Abstract

The present study aims to determine the impact of complete feed containing protected soybean meal on the production of male thin-tailed lamb carcasses. A total of 15 (23.43 ± 1.40 kg) 12 months old male Thin-Tailed Sheep (TTL) were given 3 treatments and 5 replicates in a completely randomized design. The ration consisted of complete feed and formaldehyde-protected soybean groat (PSG). The treatments includes 100% complete feed (F1), 90% complete feed + PSG 10% (F2), and 80% complete feed + PSG 20% (F3). Data were analyzed using ANOVA and differences between treatments were further tested using Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test. The results indicated that the use of PSG containing complete feed did not improve the characteristics of carcasses (weight and percentage of carcass components, half-cuts and commercial cuts of carcass, fleshing index and meat bone ratio) of male TTLs (P>0.05). However, differences were found  in the rib eye muscle area. The use of complete feed containing 20% PSM (F3) resulted the highest rib eye muscle area figure compared to those of F2 and F1 (35.17 vs 27.00 and 26.33; P<0.05). Our study revealed that the use of complete feed containing 20% protected soybean groat resulted in higher rib eye muscle area by 25.14% compared to those containing no protected soybean groat. However, no differences in carcass characteristics were found in view of weight and percentage of carcass components, half cut and commercial carcass, fleshing index and meat bone ration in thin-tailed sheep.

Abstract

Ruminant husbandry is a fundamental economic aspect of Boyolali Regency. Animal health management is an important factor to guarantee the husbandry meets optimal production. The community service activity is aimed to contribute in controlling animal diseases at Boyolali. The service is carried out door to door accompanied by discussions with breeders and direct treatment of sick livestock. Interaction with breeders aims to provide practical education on the role of health in achieving efficient livestock production. The treatment provided included worming, vitamins, anti-ectoparasites, and pregnancy checks. The injection treatment was performed by veterinarians on 50 beef cattle, goats and sheep and proved to be effective in its implementation. This activity has been successful and all livestock can be diagnosed and treated according to the correct treatment mechanism.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the performance of swamp buffalo reproduction and production at the small-scale holder farmer in Sragen Regency, Central Java, Indonesia, from June to September 2021. The method used in this research was a survey with a census (complete) sample determination. Data collection applies to interviews, observations and literature studies. Research parameters used in reproductive performance were calving interval (CI), service per conception (S/C), age of the first estrus, age of first birth and postpartum estrus. In contrast, production performance parameters were chest circumference, body length and estimated body weight. The result of research on reproductive performance showed that the average CI were 13.2±0.9 months, S/C 1.25±0.4 time, age of first estrus 2.7±0.6 years, age of first birth 3.7±0.5 years and postpartum estrus were 30–60 days. The result of research on the production of male buffalo body length was 205.3±1.7, and the body length of female buffalo was 127.2±4.3 cm, whereas the chest circumference of female was 205.3±1.7 cm and the chest circumference of the male was 189±2.8 cm. The estimated body weight of females and males were 516.7±7.7 kg and 445.2±11.9 kg. Based on the result of the research, the characteristics of swamp buffalo reproduction and production in Sragen Regency were classified as good.

Abstract

Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat di kelompok ternak Sumber Makmur dilakukan pada tanggal 28 dan 29 Mei 2022. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan peternak dalam mencukupi kebutuhan pakan ternak melalui pembuatan fermentasi complete feed serta Focus Group Discussion manajemen pakan dan reproduksi. Kegiatan diawali dan diakhiri dengan pengisian kuesioner oleh responden yang berisi keadaan umum dan pengetahuan terkait manajemen pakan dan reproduksi pada ternak. Responden adalah 36 peternak sapi di Mertan, Sukoharjo. Hasil kuesioner menunjukkan bahwa 97% ternak berusia 15-64 tahun, 35 peternak laki-laki dan 1 orang perempuan, 17% pendidikan SD, 22% SMP, 42 SMA/SMK, 8% Sarjana, dan 11% tidak bersekolah. Pengalaman beternak responden bervariasi dari 6 bulan hingga 25 tahun dengan mayoritas 69% selama 1-5 tahun dan rata-rata jumlah ternak yang dimiliki sebanyak 7 ekor. Pekerjaan responden sebagai petani, pedagang, buruh, wiraswasta, pelajar, dan perangkat desa. Berdasarkan survei sebelum dan sesudah Focus Group Discussion diperoleh peningkatan pengetahuan sebesar 56%. Kesimpulan dari kegiatan ini adalah pengetahuan peternak telah meningkat dan peternak mampu praktik membuat fermentasi complete feed dengan bahan lokal yang ada di sekitar. Peternak diharapkan mampu mengaplikasikan pengetahuan dan teknologi yang diperoleh sehingga ternak dapat berproduksi secara optimal.

