi-experimental, and the sampling was taken in two classes. The experimental class was given the treatment using a modified PPP procedure through WhatsApp. In contrast, the control class was given the treatment using the original PPP procedure in limited offline learning. The findings showed a significant difference in students' achievement of conditional sentences between those two procedures, which is in line with the difference in students' perception of the learning process between those two classes. Modified one was more effective in improving students' achievement of conditional sentences, especially in pandemic Covid 19, where online learning is necessary. The conclusion is that the modification of the PPP procedure through WhatsApp is very effective to use even after the pandemic, because there are more opportunities for students to discuss using WhatsApp which makes them gain a deeper understanding and better achievement of the conditional sentence material.
