Abstract

The concepts of curses and blessings are discussed not only in the Bible but also in the lives of church members today. Congregation members in Nalahia (of the Protestant Church in the Moluccas), as a research locus, always associate the concept of curses and blessings with traditional practices and daily life. Pilgrims who carry out their customary obligations will be blessed, while those who are negligent will be cursed. This study aims to reconstruct contextual theology regarding the understanding of curses and blessings from church members. Using qualitative research methods, data were collected from interviews with congregation members and analyzed dialectically with various contextual theological literature. The results of this study indicate that members of the local congregation who are still influenced by multi-layered cultural traditions understand their relationship with God and their ancestors in layers. Expressions of faith in a cultural context open reflections on the meaning of God's creations in the reality of human life, including in cultural practices. Contextual theology does not fall from the sky but is always dialectical with the context that produces the theology, including the cultural context.

Abstract

AbstractThis article examines the perspective of the Maneo community on land and forest as identity. Based on an oral tradition, the Maneo people understand land and forest as medium for meeting Lahatala (the supreme god, the creator, the sacred) and their ancestors to interconnect with other creations. The destruction and control of the land of the Maneo people not only destroy their lives and future but also harm their cultural and religious identities. Using a qualitative research method, this article studies Maneo people’s views on land and forests in relation to their existence and identity. Through the presentation of Maneo’s perspective on U’puna maisi’a yari maisi’a as an entry point, this study explores the realities of land tenure and forest destruction in Maneo, and the way the church responds to the situation. As a conclusion, this article offers a contextual theology about humanizing humans in the concept of Maneo society. Pertama-tama, penulis memperlihatkan perspektif orang Maneo tentang U’puna maisi’a yari maisi’a.

Abstract

This article is based on research aimed at understanding the perceptions of the millennial generation as first-time voters in the 2024 Indonesian General Election, while also exploring their concerns regarding participation in this democratic event. The study seeks to analyze high school students' perceptions of multiculturalism and identity politics through their roles as novice voters in the 2024 election. Employing a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from 100 high school students through surveys (questionnaires) and interviews, then classified and interpreted to gain insights into their perceptions of the role of first-time voters in the electoral process. The study reveals three key findings: perceptions of multiculturalism, perceptions of identity politics, and perceptions of agency-structure roles. The article concludes that first-time voters from the high school student demographic view youth political participation in Indonesia as a critical issue that warrants significant attention from the government. Strengthening their capacity as first-time voters ahead of the 2024 election is essential, particularly through enhancing their knowledge of democratic rights as citizens and introducing them to prospective leaders at both executive and legislative levels. This capacity-building effort is expected to foster a healthy political education environment that supports the sustainability of democracy and tolerance in Indonesia. Moreover, the study highlights the need to address the intensity and infiltration of identity politics narratives through social media, which have the potential to create social polarization, especially among Indonesia's younger generation.

Abstract

Abstract. Bullying in educational environments shows an increasingly high graph. Several studies have tried to map the reality of bullying in different contexts while tracing the triggering factors to be handled with various approaches. This article aimed to propose the Patita model of Christian Religious Education as a strategy to overcome the problem of bullying in higher education. This study addressed student groups at State and Private Universities in Ambon. The results of the study indicated that conventional approaches to the problem of bullying are not significant enough to restore traumatic memories experienced by victims and perpetrators of bullying. The Patita model offers a more humanistic and egalitarian approach so that the conversation space is more open and dialogical to discuss memories of bullying.