Abstract

Abstrak Desa Kebakalan, Kecamata Karanggayam, Kabupaten Kebumen, Provinsi Jawa Tengah menjadi salah satu desa yang banyak memiliki peternak sapi. Permasalahan yang dihadapi masyarakat peternak adalah minimnya pemahaman dan keterampilan peternak dalam pengelolaan limbah kotoran sapi. Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah mewujudkan Desa Kebakalan Kabupaten Kebumen sebagai desa mandiri bioenergi biogas sehingga kesejahteraan masyarakatnya meningkat. Kegiatan dilaksanakan di Desa Kebakalan Kabupaten Kebumen dengan peserta adalah peternak sapi yang berjumlah 78 peternak. Kegiatan dilaksanakan selama enam bulan yaitu bulan Januari sampai Juni 2024. Pelaksanaan dilakukan dengan menggunakan tiga tahapan yiatu persiapan, pelaksaan, dan evaluasi. Pelaksanaan memfokuskan kepada penggunaan IPTEK dalam melakukan pengelolaan limbah kotoran sapi.  Selain itu dilakukan pula (1) instruksional dan dialog melalui kegiatan program penyuluhan menggunakan teknik FGD (Focus Group Disscusion) disertai dengan evaluasi kemajuan tingkat pengetahuan dan pemahaman materi, (2) pelatihan dengan peragaan pembuatan digester biogas skala rumah tangga dan produksi biogas, (3) metode percontohan pembuatan dan penerapan penggunaan biogas skala rumah tangga, (4) monitoring dan evaluasi berkelanjutan. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa peternak memiliki pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam pemanfaatan dan pengelolaan limbah kotoran sapi menjadi energi biogas. Kata kunci: absorber; biodigester; biogas; limbah kotoran sapi Abstract The village of Kebakalan, located in the Karanggayam Subdistrict, Kebumen Regency, Central Java Province, is one of the villages with a significant number of cattle farmers .The issue faced by livestock farmers is their limited understanding and skills in managing cow manure waste. The purpose of this community service program is to make Kebakalan Village in Kebumen Regency an independent bioenergy biogas village, thereby improving the welfare of its community. The program is carried out in Kebakalan Village, Kebumen Regency, with participants being cattle farmers there are 78 cattle farmers. The activities will be conducted over six months, from January to June 2024. The implementation includes three stages: preparation, execution, and evaluation. The focus is on utilizing science and technology in managing cow manure waste. In addition, the program includes (1) instructional and dialog sessions through extension programs using Focus Group Discussion (FGD) techniques, accompanied by evaluations of participants' knowledge and understanding progress, (2) training on household-scale biogas digester construction and biogas production, (3) demonstration of household-scale biogas production and application, and (4) ongoing monitoring and evaluation. The results indicate that farmers gained knowledge and skills in utilizing and managing cow manure waste into biogas energy. Keywords: absorber; biodigester; biogas; cow manure waste

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui cemaran residu antibiotik, Salmonella, formalin, serta mengetahui nilai pH pada daging ayam broiler di pasar tradisional dan pasar swalayan Kota Surakarta. Sampel yang digunakan sebanyak 30 sampel daging ayam broiler bagian paha yang diperoleh dari pasar tradisional dan pasar swalayan di Kota Surakarta. Pengujian sampel dilakukan di Laboratorium Produksi Ternak, Fakultas Peternakan, Universitas Sebelas Maret dan di Balai Besar Veteriner (BBVet) Wates Yogyakarta. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat residu antibiotik golongan penisilin pada 13,33% sampel yang berasal dari swalayan. Selain itu, residu antibiotik golongan makrolida juga ditemukan pada 26,67% sampel dari pasar tradisional dan 66,67% sampel dari pasar swalayan. Cemaran Salmonella ditemukan pada 6,67% sampel dari pasar tradisional. Hasil uji formalin menunjukkan bahwa semua sampel daging negatif mengandung formalin. Nilai pH sampel daging pada penelitian ini adalah normal, yaitu 5,73±0,46 untuk sampel dari pasar tradisional dan 5,73±0,59 untuk sampel dari swalayan. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat residu antibiotik golongan penisilin pada daging ayam broiler dari pasar swalayan, dan golongan makrolida pada daging ayam broiler di kedua jenis pasar. Cemaran Salmonella ditemukan pada daging ayam broiler di pasar tradisional, namun tidak ditemukan adanya cemaran formalin. Nilai pH daging ayam broiler di pasar tradisional dan swalayan di Kota Surakarta tergolong normal.

