Abstract

Purung ta Kadongan Ratu is one of the rites in the Marapu belief system in Central Sumba. This rite is carried out regularly by the people of Sumba, including those who are Catholics. Does this rite have a correlation (faith) with the celebration of the Eucharist in the Catholic Church? This paper aims to find and explain the relationship between the meaning of thanksgiving in the purung ta Kagawanga Ratu rite and the celebration of the Eucharist in the Catholic Church. This study uses a qualitative approach with interviews and documentation methods. The research subjects were elders/traditional actors/heirs, community leaders, and humanists in Central Sumba, who had in-depth knowledge of the purung ta Kakaongan Ratu rite. Data analysis uses the Miles and Huberman model, which includes three stages of activity namely data reduction, data display, and making conclusions. The results of the analysis reveal that the rites of the purung ta Kangkang Ratu have similarities and differences with the celebration of the Eucharist in the Catholic Church. The similarities between these two celebrations are as a celebration of thanksgiving for the success and blessings that God has given to humans, as a celebration that unites the faithful in a communion, and as a celebration full of symbols. While the differences are in the naming of the "form" of the purpose of thanksgiving, the implementation of the rites, and the sacrificial materials used. These findings have implications for the practice of Catholic faith education and further research.

Abstract

The 21st-century education emphasizes a number of indicators that teachers, students, parents, and other education stakeholders should completely understand. English teachers should be encouraged to be able to integrate the intended 21st-century competency indicators into instructional materials that are preceded by a needs analysis stage. Needs analysis is crucial in designing English materials as it serves as a valuable tool for practitioners to create English materials aligned with students' target and learning needs. As a consequence, needs analysis is seen as a necessary component of the teaching practice. The purposes of this study are to examine and reveal the numerous types of students' target needs and learning needs for English material development. This study examined two English lecturers and 206 students enrolled in the primary education department. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire and the data were analyzed using a software program, namely an excel chart data series. Findings indicated that the students' target needs included necessities, lacks, and wants, whereas learning needs included input, procedure, setting, learner's role, and lecturer's role in the teaching-learning process. Students' target and learning needs emphasized the importance of developing English materials that boosted 21st-century education skills. English materials should be adjusted to meet the needs of students' future careers, with a particular emphasis on the eleven sub-skills of 21st-century education.

Abstract

Pastoral activity is a form of Church service to the lives of the people. Harmony and solidarity are basic attitudes necessary to live in a pluralist community. These attitudes can create social cohesion between members of the school community. However, the implementation of these attitudes depends on the policies, pedagogical models and habits carried out in schools. This study aims to describe the roles, challenges and pedagogical efforts of Catholic Religious Education teachers to increase harmony and solidarity between students. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The data collection methods are interviews, observations, and documentation. The research informants included school principals, PAK teachers, parents, and students. The results of the interview were analyzed using three steps, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of the analysis found three points: 1) The Catholic religious education teachers have a direct and indirect role in efforts to increase harmony and solidarity between students; 2) The Catholic religious education teachers did not find any serious obstacles in the implementation of harmony and solidarity between students; Small obstacles occur when students have varied parents' economic backgrounds, so the process of adjusting students in school takes a relatively long time; 3) The Catholic religious education teachers' efforts to overcome obstacles to living in harmony and solidarity are to create a variety of activities that involve many students. Based on these findings, suggestions for improving the implementation of The Catholic religious education learning and further research are formulated.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of interfaith relations and religious tolerance among students and lecturers in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia—a pluralistic region known for its strong communal values and peaceful coexistence. The research aims to uncover how everyday interfaith interactions, embedded in local traditions, contribute to maintaining religious harmony amidst global trends of rising extremism and polarisation. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 961 respondents across 47 universities through a structured questionnaire. Statistical analyses, including descriptive statistics and one-way ANOVA, were conducted to explore patterns of interfaith engagement, negative experiences, and exclusivist attitudes. Findings indicate a high frequency of positive interreligious interactions and minimal negative experiences such as discrimination or exclusion. Both students and lecturers strongly reject religious exclusivism and violence, with lecturers demonstrating slightly higher tolerance levels. Based on these insights, the study introduces the NTT Interfaith Pluralism Model, which comprises four core principles: interpersonal proximity, cultural anchoring, mutual visibility, and educational responsibility. These principles reflect how religious harmony in NTT is sustained through daily practices, local wisdom, and the role of educators as moral exemplars. The study offers practical implications for fostering inclusive religious environments, especially in multi-faith societies across the Global South. Rather than focusing solely on policy or formal dialogues, this model highlights the power of informal social interaction and community-embedded ethics. The originality of this research lies in its context-sensitive approach and contribution to understanding pluralism in peaceful settings, offering a scalable and replicable framework for other plural societies.
