Background: Andropause represents the symptoms and signs due to the lower rate of testosteron that happened slowly along with increasing the age. One of the symptoms is vasomotor disorder, that is called hot flashes. The presence of hot flashes can be result to insomnia in males with andropause. Number of andropauses prevalence which tend to high in some area in Indonesia can indicate the amount of adult men that suffer from insomnia. Method: This analytic qualitative observational study uses cross-sectional method was held in Subdistrict Jebres Surakarta. Subjects in this study are males with inclusion and exclusion criterias. Sixty males (above 40 years old) were chosen to participate in this study by purposive random sampling (30 males with andropause and 30 males without andropause). Data were collected through self-administered questionnaire. Collected data were analyzed using Chi Square (X2) test and Contingency Coefficient (C) test. Result: The data analysis, with ? = 0.05, shows p = 0.003 which means p < 0.05 and C = 0.36 or 36 %. Conclusion: There is a correlation between andropause and insomnia in males at Subdistrict Jebres Surakarta (p < 0.05, C = 0.36), where the number of insomnias prevalence is bigger at andropauses group. Keywords: andropause, insomnia, hot flashes

Abstract

Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a global and Indonesian health problem which is estimated to increase in the future. One of the long-term complications of diabetes mellitus is the presence of neuropathy which will cause erectile dysfunction. Hypertension often accompanies the presence of diabetes mellitus. Untreated hypertension in diabetes mellitus will worsen the incidence of erectile dysfunction. This happened because in hypertension occurs a vascular endothelial damage and decreased production of NO which is a major mediator of erection. Methods: This study was an observational analytic study with cross sectional approach held in August September 2014 in the Polyclinic of Internal Medicine RSUD Dr. Moewardi. Sampling was done by Purposive Random Sampling technique, selection was done by checking the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study sample. The number of samples in this study were 30 patients. Hereafter, the data obtained were statistically analyzed by Chi-Square test (X2). Results: The results of the Chi-Square tests analysis of the incidence of erectile dysfunction was obtained a significant differences between patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with hypertension and non-hypertension (p<0,05). Hypertension in diabetes mellitus increases the risk of erectile dysfunction by 9 times compared to non-hypertension (OR=9,750,p=0,008). Conclusions: There was a statistically significant difference of erectile dysfunction between patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with hypertension and non-hypertension. Hypertension in diabetes mellitus increases the risk of erectile dysfunction by 9,7 times compared to non-hypertension. Keywords: Diabetes Mellitus, Erectile Dysfunction, Hypertension

Abstract

Background: One important issue in education is academic achievement. Academic achievement can lead to satisfaction and continuity for further education while academic failure can result in delay in learning or even drop out. Some factors that can affect academic result are emotional intelligence as internal factor and parents education level (family factor) as external factor. This study aims to prove the existence of relations among emotional intelligence, parents education level and academic achievement index of senior students of Faculty of Medicine, Sebelas Maret University Surakarta. Methods: This study was an observational analytic research with cross sectional approach, held in July August 2014 in Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta. The sampling method used was total sampling and selection was done by checking the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study sample. The numbers of subjects in this study were 214 students. Hereafter, the data obtained were analyzed statistically by multiple linear regression test and F test. Results: The results of the F test analysis with the number of significance ? = 0.05 obtained value of p < 0.05 with a regression line equation Y = 2,660 + 0,004 X1 + 0,010 X2. Conclusions: There is a significant relationship simultaneously between emotional intelligence, level of parents education and index of student achievement. If there is no emotional intelligence and parents education level, the achievement index is equal to 2.660. Index of student achievement changed by 0.004 for each unit change in the variables of emotional intelligence and changed by 0.010 for every unit change in the level of parents' education variable. Keywords: Emotional Intelligence, Parents Education Level, Academic Achievement Index

Abstract

Background: Andropause in men can be caused by large waist circumference. The population of Asian countries, including Indonesia, tends to undergo an increase of waist circumference. This study is aimed to compare the occurrence of andropause between men with large and normal waist circumference. Methods: This study was a non-experimental analytic observational study with cross-sectional approach conducted in Jebres in September-October 2014. The subjects were 40 men selected using simple random sampling technique. The data obtained from physical measurements and questionnaire-led interviews were analyzed using multivariate logistic regression test to control confounding factors. Results: Twelve out of 15 men with large waist circumference (> 90 cm) experienced andropause and 16 out of 25 men with normal waist circumference (? 90 cm) did not experience andropause. On the other hand, 5 out of 10 men aged < 50 years experienced andropause and 23 out of 30 men aged ? 50 years did not experience andropause. Conclusion: Men with large waist circumference have risk experiencing andropause 3.06 times higher than men with normal waist circumference, although in this study the result is not significant (OR = 3.06; CI = 95% 0.59 to 15.95; p = 0.184 ). Abstract

Background: In children, the increasing of cranial capacity and the maturation of working memory capacity happen. The increasing of cranial capacity is driven by the growth of brain. The growth and the maturation of brain will influence someones intelligence. The working memory capacity is one of the most important domains of intelligence. This research aimed to determine the correlation between the estimation of cranial capacity and the working memory capacity. Methods: This research was a descriptive analytical study which used cross sectional approach. The subjects of this study were 5th grade students at Kristen Manahan Elementary School. This research was done in 36 males of students by measuring cranial capacity and doing Reading Span Test for measuring working memory capacity. The collected data were analyzed with the Saphiro Wilk Normality Test and the Pearson Correlation. Results: The result of analysis showed r = 0.367 and p = 0.027, which meant that there was weak-powered correlation between the estimation of cranial capacity and the working memory capacity in the elementary students in Surakarta and this correlation was statistically significant. Conclusions: From this research, it is concluded that there is statistically significant correlation between the estimation of cranial capacity and the working memory capacity in the elementary students in Surakarta (r = 0.367). Keywords: Estimation of cranial capacity; working memory capacity; elementary student