Abstract

Empowerment of Jaya Farmer Group and MBS Farmers in Purworejo Sragen Through Complete Feed Preparation Training for the Village Development Program. The Village Empowerment Program implemented in Purworejo Village, Gemolong District, Sragen Regency, was motivated by the community's interest in raising dairy goats. The dairy goats that are quite developed include PE, Jawa Randu, and Sapera dairy goats. This Village Development Program is funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The development of dairy goats starts from the smallest unit, namely farmers, by forming a Livestock Farmers Group association. The Village Empowerment Program invites two Livestock Farmers Groups in Purworejo Village to become partners. The Livestock Farmers Groups targeted in the village empowerment activities are the Jaya Livestock Farmers Group and the Muda Bakti Sejahtera Livestock Farmers Group. The problems that arise in livestock farmers are related to milk production that is not yet optimal. Low milk production can be caused by the provision of feed that is not Accordance with the nutritional needs of livestock. The nutritional needs of livestock in each physiological phase are different. The solution provided through this Village Empowerment Program is the manufacture of complete feed for dairy goats. Complete feed is a fairly simple technology in livestock feed management. The ration for making complete feed is adjusted by looking at the availability of feed ingredients around Purworejo Village, namely cassava, bran, corn cobs, CGF, copra cake, and minerals. The Village Empowerment Program begins with socialization followed by workshops and mentoring. The conclusion after a series of programs have been completed is that farmers can understand the use and process of making complete feed technology which is assessed through the tests provided and their activeness during the mentoring session.

Abstract

Agricultural and livestock businesses need development towards a better direction. One of the potentials for developing livestock and agricultural businesses is found in Kudi Village, Wonogiri Regency. This area faces challenges such as extreme poverty, susceptibility to landslides, and drought due to its topographical conditions. This program focuses on empowering two main partners, namely Gapoktan Kudi Makmur in the agricultural sector. Situation analysis identified a number of priority issues, including: the cashew processing production process, which is still manual, unhygienic, and high-risk; limited market access and the absence of product standardization. The implementation of community service activities adopts a sequential five-stage methodology, namely socialization, training, technology application, mentoring and evaluation, as well as institutional strengthening to ensure sustainability. Monitoring and evaluation results show significant progress. Notable achievements that have been realized include improvements in the quality and quantity of cashews, the establishment of the 'Kudiro' product brand, increased production capacity, and the diversification of processed cashew products. The conclusion of this community service activity is that an integrative approach combining technology transfer, human resource capacity building, and institutional strengthening has proven effective in creating a sustainable impact. This community service program provides solutions to technical problems at the production level and builds a cashew agricultural economic ecosystem.

Abstract

Pengelolaan sampah organik rumah tangga masih menjadi salah satu permasalahan lingkungan yang perlu mendapat perhatian, termasuk di Desa Sempulur, Kecamatan Karanggede, Kabupaten Boyolali. Salah satu alternatif pemanfaatan sampah organik adalah melalui budidaya maggot Black Soldier Fly (BSF), yang mampu memanfaatkan bahan organik sebagai sumber pakan sekaligus menghasilkan biomassa yang berpotensi dimanfaatkan sebagai pakan ternak maupun ikan. Kegiatan ini bertujuan memberikan pengetahuan dan keterampilan kepada masyarakat mengenai pemanfaatan sampah organik rumah tangga melalui budidaya maggot BSF. Kegiatan dilaksanakan pada 18 Agustus 2026 di Balai Desa Sempulur dengan melibatkan anggota PKK melalui metode sosialisasi, demonstrasi, dan praktik langsung. Tahapan kegiatan meliputi pengenalan maggot BSF, alat dan bahan, pemilahan serta persiapan sampah organik, penyiapan media pakan, praktik budidaya, dan penjelasan pemanenan serta pemanfaatan maggot. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa peserta memperoleh pengetahuan dan pengalaman mengenai tahapan dasar budidaya serta pemanfaatan sampah organik sebagai media pakan. Kegiatan juga menunjukkan ketertarikan peserta terhadap budidaya maggot sebagai alternatif pengelolaan sampah. Budidaya maggot BSF berpotensi memberikan manfaat lingkungan dan ekonomi melalui pemanfaatan sampah organik serta hasil budidaya. Keberlanjutan penerapan budidaya oleh masyarakat diperlukan agar manfaat tersebut dapat dikembangkan secara optimal.
