Abstract

Pintu Ngalau cave is flowed by river from irrigated rice fields that flows into the cave. This cave has a source of organic matter derived from bats and swallow dirts, litter that falls on enterance of the cave and the organic material carried by the flow of the river. The study on the macrozoobenthos communities of river in Pintu Ngalau Cave has been conducted from October until November 2016. The study used survey method, where stratified random sampling was applied in three zones (light zone, dim zone and dark zone) at study site. Macrozoobenthos samples was collected by surber net. This study also measured the physic-chemical of water. The results showed the composition of macrozoobenthos in the Pintu Ngalau cave river consisted of 43 genera i.e Gastropods (2 genera), Hirudinea (2 genera), Insects (36 genera) and Oligochaetas (3 genera). Total density of macrozoobenthos in this site was 2100 ind/m2 and the highest density was found in dark zone. The highest total relative density (KR total=79,89%) on genus level at every zone was Hydropsyche. Diversity index of macrozoobenthos was classified as medium (H'=2.68) with evenness distribution was evenly (E=0.61) and no dominant genus (C=0.14). The existence of macrozoobenthos was not influenced by light intensity, but instead was more influence by the condition of the substrate and the flow of water in the cave.

Abstract

Population of Bilih Fish (Mystacoleucus padangensis) in Singkarak Lake has decreased as the effect of intensive exploitation and changes in water use function. Many appropriate works have been conducted for the fish conservation. One of them is introducing Bilih fish population to a new habitat,  Toba Lake. After nine years of releasing the fish, there was a hypothesis that these fish had undergone some changes on their morphology compared to their original population in Singkarak Lake. The changes could occure in some morphological characters and also the increase or decrease of their growth. This study was aimed at comparing morphology characters between Bilih fish introduced to Toba Lake with the original population in Singkarak Lake. Survey method was used and 400 samples of fish were taken from each Singkarak and Toba Lakes.  Parameters measured were 29 morphological characters. Data were analyzed using Mann Whitney U Test with SPSS 22. The results showed that 27 morphological characters of introduced fish had changed. Characters that had not changed were dorsal fin (anterior end)-anal fin distance (DFAF) and preanal distance (PD). Population of Bilih fish in Toba Lake might keep changing in the process of morphological character differentiation as long as environment factors still support the life of Bilih fish.

Abstract

Peat soil has the potential and is widely available to be used for shallot cultivation with good and proper management, peat land is classified as marginal land for various types of plants because the soil condition is saturated with water, reacts acidic and contains toxic organic acids and low nutrient status so the condition of plant root media that is not conducive to root development so that it becomes a limiting factor in shallot cultivation. Efforts to increase peatland productivity for shallot cultivation can be carried out by adding organic fertilizers and using rhizosphere microorganisms such as Abuscular Mycorrhizal  Fungi (AMF), this study aims to get a dose of organic fertilizer and AMF which can increase shallot production on peat soil. The research method used a separate experimental design (Split Plot) Completely Randomized Design  which consisted of 2 factors, namely: AMF treatment (M) main plot consisting of 2 levels (without AMF application and AMF application), the second factor was the dose of organic fertilizer (O) child plot consisting of 6 levels (0 tons ha-1 , 3 tons ha-1, 6 tons ha-1, 9 tons ha-1, 12 tons ha-1 and 15 tons ha-1) there were 12 treatments each repeated 3 times, which was carried out in January-April 2021 in Pontianak City with the parameters of observing plant height, number of leaves, number of tillers, harvested dry tuber weight, harvested dry plant weight and tuber diameter. and the number of leaves, while the AMF treatment independently had a significant effect on the observation of the number of tillers, the weight of harvested dry tubers, the weight of harvested dry plants and the treatment of organic fertilizer with a dose of 3 tons h-1 showed good results because they were not significantly different from the required mines 15, 12 and 6 tons ha-1 .

Abstract

The development of ecotourism in Kapalo Banda, Limau Manis, Padang, has potential to be expanded into agro-ecotourism through multi-stakeholder involvement. Key attractions include the scenic of river flows, agricultural cultivation, and stingless bee keeping, which support environmental sustainability and the local economy. With high vegetation diversity, the potential for stingless bee (galo-galo) breeding as a creative economic initiative offers new opportunities. This program aligns with the West Sumatra Provincial Government’s efforts to establish the area as a honey production center. However, challenges such as low colony production due to limited knowledge of farming techniques and the availability of flowering feed hinder its development. Through community engagement, empowerment activities were conducted from June to September 2024, including socialization, demonstrations, and training in bee farming techniques, supported by expert teams. Education focused on the potential of galo-galo and marketing strategies for local products. The results of this program indicate improved community skills and knowledge, supporting local economic sustainability and biodiversity conservation. Kapalo Banda partners have the potential to serve as a model for community empowerment based on natural resources, effectively enhancing community welfare. Multi-stakeholder involvement in developing Kapalo Banda Ecotourism has resulted in a series of activities ranging from cultivation preparation, colony propagation techniques, harvest preparation, to downstream processing and product marketing.
