The data were in form of scores taken from pretest and posttest. The result indicated that there was an improvement of students’ reading ability viewed from the pretest to posttest score (30.72 to 57.82) after they had been taught using mind mapping technique. Besides, a set of questionnaire was used to find out the students’ responses toward the mind mapping technique. It was found that majority of the students had positive responses toward the mind mapping technique. Thus, it can be concluded that Mind Mapping technique facilitates the students to improve their reading ability.DOI: https://dx.doi.org/10.23960/UJET.v10.i1.202105

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out whether there is a significant correlation between students’ morphological awareness and their accuracy in writing recount text. This is quantitative research by using ex-post facto design. The population of the research was the students of the first grade of SMAN 1 Way Jepara. The researcher took five students from each ten classes as sample by using lottery, so total sample of students were 50. There were two instruments; the first test was morphological awareness test adapted from McBride-Chang et al. (2005) and Zakaria (2008) and the second test was writing a recount text test for measuring the students’ accuracy in writing. The data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation in SPSS version 25. The result of the correlation analysis showed there was a significant correlation between students’ morphological awareness and their accuracy in writing recount text with coefficient correlation was higher than the critical value (0.7980.297) at significant level .01. It means that the H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. It can be concluded that morphological awareness influenced students’ accuracy. Keywords: Correlation, Morphological Awareness, Accuracy in Writing.doi: https://dx.doi.org/10.23960/UJET.v10.i3.2021x3

It happened because the mean score of the questionnaire was 3.67 to 5.00. the range score indicates that the level of students’ perception is on the high level. This study also found out that there are several challenges of the students faced when using online assessment in Google Classroom, those are; time, internet connection, the system problems and about the controller. Based on the research finding above, it be concluded that there are strengths and weaknesses toward the implementation o online assessment. Abstract

The primary goals of this research are to investigate the students’ writing apprehension level after being taught through WhatsApp in online learning setting and to find out the correlation between writing apprehension and writing achievement. This study was carried out quantitatively and involved one class of grade X which consisted of thirty-five students. The data was collected through English Writing Test and Writing Apprehension Test, a questionnaire that was developed by Daly and Miller (1975). To test the hypotheses, paired sample t-test and Pearson correlation analysis were applied. The finding of paired sample t-test revealed that there was a significant reduction in the students’ writing apprehension level after the implementation of WhatsApp in online writing classes. Meanwhile, for the correlational analysis, it was done three times to obtain more specific results; the correlation of the data before the treatment, the correlation of the data after the treatment, and the correlation of gain scores of the data. The results showed respectively that two correlational analyses had very high correlation and the last one had an average correlation. Furthermore, all findings showed significant negative correlation; meaning that there was a significant inverse relationship between writing apprehension and writing achievement. This implied that the lower the level of writing apprehension is, the higher the score of writing achievement would be. In conclusion, the implementation of WhatsApp in online writing class is effective to improve students' writing achievement and effective to reduce students’ writing apprehension in Indonesian EFL students.

Abstract

Teaching is a dynamic process that involves a quick decision-making process and is also an activity that refers to what students need. This decision-making process often appears as a reflection of what the teacher believes and also as a reflection of the theory adopted by the institution where the teacher works. This can then be said as evidence to claim that the concept (belief) that is believed by the teacher influences the decisions about learning practices and influences the activities that the teacher does in the classroom. Every teacher has belief as a basic reference that they believe in teaching as well as a reference for overcoming obstacles that occur in the teaching and learning process in the classroom. This study will examine whether there is a difference between perceptions language teacher of English in the Faculty of Economics and Business and the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education in Unila. This study uses English lecturer as the sample from two different faculties in Unila. The questionnaire is distributed to selected respondents and will then be analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. Keywords: Teaching belief, perception, English Lecturer, EFL.

Abstract

The research is aimed at investigating the correlation between students’ motivation and their English speaking ability. The research samples were thirty-six first year students of SMAN 2 Bandar Lampung that were randomly selected by using lottery. Students’ motivation scores were calculated by using four-Likert-scale questions and their English speaking ability was tested by using transactional speaking test using criteria proposed by Heaton (1991). The results of motivation questionnaire showed that the highest score was 145 and the lowest score was 77 with the average of 111. 4. It was found out that 5. 5% students have high motivation, 60. 5 % students have average motivation, and 25% students have low motivation. It means that most of the students have good motivation. English speaking test scores showed that the average of students’ English speaking ability was 80.2 with the highest score of 90 and the lowest score of 73. It can be concluded that the students have very good ability in speaking English. The results showed that the coefficient correlation was 0.780 and it was significant where r-value of 0.780 was larger than the r-table of 0.334. It was also found out that motivation influenced English speaking ability with the score of 60.8 %. This means that motivation as a psychological factor has a positive correlation with English speaking ability. Students who had high level of motivation did more efforts and had more determination to reach their goals. On the contrary, students who had low level of motivation did not do more efforts in learning and in achieving their goals so that their speaking ability was low.  Keywords: motivation, English speaking ability, correlation
