Abstract

Cuts are wounds that occur due to being cut by a sharp instrument. Earthworms (Lumbricus rubellus Hoff.) contain antibacterial compounds, arachidonic acid and proteins that help the growth of skin tissue. The formulation in the form of a gel is easier to use and has soothing, moisturizing properties, and easily penetrates the skin so that it provides a healing effect. This study aims to determine the effect of earthworm flour gel on wound healing in mice (Mus muscullus L.). This type of research is an experimental study with a completely randomized design (CRD). A total of 20 male mice were divided into 5 groups, namely positive control (Kalmicetine 10%), negative control (without treatment), K1 (earthworm flour gel concentration 3%), K2 (earthworm flour gel concentration 4%) and K3 (earthworm flour gel with a concentration of 4%). earthworm flour 5% concentration). The results showed that the average length of time for wound healing for each group was 11.75 days or 282 hours for a 3% concentration, 11.25 days or 270 hours for a 4% concentration, and 11 days or 264 hours for a 5% concentration, compared to positive control (Kalmicetine). 10%) 12 days or 288 hours and negative control for 14 days or 336 hours. The results of the study concluded that earthworm (Lumbricus rubellus Hoff.) flour gel was effective in accelerating the healing of cuts.

Abstract

The integration of scientific concepts with religious values is an important aspect of developing holistic education, particularly in biology learning that aims not only to improve cognitive achievement but also to strengthen students’ spiritual attitudes. However, biology learning, especially on psychotropic materials, often remains focused on conceptual understanding and has limited connections with students’ real-life experiences and moral awareness. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of cooperative learning using the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach based on thematic Quranic verses on students’ learning outcomes and spiritual attitudes in psychotropic material. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a nonequivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of 27 students of class XI science at MAN 4 Bantul, divided into an experimental group and a control group. Data were collected through learning outcome tests and spiritual attitude questionnaires, while data analysis was conducted using validity, reliability, N-gain, paired sample t-test, and independent sample t-test. The results showed that the experimental class experienced greater improvement in learning outcomes with an N-gain score of 0.43 (medium category) compared with the control class with an N-gain score of 0.25 (low category). Statistical analysis revealed significant differences between groups, while the experimental class also demonstrated higher spiritual attitude scores. In conclusion, cooperative learning integrated with CTL and thematic Quranic verses effectively enhances students’ biological understanding and contributes to strengthening spiritual values in learning.

Abstract

Modern lifestyle changes have led to increased consumption of processed foods containing monosodium glutamate (MSG), which, at excessive doses, may induce oxidative stress and impair male reproductive function. This study investigated the fertility-related effects of red ginger rhizome extract (Zingiber officinale var. rubrum) on sperm quality in MSG-induced rats (Rattus norvegicus L.). The experimental study employed a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of four treatment groups with six replications: the control group received 1,600 mg MSG, while P1, P2, and P3 received red ginger extract at doses of 500, 750, and 1,000 mg/kg body weight (BW), respectively. MSG induction and extract administration were performed orally for 14 days, with the extract administered two hours after MSG exposure. On day 15, the rats were euthanized, and sperm quality parameters, including motility, viability, and morphology, were assessed. Data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by a least significant difference (LSD) post hoc test at ? = 0.05. The results demonstrated that red ginger extract significantly improved sperm quality impaired by MSG induction, with the greatest improvement observed at 1,000 mg/kg BW (P3): motility reached 88.89%, viability 83.89%, and normal morphology 82.79%. These findings suggest that red ginger may exert protective antioxidant effects against MSG-induced reproductive damage. This study contributes to the exploration of red ginger as a potential herbal intervention for supporting male reproductive health.
