Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan Sentence Combining Practice pada prestasi siswa dalam menulis teks deskriptif. Sampel dari penelitian ini adalah 35 siswa kelas X.4 yang dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik lotere. Instrumen untuk mengumpulkan data adalah tes tertulis. Rumus Pearson Product Moment diaplikasikan untuk memperoleh keandalan tes. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa keandalan pre-test adalah 0,81 dikategorikan sebagai keandalan sangat tinggi, sementara keandalan post-tes adalah 0.70 dikategorikan kehandalan tinggi. Setelah menganalisis data, ditemukan bahwa nilai t observed adalah -9,575 dengan derajat kebebasan (df) = 34 pada tingkat signifikansi (a = 0,05). Ini berarti bahwa t observed lebih tinggi dari t (9,575 2,0301). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Sentence Combining Practice memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap prestasi siswa dalam menulis teks deskriptif.This study aimed to discover the effect of applying Sentence Combining Practice on students achievement in writing descriptive text. The samples of the research were 35 students of class X.4 which were chosen by using lottery technique. The instrument for collecting the data was a writing test. Pearson Product Moment formula was applied to obtain the reliability of the test. Based on the calculation, it showed that the reliability of the pre-test was 0.81 categorized as very high reliability, meanwhile reliability of the post test was 0.70 categorized as high reliability. After analyzing the data, it was found that the value of t was -9.575 with the degree of freedom (df)=34 at the level of significance (a = 0.05). It meant that t observed was higher than t (9.575 2.0301). The result of this study showed that Sentence Combining Practice had a significant effect on students achievement in writing descriptive text.Keyword: writing, descriptive text, sentence combining practice

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat apakah ada peningkatan yang signifikan terhadap kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks deskripsi dan melihat aspek manakah yang paling meningkat setelah penerapan teknik mind mapping. Sasaran penelitian ini mencakup 25 siswa kelas VIII A di MTs N 3 Lampung Utara tahun akademik 2018/2019. Tes menulis yang mencakup pretest dan posttest diberikan sebagai alat untuk mengumpulkan data. Data yang diperoleh berupa nilai kemudian dianalisis menggunakan repeated measure T-test dengan tingkat signifikan p0.05. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa setelah mereka diajarkan menulis menggunakan teknik mind mapping. Aspek yang paling meningkat adalah aspek konten.Hasil ini menunjukan bahwa mengajar menggunakan teknik mind mapping dapat diterapkan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks deskripsi. The objectives of this research were to find out whether there was significant improvement on students’ writing skill of descriptive text and which aspect of writing improved the most after the implementation mind of mapping technique. The subjects of the research were 25 students of class VIII A at MTs N 3 Lampung Utara in academic year 2018/2019. The writing tests consisted of pretest and posttest were applied to collect the data. The data in form of score were analysed by using repeated measure T-test with the significant level p0.05. The result showed that there was significant improvement on students’ writing skill after they had been taught by using mind mapping technique. The aspect which improved the most was content. This suggests that teaching writing by using mind mapping technique can be applied to improve students’ skill in writing descriptive text. Keywords: writing, descriptive text, mind mapping technique.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada i) peningkatan yang signifikan dalam pencapaian berbicara siswa setelah penerapan media video, ii) respon siswa terhadap pembelajaran menggunakan video. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 30 siswa tingkat kedua SMA. Pre-tes dan pos-tes dilakukan untuk mengumpulkan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa adanya peningkatan yang signifikan dalam pencapaian berbicara siswa setelah penerapan media video dangan tingkat signifikan 0.00. Ini menunjukan bahwa media video dapat membantu siswa menigkatkan pencapaian berbicara mereka. Mayoritas siswa juga memberikan respon yang positif terhadap pembelajaran berbicara melalui video.  This research was aimed at finding out whether there i) was statistically significant improvement of students’ speaking achievement after the implementation of media of video,ii) the students’ responses on learning speaking through video. This research was quantitative research. The subjects of this research were 30 students of the second year of SMA. Speaking tests in the forms of the pre-test and the post-test were employed to collect the data. The results showed that there was statistically significant improvement of the students’ speaking achievement after the implementation of video with the significant level 0.00. This indicates that media of video help students improve their speaking achievement.The majority of students also showed that they gave positive responses on the process of teaching speaking through video. Keywords: improving, speaking, video.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana etnis budaya mempengaruhi pemahaman siswa terhadap teks legenda Lampung. Partisipan penelitian ini adalah sembilan siswa di SMA yang terdapat tiga etnis budaya, yaitu Lampung, Jawa, dan Batak. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes esai dengan menggunakan dua legenda yang berbeda. Berdasarkan data analisis spiral, hasil menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh etnis budaya dari setiap siswa dalam memahami dan mendeskripsikan pemahaman siswa melalui tes esai. Perbedaan jawaban antara siswa bersuku Lampung, Jawa, dan Batak dilihat dari bagaimana cara mereka menjelaskan pemahaman mereka terhadap legenda yang sama. Siswa Lampung memiliki pandangan yang sederhana terdapat legenda Danau Ranau, sementara siswa Jawa menilai dari segi karakter yang ada di legenda tesebut. Berbeda lagi dengan siswa Batak yang cukup kompleks dalam menjelaskan pandangannya terhadap legenda Danau Ranau. Berdasarkan hal ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa etnis budaya dapat memengaruhi pemahaman siswa terhadap legenda Lampung.This study is aimed at finding out how ethnic backgrounds influenced students understanding on Lampung legends. The participants were nine students of senior high school that there are three ethnicities. They are Lampungese, Javanese, and Batakese. The data were collected through essay tests with two different legends. Based on the spiral data analysis, the result showed that there was an influence of students ethnic background in understanding and describing students understanding through the essay tests. The difference of answer among Lampungese, Javanese, and Batakese could be seen from how they described their understanding on the same legend. Lampungese students had a simple view for Ranau Lake legend, while Javanese students prefered to seeing the characters of the story. Batakese students had a complex mind in describing their view toward Ranau Lake legend. This suggests that ethnic backgrounds lead to influence students understanding of Lampung legends.Keywords: Ethnic Background, Legends, Understanding.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis masalah yang dihadapi siswa ketika belajar mendengarkan dengan diskusi kelompok dan aspek keterampian mendengarkan yang lebih baik dari keterampilan yang lain. Penelitian kualitatif ini dilakukan di kelas VIII F. Peneliti memeroleh data melalui kuesioner, pre-test dan post-test. Data dianalisa dengan cara menginterpretasi, menghitung nilai rata-rata dan membandingkan nilai siswa antara keterampilan macro dan micro di pre-test dan post-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa terdapat lima masalah utama yang dihadapi siswa yaitu, mengobrol saat berdiskusi, teman yang tidak berkontribusi, teman yang mendominasi, teman kelompok, tidak ingin menjadi ketua kelompok. Kesimpulannya, masalah dalam diskusi disebabkan oleh kondisi diskusi yang tidak mendukung dan keahlian makro bisa tampil lebih baik karena adanya schemata di proses top-down.The aims of this research were to analyse the problems faced by the students when studying listening in group discussion and to analyse which particular aspect of listening skill performed better than the other skill. This qualitative research used class VIII F. The researcher gained the data from questionnaire, pre-test and post-test. The data were analysed by interpreting, calculating the average, and comparing of students’ answer both macro and micro-skills in pre-test and post-test. The results showed that there were five major problems faced by students they were: chatting another topic while discussing, not-contributing member, dominant friend, group-mate, willingness to be a leader of discussion. In listening skills, the students performed better in macro-skills than in micro-skills. In conclusion, problems in discussion can be caused by the imperfect condition of discussion and macro-skills can perform better because of the existence of schemata in the top-down process.Keywords. group discussion, listening, macro and micro-skills

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat adakah perbedaan signifikan kemampuan berbicara siswa setelah diajar dengan picture series dan melihat jenis picture series yang paling efektif untuk mengajar speaking. Subjek terdiri dari 30 siswa kelas X dari SMAN. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain time series dengan memberikan 3 kali pre-test, 3 kali perlakuan, dan tiga kali post-test. Peneliti menggunakan 2 rater untuk menilai penampilan berbicara siswa. Pair sample t-test digunakan untuk menganalisis data kuantitatif dan hipotesis dengan SPSS (16.0). Hasil analisa pertama 11.031 (t-value) 2.048, analisa kedua 14.955 (t-value) 2.048 (t-table), analisa ketiga 23.108 (t-value) 2.048 (t-table), hasilnya menunjukan ada perbedaan signifikan pada kemampuan berbicara siswa setelah diajar dengan picture series. Dari ketiga picture series, jenis picture series dari google image adalah yang paling efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa.The aims of this research were to find out whether there is any significant difference of students speaking ability after being taught by using picture series and to know which one of picture series is effective for teaching speaking. The subjects of this research consisted of 30 students of SMAN Grade X. The study employed times series design by giving three pre-tests, three treatments, and three post-tests. There were two raters to judge the students speaking performance. Pair sample t-test was used to analyze the quantitative data and the hypothesis testing was computed using SPSS (16.0). The result is 1st pair 11.031 (t-value) 2.048, 2nd pair 14.955 (t-value) 2.048 (t-table), 3rd pair 23.108 (t-value) 2.048 (t-table) means that there are significant differences of students speaking ability after being taught by using picture series. Regarding the three picture series given, the picture series from google image is the most effective in improving speaking ability.Keywords: improvement, picture series, speaking performance

