Abstract

The will of the first Mover, who is none other than God, is inextricably linked to the existence of people and everything else in the cosmos. God is the reason why everything has a purpose, including humans. Aristotle, a philosopher, held this philosophical idea to be true. The Javanese, on the other hand, have their own ideas on how to worship God as the architect of the universe. This approach, known as satataning panembah, includes sembah catur or four different forms of worship. Serat Wedhatama by KGPAA Mangkunegara IV contains sembah catur. The goal of qualitative descriptive research is to identify the connections between the two, notably Aristotle's conception of God and the idea of satataning panembah, through gathering evidence through literary study. The study's findings indicate a connection between God and the four forms of worship practiced by the Javanese people it s sembah raga, sembah cipta, sembah jiwa, and sembah rasa according to Aristotle. The connection is that there is a means to reach human unity with God, which is the height of human perfection.

Abstract

The coffee manten tradition is a form of local wisdom full of philosophical values, which is still preserved by the people of Modangan Village, Blitar Regency. The main problem in this research stems from the importance of exploring people's meaning of these traditions, more than just a physical inventory of ritual plants. The aim of this research is to describe the community's perspective on the coffee manten tradition and analyze the cultural representation of the accompanying ethnobotanical elements. Using descriptive qualitative methods, data collection was carried out comprehensively through triangulation techniques in the form of field observations, in-depth interviews and documentation studies. The results of the research show that the coffee manten tradition is seen not just as an agricultural ritual for welcoming the harvest, but as a social construction and cultural identity that binds society. The use of various types of plants as ubarampe is not only understood functionally, but is a symbolic medium that represents hope, unity and blessings for the people of Modangan Village. As a novelty, this study confirms that an ethnobotanical approach is essential not only for recording plant taxonomy, but is crucial for uncovering spiritual relationships and the construction of people's cultural identity in interpreting plants in their environment.

Abstract

The sacredness of Gunung Kawi Malang is deeply associated with the figures of Kiai Zakaria II (Eyang Djoego) and R.M Iman Sujana. This study examines the phenomenology of sacredness at Gunung Kawi Malang, focusing on its conceptual underpinnings and implications. Central to this inquiry is the Serat Iman Sujana manuscript, discovered at Gunung Kawi Malang, which provides key insights into the sacredness attributed to the site. Employing a phenomenological approach, this research interprets the layers of sacred meaning embedded in Gunung Kawi Malang, particularly in light of its historical role as a center for mystical practices, including pesugihan rituals. Additionally, a literature study of the Serat Iman Sujana manuscript was conducted to deepen the analysis. Findings reveal that the sacralization of Gunung Kawi Malang is significantly influenced by Kiai Zakaria II (Eyang Djoego) and R.M Iman Sujana. The connection between these figures and the Serat Iman Sujana manuscript is reflected in the presence of Raden Iman Sujana as a key character, whereas Kiai Zakaria II is notably absent from the text. The manuscript portrays Iman Sujana as a waliyullah (Allah representative), tracing his lineage back to the apostle of Allah. If, as the Kekancingan letter suggests, Iman Sujana was the great-grandfather of Hamengkubuwana I, then the sanctification of Gunung Kawi Malang through these figures aligns with the broader tradition of Islamic scholarship. Additionally, oral traditions depict Iman Sujana not only as a spiritual scholar but also as a soldier and mentor to Pangeran Diponegoro, further reinforcing his multifaceted role in both religious and historical narratives.

Abstract

This study is motivated by concerns regarding the erosion of character among the younger generation, resulting from the disconnect between formal education and local wisdom in the era of globalization. To address this issue, the study aims to identify and analyze the integration of ethnopedagogical elements into the narrative of *Serat Centhini*, thereby contributing to the theoretical understanding of culture-based learning models. Employing a qualitative method with a textual analysis approach and an ethnopedagogical theoretical framework, the text is examined in depth to explore its narrative structure and character dialogues. The findings reveal that *Serat Centhini* effectively integrates moral teachings, ethics, and local knowledge, manifesting them into eight traditional educational values: family, responsibility, spirituality/religion, social consciousness, discipline, resilience, honesty, and fighting spirit. Consequently, this study underscores the importance of reconstructing traditional literary works as a medium for character education that is both relevant and contextual for the current generation.

Abstract

This study is grounded in the view that language in literary works functions not merely as a means of communication but as a medium of representation that constructs and gives meaning to experiences of love, which are often expressed indirectly through satire. The study aims to describe the forms of satirical language as representations of love and to explain their relevance to Javanese language learning at vocational high schools (SMK). The research employs a qualitative descriptive method, with data sources consisting of textual excerpts containing sarcasm, cynicism, irony, satire, antiphrasis, and innuendo. Data were collected through close reading and note-taking techniques, analyzed in stages of data condensation, categorization, tabulation, interpretation, and inference, and validated using semantic validity and intra- and interrater reliability. The findings reveal that satirical language in the novel represents five dimensions of love: brotherly love, maternal love, erotic love, self-love, and love of God, which function expressively, reflectively, critically, relationally, and aesthetically in constructing conflict and deepening characterization. The implications of this study enrich Javanese literary stylistics and can be integrated into Javanese language instruction at SMK to enhance students’ interpretative competence, sensitivity to implicit meaning, and character education grounded in cultural and spiritual values.