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan pada kemampuan siswa dalam kemampuan pemahaman membaca teks naratif setelah belajar melalui strategi story grammar. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Sasaran penelitian sebanyak 33 siswa. Tes membaca digunakan sebagai alat untuk pengambilan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa adanya perbedaan signifikan pada kemampuan siswa dalam membaca teks naratif dengan tingkat signifikansi 0.000.05. Dapat disarankan bahwa strategi story grammar memberikan siswa latihan yang konsisten yang dapat membantu mereka dalam mengorganisir informasi dari teks bacaan.The objective of this research was to find out whether there was a statistically significant difference of students reading comprehension ability after they were taught through story grammar strategy. This research was quantitative. The subjects of the research were 33 students at the third grade of SMP Al-Huda Jatiagung. The instrument used was reading comprehension test. The result showed that there was a statistically significant difference of students reading comprehension of narrative text with significant level 0.000.05. This suggests that story grammar strategy gives the students continuous and consistent training in order to aid them in organizing the information from reading text.Keywords: reading comprehension, story grammar strategy, and narrative text.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan pada kemampuan siswa dalam pemahaman membaca teks naratif setelah belajar menggunakan strategi CSR. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Sasaran penelitian ini adalah 34 siswa tingkat kedua di SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Bandar Lampung. Tes membaca digunakan sebagai alat untuk pengambilan data. Analisis data menggunakan paired sample t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan signifikan pada kemampuan siswa dalam membaca teks naratif dengan tingkat signifikansi 0.000.05. Dapat disarankan bahwa pengajaran membaca menggunakan strategi CSR dapat membantu siswa untuk menemukan infromasi pada teks dengan mudah.The aim of this research was to find out whether there was a statistically significant difference of students reading comprehension ability of narrative texts after the students were taught through CSR strategy. Abstract

Penilitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada i) peningkatan yang signifikan secara statistik dari prestasi berbicara siswa setelah diajar melalui permainan papan, ii) aspek berbicara apakah yang meningkat setelah diajar melalui permainan papan. Penilitian ini dilakukan di SMPN 22 Bandarlampung. Sampel penilitian ini adalah 20 siswa di kelas VIII B. Instrument yang digunakan untuk mendapatkan data dalam penilitian ini adalah tes berbicara yang dinilai oleh dua orang penilai. Pre-tes dan pos-tes dilakukan untuk mengumpulkan data sebelum dan sesudah implementasi permainan papan. Paired Sample T-Test digunakan untuk menganalisis data dan pengujian hipotesis dihitung menggunakan SPSS versi 16 pada tingkat signifikansi p 0.05. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan prestasi berbicara siswa yang signifikan secara statistik. Ini menunjukkan bahwa mengajar berbicara melalui permainan papan mendorong siswa untuk berbicara bahasa Inggris dengan cara yang lebih menyenangkan.This study was aimed to find out whether there i) was a statistically significant increase of students’ speaking achievement after the students were taught through board games, ii) what aspects of speaking improved the most after the students were taught through board games. This research was conducted in SMPN 22 Bandarlampung. The subjects of this research were 20 students in class VIII B. The instrument used to get the data in this research was speaking test scored by two raters. Speaking tests in the forms of pre-test and post-test were employed to collect the data before and after implementation the board game. Paired Sample T-Test was used to analyze the data, and the hypothesis testing was computed using SPSS version 16 at the significance level of p 0.05. The result showed that there was a statistically significant increase of the students’ speaking achievement. This suggests that teaching speaking through board game encourages the students to speak English in more enjoyable way.Keywords: Increasing, Speaking, Board Games.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan pada tingkat pencapaian keterampilan berbicara siswa setelah diajarkan menggunakan teknik Mingle Game. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian yaitu 36 siswa kelas XI IPA 5 SMAN 1 Bandar Lampung. Test keterampilan berbicara digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data mengenai pencapaian keterampilan berbicara siswa. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada pencapaian keterampilan berbicara siswa antara pre-test dan posttest setelah penggunaan teknik Mingle Game dengan tingkat signifikansi p0.05 (p=.000). Hal ini menandakan bahwa teknik Mingle Game dapat membantu siswa untuk meningkatkan pencapaian keterampilan berbicara dalam bahasa inggris.The aim of this study was to explore if there is a significant difference of students speaking achievement after they were taught by using Mingle Game.
